The blind musician Scruggs heard was Mack Woolbright, not Smith Hammett. (Hammett was another early three-finger player in North Carolina whose playing Scruggs knew, though.) Somewhat amazingly, we actually have a recording of Woolbright playing "Home Sweet Home", in the breaks between the verses of this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGi5k3t7m8-WhtU.
