I’ve always used an app on my iPhone to level my speakers. I recently just bought a radio shack meter on eBay and I had to bring down all speaker levels -3db with the radio shack meter to hit 75db. So the physical meter and app on my phone are 3db apart

@@Squishmallows24 yes. The mic on the phone is calibrated for SPL leveling. That’s my understanding. I also use the AudioTools app for quick settings on the fly but know that I need to outfit my phone with a calibrated mic in order to be accurate.

had the digital version of that for years and not used it since selling the onkyo 875 , looks like ill be using it again since i got the denon 3800, but i need to change the battery and watch this as ive forgot how to use it lol

It’s a great tool to have. Remember to note the updated speaker trims. If you are using the MultEQ app then you will need to update the trims in the MultEQ app and resend the data back to the Denon.

Thank you for the video, I really enjoy it. I have a question about level matching, every time I do the speaker level matching, I always found 1 particular speaker, the Right front Height speaker, to be very, very low level compared to other and I don't know why. All my 4 Height speakers are new that I bought a few weeks ago, they are Arendal speakers. Do you have any ideas why ? After level matching, I always set the Setup Lock to ON.

Thanks for the feedback. I am assuming you have checked the polarity of the speaker wires on both the amp and speaker side. If the wiring is correct then I would say switch the speaker connection on the amp side. Meaning connect this one to one of the other channels do not have the issue. I had the issue once and found out that I had a bad XLR cable between my processor and the amp.

I have a Onkyo receiver it goes from 0 to 100 at volume so what should i have it to do measurements ?

Hi. Thanks for the question. You would increase the volume till the SPL meter reaches 75 db. On a scale of 0-100 your volume control should be at or around 75.

For anyone reading this do not follow these instructions. Why? Because when you use your receivers internal test tones to level match speakers it bypasses whatever room correction software your receiver has. So then when you go to watch a movie and the room correction is active the speakers levels will be different. To level match speakers and have the room correction doing it’s thing you need to just play pink noise that’s meant for calibration such as the ones on Dolby demo discs.

Thanks. You are correct. I posted a subsequent video correcting that specific piece. You absolutely must make the updates to the trim levels within the Audyssey app or any other room correction software and resend the data back to the processor or receiver. I agree. @@magnoliamo While I do appreciate you making another video explaining further things none of those address the mistake of this video. In your follow up you talk about using the multi eq editor app to make the changes. For those of us who don’t want to spend an additional 20$ to make changes the method that I referenced was using pink noise that is -30dbFS aka 75db and setting your receiver to zero or reference and then pull out your spl meter. You can download REW and that has a built in pink noise generator. All you need is to hdmi it into your receiver. The multi eq app is nice but it’s not the only way to accomplish level matching. Ideally you should probably just take this video down since 80% of it is not correct.

What you fail to mention is that if someone uses Audyssey or any other built in software, updating speaker trims is being done within the built in software and therefor there is no problem. It is only when you use Audyssey MultEQ app to run Audyssey where you cannot just change the speaker Trims in the receiver. So your comment is not valid if you are not talking about the multeq app. Also, please point out the 80% incorrect information in this video. I’d like to learn from this. Thank you.
