Home to Home - from Germany to the Netherlands by Kayak

What are ways to get from home to home? Hiking is way too slow and normal. By bike has been done so many times so that's also boring. This led Nele to the idea of kayaking from Melle, Germany to Zwolle, the Netherlands. With that, the seed of an adventure was planted, and together with Anna, they started planning the adventure.
At the end of April 2022 Nele and Anna headed off from Melle, Germany with the kayaks from Kabootje.nl. The challenge is to make the estimated 205 km journey in less than a week and many obstacles ahead.

Sehr schönes Video. Bin vor ca. einem Jahr im Niederlande-Urlaub mit einem Kayak gefahren und ich fand es so schön idyllisch und beruhigend. Eures Video konnte genau diese Ruhe einfangen, danke schön :)

(Sorry I forgot so much German that I can't hold a conversation, so replying in English) That looked like a great little adventure, though a shame you lost your GoPro. Hope you as much fun as you made it seem in the video and (late) congratulations for finishing a 200 km paddle! I actually did a similar distance when I participated in the 25th Friesche Elfstedentoch te water (Frisian Eleven City Tour via water) 2 years ago (the last time they allowed kayakers). If you enjoyed kayaking I can definitely recommend the many connected waters in Frisian. I understand that you rented the equipment from a small company, so I wonder how much extra equipment we saw like life jackets and whistles, and maybe didn't see (maybe sponges and water pumps) you chose yourself and how much was recommended by the company. Many of those things are very important for safety. I also noticed the weird situation for some canals between the German and Dutch border. I once had the idea to cross the border between Schöninghsdorf and Zwartemeer, using the Schöninghsdorf-Hoogeveen-Kanal / Van Echtenskanaal but at the border it just.. stops for a bit. Though my father and I did kayak the Vechte from Emlichheim all the way to Zwolly last year. Also, and this is really more for people just reading this, I noticed the little cart uses 2 rods to slide into the sit-on-top's scupper holes. Be careful with that. Sit-on-tops are hollow inside and the scupper holes are the weakest part. So by using that to hold the cart under your kayak (especially when loaded) you put a lot of stress there and it could cause a fracture or tear. It only takes a small one to take on water, so you could be paddling for half an hour or more before you notice anything and if you can't disembark the kayak could sink! Regardless, it was fun to watch, give thanks to your friends chasing you all along the route to film the by stander's perspective and do you plan to make another trip like that? Or perhaps a different 'Why Not Adventure'?
