I'm impressed by the menu at your ninang and ninong's. Aglia oglio is a favorite of my family, which we make with ground red pepper to give it some kick. The food looked incredible and that cake was definitely the type to put a big smile on Therine's face. Probably bigger than the smile you got from the extra latik.😂

"Sipat" combines the meanings of know-it-all, arrogant, defiant, and "sigà". I can't think of a Tagalog equivalent. In English it would be something like wiseass or smartypants.

9:46 _Alocasia macrorrhizos,_ the giant taro, is called "biga" in Bisaya and Bikol (also "gaway" or "talian"). It's used for dishes like pinangat, laing, and binagol. I don't know the Tagalog word for it, but it's one of the most ancient Austronesian crops, reaching Hawaii (where it's called "pia") and Madagascar (where it is called "via") during the ancient Austronesian sea voyages.

Biga can be a funny word haha
@AngryKittensСағат бұрын
@@BecomingFilipino Yep! Fun fact: the funny meaning of the word that you're refering to originates from the fact that the leaves of the giant taro are _itchy._ Thus when used as an adjective it literally means "to be itchy, like after eating giant taro." From there, it acquired its modern meaning.

U.S tariff effected against Canada Feb. 4. Buy Canadian only. Sorry for including politics.
@franky5028Сағат бұрын
Americans are the dumbest in the world: 1- they don't realise tarrifs are paid by the consumers, not by the exporter. If china export a good worth 2000$ in the us, with 50% tariffs that stuff would cost 3000$, but the extra 1000$ will be paid by the american consumer not by china. 2- they don't realise, anything they buy at walmart or costco all day long from china, vietnam, india, pakistan, bengladesh or indonesia is IMPOSSIBLE to make in the usa at the same price because of labour cost! A pair of sneakers at 35$ is impossible to make in the us, an iphone 16 at 800$ is impossible to manufacture in the us!

As what I know the word "sipat" in English is "look", "observe", "examine". In tagalog sentence: "Sipatin mo nga kung yan ba talaga ang nakikita ko?"
@BecomingFilipino2 сағат бұрын
I've heard it being used in Bisaya for someone when they act "badass"
@FloresMorris2 сағат бұрын
In Tagalog, Sipat means visual inspection
@AngryKittensСағат бұрын
In Bisaya it means someone who is arrogant, does not listen, talks back, is generally unpleasant, and is a bully. It applies most commonly to kids (usually during a scolding). But it is also used jokingly for grown-ups. It also means to glare at someone. Which is probably its original meaning. Imagine a kid who glares at you. That's "sipat" in Bisaya.
@AngryKittensСағат бұрын
"Sigà", I think, is the closest word in Tagalog. But apply that to a kid, instead. Kinda like "playground bully".
