Approach a lawyer in SA Nons, they need you to be divorced in SA also for home affairs to process it on their system. Your Lawyer may be able to use your Finnish decree to apply for a decree in SA so that you don’t have to attend in court.

Mama I totally understand your frustration. Divorce things are very draining .Especially if you and that person are looooonnngggg separated. I hope all get sorted my love. Phephisa all will be well ❤

Thats why I opted and will still opt for double barrel, so that my surname will always feature. Nonetheless see if you can apply for SA divorce decree ( high court in Pta ) . Submit both old and new ID and then submit in person in Pretoria. These branches will hardly help you.
@iamsamajobe_9 ай бұрын
I think you need to get a South African divorce papers and it is not that difficult they give you papers to fill in and submit them to the small court. Tricky part is that you need your partner to sign those papers and it is easy uma kungekho amafa ningenazingane futhi. I am talking from experience, within 2 weeks everything was finalized!

My dear I understand your frustration. I had changes on my name. Dha had to give me confirmation letter, I'm telling you it was I had committed a new crime that they never heard of. Or the person giving that was suddenly absent. And I got warnings from the generation we are healing from that I'll regret what I did. This and that she doesn't even know me. I talking about Home affairs in SA 😮

The issue with your situation is DOMICILE they wont know at home affairs because they dont really know technicalities of legal aspect of divorce . Apply for divorce in court then produce the decree from Finland then you will be issued with South African decree

Unfortunately that is how it works with divorce in South Africa. You need to go to court in South Africa and they will handle the divorce for you, but putting it in the system can take years for me it took years until I had to pay someone to assist. Home affairs kusebenza imali khuluma no my brothers uyabazi bakwazi konke lokho but imali phambili.
@briandejesustofa37084 ай бұрын
That’s strange. In Cape Town it takes just about weeks for it to be on the system.

I got divorced in the USA it took years starting with legal separation. The process took years, I worked with a lawyer and we had the papers rejected multiple times because the courts kept changing the paperwork regularly and then the judge wouldn't sign off on it due to not asking for child support. Then the judge left adult courts to juvenile and we had to meet with her there. Then my lawyer became a judge and the new lawyer was rude to me. The final court date, I missed due to being stuck in rush hour traffic but the rude lawyer stood in for me. What a mess. The marriage took about 30 min total due to being Nevada USA. Then there is all the paperwork I still need to submit due to name changes when I try to get career licenses etc.
@zuzuh57559 ай бұрын
It's sound complicated.Someone told me that in some countries in Europe,you can get married but still remain with your surname. They have a choice of changing surnames to hubby's or not. I think having that choice,I wld never change my surname. Did you get married in SA and went to register marriage in SA. I think that causes more problems.
@TheMiaOrange9 ай бұрын
@@zuzuh5755 we actually traded names which was confusing. I got married in the state of Nevada USA and divorced in Oregon USA.

Omg,.........I am done with dealing with South Africa. Even now,I still have my South African passport. I originally got my divorce in Finland. I have the papers to prove it. But when I asked my aunt in South Africa to go to Home Affairs to get my divorce also legalised as I am South African,but not living in South Africa,........my goodness,......it was like hell, for my aunt! They first told her that she is standing in the incorrect line. When she eventually went to the correct line,.......again they told her something else,that was needed with my paperwork!!!!!!! Omg,............I am glad that I will NEVER LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA AGAIN!!! NEVER! GOVERNMENT IS SO MESSED UP!!!

Rather get a lawyer that you will pay in SA rather than going there use that money to pay the lawyer. He/she will send you and your ex husband papers to sign and send back. It will be easier if you both agree and not contest anything
