Nitric acid is near impossible to get in UK or Europe. Its also really dangerous best avoided anyway.

Very cool video. I plan on doing this soon. The only thing that seemed a but aggressive was the sandblasting. I know the gun is made up of many stamped parts but it's hard to watch all the same. Perhaps fine glass bead blasting or using soda would be better. It has me wondering if a standard metal etch prep solution might be a good option as well. Anything but sandblasting machined parts that slide on one another...

Didn't affect anything. Those tolerances are only in the body anyway and wouldn't screw with accuracy or functionality. If you are sandblasting parts which are designed to work together under heat like a piston and cylinder, then yes, never ever sandblast or do anything to the surface. But on an AK? On an airsoft AK? Sandblast the shit out of it... lol 😆😂

From your experience, what's the difference between Zn & Mn phosphate solutions for parkerizing?

I haven't tried it with the Manganese formula but I guess it will be mainly colour. I doubt you get anything else out of it. 😄 Also if you can actually buy the "real" solutions from Brownells for example then don't waste your time with the homebrew stuff.

I have a few questions since I recently stripped the finish off my ak and I just cerakoted it and I'm not liking it. Did you plug the barrel with a wooden dowel or rubber plug And should I worry about the threads and trunion being parkerized because my rifle is still fully assembled from the factory

This was an airsoft AKM with a fake barrel. If you look closely, you can see two holes in the barrel right in front of the rear sight block. No need to plug it. For real firearms you need to plug the barrel! Otherwise you screw it up. In case of threads you will find different opinions. Some say it's not good to parkerize the threads and some say it won't harm it. I'm leaning towards you can't harm the threads with the park job. Maybe pay attention when sandblasting. I would rather not sandblast the threads. It's not that they won't work anymore but they will get "crunchy". Real Russian AKs are just dipped and not taken huge care of in this process. You will find spots not even painted like under the lower handguard retainer on the barrel and on the muzzle threads too. I wouldn't worry to much and just go at it. lol 😄
