Wow. I just brought a G40 and was a bit confused about how to brew. Your video has made it so much easier to understand and I know I will not have any problems now. Grainfather should add your video to their website as their videos are bad. Thank you.

I don't know much about UK specs but wire diameter for a given amp/volt load are easy to find. One thing to remember, It's hard to oversize a wire but easy to under size, same with breakers.(way too much to go into depth here) Make sure your upstream wiring can take what you wire downstream. I'm not certified here in the US but I do industrial air compressors up to 600 HP and I cannot tell you how many times I have had to come behind certified electricians and correct their errors. REALLY enjoy your videos by the way. Hoping to get a G40 after the first of the year and watching you keeps me dreaming.

Great vid mate, I picked up some great ideas too. I like the old GF controller to read the wort temp - mine has been gathering dust in the shed for a few years now waiting for a purpose.

8:38 I have a winch in my garage to lift the grain basket. Once you go above the usual 23 litre batches it gets tough to lift the grain.

I think it would be good to have a top mesh lid for the mash pipe actually. The sparging will suffer without it, at least for me.

Expensive, in New Zealand I paid $1483 which is 697 British pounds. It took me 4 brews to dial in the absorption and boil off settings, the boil off setting is way higher than the G30. I run my G40 at 15 Amps and have set the boil off to 4 litres per hour, I also drop the heating percentage depending on the ambient temperature, as low as 85% during summer.

Hello Griffo, this is the first time I see one of your videos. Really well done, congratulations! Everything is clearly understandable and reproducable, and I really like your style a lot. I just have my new G40 sitting behind me, waiting for the first brew this weekend, putting my G30 into the past. But one thing I miss about the G40 is the pluggable temperature sensor that fit so nicely into the wortometer. And I just see in this video at around 16:43 that you use it with your G40 still, and that you seem to have a nice temperature sensor plugged in. Could you be so kind as to tell me what temperature sensor and/or thermometer you are using for this? I am really curious. Cheers from Berlin, Roman. PS: Ok, never mind - you explain it just a few seconds after I paused for wrinting this question. Thanks a lot!

Cheers for the links Griffo, G40 certainly looks like a nice bit of kit, I did find it odd the lack of any kind of tap and the whirlpool like recirc is a bit different but it all seems to work well for you and the process looks quite simple and streamlined. Theres certainly a lot of differences compared to the S40, I was under the impression at first it was a stripped back version of the same base unit but thats not really the case at all from what I can see!
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
No worries mate, thank you too! Yeah I watched yours last night (on the big screen!) lol. I was surprised at the differences as well to be fair!

Good explanation of the new kit, a couple of things. 1) Sight glass text should be white, my Brew Monk has the same issue, you can't see the text is if the wort is dark. 2) Do you not put the pump on to recirculate the water when heating the strike water?
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, yes you're right it should be white! And I'll use the pump to circulate next time, I quite like the fountain it makes :) Cheers

Well - I thought that "grain-basket" was just a different term for "malt-pipe" - and the small pipe missing in the G40 is some kind of 'overflow-thingy' ... Gonna try the orange idea on my Pale Ale - nice video, thanks!

Thanks Robert! The orange really adds another dimension to pales 👌🍺

Great video! I particularly like that you did a full size batch. Reviews I've seen for other big systems usually only make small batches in it anyway so you can't see how well the big batch actually works, which is the reason you would get that machine in the first place. So the experience with a big batch is that you can't get a really wild boil going (which might not be necessary, granted) and you are probably not going to get the full 40L out of it. The Grainfather site now says a full batch is only 38L, not 40L but I guess 38L is good enough. That is pretty much two full kegs worth of beer.
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the information is a little contradicting from the description and the spec sheet BUT I recon I can get the 40L haha I have some work to dial it in but i'll get there! Cheers

Hi! Thanks for the great vid! Since you overshot your numbers, likely on account of the boil off, you might want to consider adding some extra water towards the end of the boil?
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, it's a new brewing profile so I should be able to dial it in better over the next few batches (of different sizes). Cheers

Thanks for the unboxing and brewday vids. I am in the market for an All-in-one, and this unit, while a bit over budget, is calling my name. Do you think with a heavy hop schedule (NEIPA, DIPA, etc) the bottom filter will keep from clogging the pump? It seems to me like enough trub snuck by it to cause some concern, but it is difficult to tell. And with the pump integrated into the bottom, if it needed cleaning, is it at all accessible? Do you have an idea what sort of threading it would be if you replaced that nut with a valve? Thanks, mate!
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm confident that the pump and filter can handle a big hop schedule, I haven't taken a look inside the machine yet and the thread for the valve is the same as the G70 so I'm told. Strass Brewing mentioned it's a non standard pitch on the thread...

To bad it has no user removeble heating elements like BrewtoolsB40 and Speidel. Thats 's for me the biggest selling point. It must be modular. And at 1300 euro this G40 is not worth his money. But i hope you like it.
@HomebrewGriffo3 жыл бұрын
Each to their own of course but I don't see why i'd benefit from removing heating elements that don't need cleaning... Should be covered by the 3 year warranty if any issues I guess.
