CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You weren't the only ones holding your breath that no hiccups happened to prevent this day or threaten Joe's retirement. I am so happy that all your dreams are coming true. As far as Joe not looking forward to the drive, I would GLADLY DO THE DRIVE!! I am one of those that loves adventure and have made numerous trips cross-country as a truck driver and "just because". Driving the old highways, seeing all the beautiful country we all have been blessed with, meeting wonderful people in those small out-of-the-way small towns, and especially eating at the most incredibly delicious Mom and Pop restaurants are the greatest benefits of driving. I would gladly do the driving and you all could just fly there. LOL!! Oh to be young again so I could do it! LOL!! You all are fulfilling the dream I have had for several years so I am looking forward to lots of videos from you. God Bless and protect you all for safe travels.

So proud of you all. The ceremony and appreciation by your service is what it's all about. The 20 years was worth it. As a veteran (Royal Air force and British Army) It moved me hearing the citations being read out. It's so nice to see even with the COVID shenanigans you went through the Coast guard commanders came through and recognised all that you have given to the service. Thank you for your service in the Army and coast guard. You never know when Britain will need the US again but we know you'll all be there.

Lord, watching that retirement ceremony was absolutely beautiful and I don’t know why I personally got choked up. But I felt so much emotion in those moments and I don’t even know why. Joe, Thank u for ur service and sacrifice. I have 3 sons who serve in the military. Our sons serve Army National Guard, Marines and one in the Army. I’ve watched my daughter in laws deal with deployments and it can be really rough on them, so I can understand the sacrifices you and your son have gone through. I was really impressed by what the Coast Guard did for Joe. That was a very touching ceremony. I also love how they included your son and yourself in it as well. I'm excited to follow you on your adventure to Alaska. I lived at Ft Wainwright with my daughter and grandchildren while my son-in-law was deployed to Afghanistan 2011-2013. I loved it there. I loved Fairbanks and the many people I met there. I now have a son who is serving in the Air Force, stationed in S.C. I teared up during Joe's retirement recognition ceremony. It was especially special when the Command honored you and Parker. That was so sweet. Thank you all for Joe's service to our nation. I was like Joe. I didn’t want any fanfare on my retirement back in June. After 30 years in education I just wanted to walk away but my co workers had a small celebration to mark the end of that stage of my life and launch me into my new adventures. Congratulations Joe.
