@@homeimprovementsI've installed for 40 yrs. Lots of incorrect work here. # 1 problem is they are not using a power stretcher. Even with a knee kicker, they are still doing a poor job. I have been doing restretch work for a few years now. I love folling these kinda guys. If you've been properly trained, you would never hire these guys.

@@daveparkes8539you missed the point of the video I guess. They are showing this for a beginner level, someone like me, who never had to put a carpet or knew what basic tools are needed. It is not meant to be a "professional" work but a tutorial for people who never done it.

I've watched quite a few clips on fitting carpet and this is absolutely the best by a country mile. Nothing has been taken for granted, everything has been explained. Showing how to fold the carpet is amazing. I had no idea how to get a 4m roll of carpet up a 130yo cottage narrow staircase. Thank you so much. I now feel much more confident in taking on the task in hand. Your both legends! 😃

If my room is 4x4 meters and the carpet i buy is 4x4 meters, is it still going to work? As i see most tutorials showing the tucking the carpet behind at the side's. Can I just have it "not tucked"? Or can I stretch to tuck?

great video, thanks for all your knowledge/tips. Quick question, what size staples to use? i have 11mm underlay. i have tried 10mm but to get the staple to hit the floorboard you need to push it down and an indent is caused. will this indent be seen in the carpet above or should i just use 14mm staples. thanks.

Would you tape the joints on fibreboard underlay for laminate or not needed?

You could use insulation tape to improve the thermal property of the underlay meaning less heat loss. If the underlay has no thermal value then this would be a pointless endeavour.

I didn't have a carpet kicker, so I made one out of scraps of wood. (It was the wood from a frame for a canvas picture, 4cm x 2.5cm cross section.) I glued it all together and screwed it to make the shape of a kicker. For the grip I used 4 strips of carpet gripper glued and nailed onto the flat base, which covered the 2 wooden strips deep. It turned out to be 14 cm x 8cm. Two smaller pieced were glued and screwed parallel to the connecting piece for added strength. The connecting piece 40cm long glued and screwed on top of the knee bit, which was made with one strip 14cm x 11cm then the two smaller strips 4cm x 5 cm glued and screwed. On top of that another two strips 14cm x 11cm again glued. Finished off with 2cm thick solid foam 14cm x 11cm glued on with wood glue. It works reasonably well enough to fit the carpet. Not quite up to your guys standard but the finished job looked good and tight. So thank you very much. I realised the previous fitting of the carpet grippers were way away from the wall, so moving them in as you showed made all the difference.

I’ve been selling carpet for 18 years now at a small business ran by a 74 year old man. I know that I won’t have the job of selling carpet much longer because of his age but I would like to become an installer. Only problem is I’ll be 40 this coming January and well I’ve been cutting carpet and vinyl flooring on concrete floor for years and my body isn’t the greatest of shape especially my knees at times. Did I miss my window of opportunity to begin doing this for a living? I would love to learn how to install carpet from anything to traditional stretch in all the way to making T seams on big rooms and figuring carpet jobs correctly when measuring jobs. Problem is I don’t know if I can take a course at a local college for this or do I have to continue watching how to videos and try my best. What would you recommend for somebody in my position?

I have never seen a nice comment from a carpet guy. They all bash the videos IN EVERY CARPET VIDEO. There's always several "experts" who tear the video apart. Thats why I've never posted a video of an install. These people are in the field, in real life, among me as well. They bash people in the field, on jobs, behind our backs, they have superiority complex. Every crew has different techniques. Instead of bashing them, I learn what they know. If theyre truly unprofessional and underskilled, I purposely let them mess up and they make me look better by comparison. Listen, it's carpet. We got into this business because this is where the dullards go. Saying youre the best carpet guy and dogging others is like saying you're the smartest cognitively disabled person. It's not that big of a deal. It's just carpet. Im fourth generation. I learned from family first. After breaking away from family and working with others, I learned a lot more, different, better ways to do things. Im better than my dad was. I dont go dogging my dad about it.

This, this is the way tutorials on KZbin should be explained. As an autistic visual leaner (apparently it's not pc to even call myself the R word 😅) I need clear instructions and explanation. I've just fitted my home studio carpet after watching this (4 to 6 times just to lock that info into my brain 😂) the carpet is perfect so honestly boys, take a f***ing bow 🙌💪🔥💙

Great video, entertaining and some great tips here. Fitted a carpet a few years ago and have another to do this week so this was a great refresher.
