@firefighter91236084 жыл бұрын
@@sourmatt the steel mill..U.S. Steel closed down. The whole city of Gary was built around the steel industry. Over time the mill closed, crime went up, business started leaving Gary, people moved out of the city because of crime and no jobs, less people less need for the schools, no students abandoned schools. The City of Gary ran out of money, the city's department of education went bankrupt and the state came in and took it over. That state wasnt about to pay to keep these old buildings, treasurers really, in good repair. I went to Lew Wallace Highschool in the 80s my Dad also graduated from that Highschool in the 60s. That old gym was the main gym of the school. The bigger gym by the cafeteria was added later.

8:39 the graffiti “keep this place secret” idk why but that made me feel this like warm, haunting nostalgia for some reason. It made me remember being 16-17. where everyday was just a new adventure (those adventures would usually end with us getting in trouble) being kids doing shit we weren’t supposed to and finding places to hang out like this with friends and smoke weed, that just became hidden sanctuaries for us. All the stories that took place here, that I’ll never know and am never meant to know, makes me feel this strange beautiful sadness.

People truly do not understand how quickly a large building, such as a school or a hospital can start to break down! Part of the maintenance of the building is that the maintenance department hears from the employees or visitors to these structures that there might be a leak in the ceiling in a small spot in one room, but when there is nobody there to maintain it. One little droplet of water can lead to many droplets which will quickly degrade and this is what happens. Not maintaining the overall facade of a building and lo and behold. This is what happens! Deterioration and quickly. After that , it's saturates , the interior of the rooms underneath the ceiling and it just spreads like wildfire.

Darn shame, they could have given alumni opportunities to come in and get trophies and year books, maybe let them purchase desk, tables, chairs. Maybe children, grandchildren would have liked to have some of those things. A lot of that stuff could have been sold as salvage or recycled, money could go towards school programs. What a waste. SMH It has to be heart braking for some to see the school they attended and had happy times there, to see it looking like this.

I know it's the mantra of many explorers to leave a place in the same state in which you entered it, and I agree to the point of destroying things or writing something in stupid spray paint, but do you ever take a keepsake from each explore? I always like to take a little something. That odd doll at 12:22 would have been perfect.

@@johnnymac8843 Garbage left in an abandoned building are akin to trash put out on the curb. It's just that nobody has bothered to move it to the trash can yet. I'm not suggesting you gut the place for copper wiring or something. I doubt that if you're caught trespassing in a building that nobody have given a shit about for years, the police aren't going to care if you have a piece of garbage in your backpack, or could even prove that's where it came from. Now if you broke into an abandoned government building and found government papers lying around, then sure, leave them there. But a random piece of trash on the floor, especially one that some other explorer or squatter probably left there themselves, is harmless. And if you're an explorer worried about getting caught at all, then it's probably not a great idea to film yourself breaking in and uploading it to the internet in the first place.

Sneaking into andoned buildings at night is not a thing to do. There thousands of people living and spending night in such places and why you so stupid to risk to scare a psychopath on drugs who is maybe a fighter and out of control? Scared people are the most dangerous. Go there only after having talked to locals/authorities or owners/responsables who know if somebody is there already. Second step, come only during day announcing at loud voice who you are and what you want. This is minimum social respective behaviour and go to other peoples places only the way you like people come to you otherwise destiny will make sure that unrespectful people will come to your place one day one way or theother. You cannot fool destiny. Please respect millions of people worldwide have no choice but beeing in such places for real survival. ❤️
