These units are subsidized for native Hawaiians. They're being upgraded and remodeled and there is a waiting list of people (native Hawaiians) waiting for their homes that are following the rules. Why allow rogue homeless to take over the units ahead of those waiting in line waiting their turn?
@RosalindGash
@RosalindGash Жыл бұрын
@@truescotsman4103 They only allowed the ones in dire need (like the woman in the wheelchair with an open wound on her leg) to move in. The rest had to fill out applications to get on the waitlist; they'll have to return to their tents on the beach until they get off the waitlist. It would have been nice if you would have watched the video before commenting, because you would have known the answer to your questions.

"Clean up after yourselves." That is the biggie right there. If they are good tenants, good neighbors, take good care the place, they will get much support and respect. But if they don't take care the place, make trouble, no get along good with other tenants, they will lose more than a place to stay. They will have lost a chance to show that their plight of homelessness is not due to inability to function in society. If they trash the place, people going say, "Well, they had their chance and they blew it. All our hearts go out to the kupuna and the infirm. But what about the young men and women of working age? Why are they not working somewhere? Helping hands are to help you pull yourself up. Not hand down stuff because you no like work.

They did, "...jump the line..." But WTH is holding the line up for so long? OHA trustees and their fancy offices and comfy salaries while plenty Hawaiians are on the streets and beaches; does not seem right. It's too bad the news does not run stories about all the Hawaiians that are doing well; staying in school, getting and working hard at jobs and careers. Would be uplifting and inspiring to see news stories about Hawaiians buying homes, going college, getting careers. So these folks that gave themselves permission to move into those empty units: Good for them! But with that residency comes the responsibilities. I truly hope in my heart this story is about good people finally getting decent places to stay. And does not become a very sad story of homeless illegally moving into units and then trashing them. That would make their struggles even worse. Maybe the state or other members of the Hawaiian community can assist this transition in their lives.

Similar to the southern border in the US. People jumping the line get preferential treatment over those that wait in line and follow the rules. Everyone deserves a chance but squatting is illegal for a reason. I see a lot of comments supporting these homeless people taking these units. What about the applicants that are on a list waiting to get in? Rules exist for a reason. If these people can take a unit who's to stop someone from removing them and taking their unit from them? What's the difference? Are we supposed to let people take over property and tell the legal applicants, whom are also native Hawaiians to pound sand?

Please leave these people alone. This is illegally taken land and it belongs to the Hawaiians no matter what the situation.

A native is someone who was born or reared in a certain area. LOTS of people are native to Hawaii. NOBODY is entitled to live in property paid for by another person; that is called theft. The Polynesians used force to take the islands from the people who were there before them and they are NOT entitled to the land they do not now own.

Lets get this straight...The bloated Hawaiian Home Lands has vacant property and yet Hawaiians are houseless on Hawaiian land? WTH!!! All empty buildings on Hawaiian Home Lands should be filled with homeless Hawaiians! From what has been said Hawaiian Home Lands has plenty of money to pay their top people but it doesn't go to those who really need it. DO BETTER!

I wonder how much homelessness is in the entire country. Our government should fund a research effort for data, population, demographic, income history, drug use,

I'd bet that at some point in time a native owned that and sold it.
