Wealthy foreigners can buy land and property in the US while citizens are squeezed out of the market. Moreover, hedge funds can get 0% loans to purchase hundreds of thousands residential properties (including trailer parks) and rent it out to minimum wage workers. These two factors make housing too expensive for your average citizen. Btw, every politician knows this but they would never do anything to decrease property value.

It's now March 2023. I have lived near downtown Seattle for 17 years and love it here. Especially during the worst of the pandemic the nearby parks filled with tents. Now, those parks are empty of tents and people are again using the parks for their intended purposes. I'm not reporting for the entire city, but this is what has changed and improved where I live in Seattle, especially within the past year or two.

Homeless on my own property in USA, Washington State. I house homeless people and now Island County wish to close my legal renting and to send me out from my property to live as homeless. #2 says “all residents of the three-bedrooms house on the Property to vacate the premises within 14 days. After 14 days any person remaining in the houses may be removed” In all previous orders, the house was exempt. #3 says: “Mr. Muresan may reside in a personal vehicle on the(his) property. Mr. Muresan shall not enter or reside in any recreational vehicle of any kind, or any building on the property” #5 says: “Island County may shut off power supply to the garage/carport building and any RV. NYC, Seattle, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Honolulu and San Francisco are constantly on the news for their high rates of homelessness: what's the end game here? For one, there needs to be more oversight for funding allocated to addressing homelessness in the first place. A large chunk of these nonprofits that receive local/federal funding, are a HUGE part of the problem.: the people who want to get off the streets, can't. They give them just enough resources/information to check off a box, but not a real ladder to escape chronic homelessness/drug addiction.

100% of all these people living on the street have some kind of drug or alcohol issue, and to say otherwise is lying about the problem. This problem is due to a lack of will on the part of the local populace, otherwise they would have voted the local officials OUT of office in favor of Officials who WILL do something, like just enforce the LAW!

We need a cultural re-thinking in the US. Perhaps even a new party. One that isn't radical progressive to insanity, but not Reagan dogmatic conservative either. I don't want communism but I'm not against ideas that have worked in other socialist countries. Liberals have been causing problems because they think things like quick minimum wage increases or hefty taxes and regulations will make things better. They don't. In fact they have exacerbated the problem. The West Coast is a perfect example. In California people just endlessly vote and pass the same BOND measures. It's always more millions of borrowed money hidden under the guise of improvements for education and the environment. With all that the education system is a failure, costs are still increasing. Add to that the fact that the tech hub in those west coast cities has led to much gentrification. It's a mess for West Coast liberals. You also have to fess up. It's not just a cost of housing crisis, it's a drug problem and a bit of a slacker cultural problem too. On the other hand, many conservatives on the right think an unbridled free market and competition is the only solution that will fix these problems. It will definitely increase the number of jobs created and fuel the economy, but creating hundreds of low paying jobs with rising costs isn't helping to keep your middle class strong. We lost all those big bread and butter jobs like manufacturing. The middle class in the US is shrinking and that is NOT good for the country as a whole. Yes even those of you on the wealthy side will feel the hurt if our middle class keeps shrinking. Also the free market trickle down ideas have shown themselves to be an absolute failure in industries such as the US healthcare system. It's shameful. Trickle down in some industries has mostly resulted in oligopolies not lowered costs.

You dismiss conservatives way too quickly. Most, if not all of these urban areas overrun with homeless have been under democrat control since the 60's. A third party isn't going to happen so maybe give the conservatives a try. They certainly couldn't do any worse. Democrats have proven to those who can think that they are corrupt and uncaring for the people that put them in power. Wise up.

First, they need to lock in property tax to actual purchase price. Secondly, they need to move all social programs to a city/town/area away from business districts and neighborhoods (75% will follow). 3rdly - need to audit the business of homeless - billions spent, where is it going, who's friend's business on city council profiteering off these contracts? 4th, accountability - 1 person in charge - CEO of Homeless - see change - they get to keep their rosy job renewed every year. 5th...well, that's enough for now. Get on it before we criminalize poverty because the city failed to act.

Sorry to pop your bubble Mike, but as the Light Rail pushes into the cheaper areas surrounding the city developers were waiting with expensive new high-risers for the techies soon to follow. Already established landlords in low rent areas raised their rents in these newly hot suburbs forcing low wage people further out into the country or into vans and tents. It seems few people relate property "taxes" to the creation of homeless people. Thousands of otherwise honest folks are deprived of shelter because they are poor. How about, just as a modest proposal, we don't kick people out of their homes because they can't pay a fee? Who else gets their homes confiscated? Drug dealers and terrorists. Why do we impose the same punishment here and then ponder "why do we have homeless people?"

Per the LA times 76 percent of the homeless are on drugs and or mentally ill. That leaves 24 percent and I bet some of those are alcoholics. Some must be illegal aliens. Then the rest are stupid. You know what average people do when they can not afford to live some place? This is not a jeopardy quiz. THEY MOVE to a area that they can afford to live. Just last year my sister a life long NY renter with a job and her common law hubby with a job left due to a sever rent increase. They went to PA he was self employed so he just continued in PA and she found a better new job there immediately. They live in a real house with a yard and love it. It is quiet,clean,and said they were stupid to wait so long to do this. They should have done it yrs ago. Get a clue you with out drug problems or mental illness. The internet is you pal. It's time that big businesses bend toward the will of the people, instead of people bending towards the will of businesses. Doing what businesses want, has put people in positions they can no longer afford to keep up with. We need some form of rent control across this country. Giving us a tax write off during tax time, if most of our pay is going towards rent,does not solve the problem that happens monthly,rent and other expenses. People with good pay move to other counties and then the rent goes up in those areas, it's a chain reaction. What is the justification for the increases other than greed? With homelessness, you have seen the breaking point people have reached in their lives.

@TheTacfour
@TheTacfour 4 жыл бұрын
I never heard it called that but I did go to the opening ceremony (2004-05?) I was a sceptic until I found out that all of the people taken off the streets were elderly who were qualified for SSI. Some had major pensions like from Boeing but because of deteriorating mental issues never collected those pensions or their Social Security either. When I was there, there were 71 units, 20 of which were just cubicles on the first floor for those with months to live. The other units were tiny apts clad in washable walls, ceilings, and floors that could literally be cleaned with a hose because drains were placed in every room, at least that was the case when I took the tour.. Since this was a private project (done with the city's blessing) I left wondering who was scamming who. Rehabs.com is a major critic of "wet houses" because there is no counseling except for those who want it but they miss the whole point. It was to keep people from dying in the cold and rain and give them shelter. Maybe the notion that these places seem to make a profit ought to be an issue but it isn't.

I think in the 2-3% range with easy get arounds while other major cities require up to 20% or more be made affordable. People who yelp about Seattle being a socialist hellhole or that $15 bucks an hour caused this have no idea what they're talking about. The average techie wage (2017-18) was $64 per hour according to the conservative Seattle Times which is what's fueled this building boom and put rents, condos, and houses beyond the reach of the common family. The Light Rail, combination subway and above ground rail line, brought affordable neighborhoods within an easy commute to downtown which brought large developments following the tracks. Landlords with small older rents in those once cheap neighborhoods raised their rents from the $600-$800 range to over $2,000 and higher because they could.. Outlying towns from Everett in the north to SeaTac in the south are having their own building boom because people trying to escape high rents are flocking to wherever they can trying to find something they can afford and then face long commutes. This is all self-defeating because when people are paying the bulk of what they earn just to find a place to sleep that leaves little to spend on anything else and that will tank the economy. Over 45,000 apts in projects of over 250 went on the market just this year in Seattle. No idea how many were built in smaller projects or how many condos. No idea how many large rental projects were and are still being built outside of Seattle but they line all of the commuter routes.

Dear 60 minutes and all the other medias around the world. The Almighty Creator commanded all of His prophets to pay 10% of their net income or "Tithing" or "Cleansing Charity" respectively to: Needy Parents- Relatives- Fatherless children- HOMELESS PEOPLE, Needy people- Aliens- The Beggars - who are living on soil or in the streets - Those who ask for help- Also, near Neighbor, who is a relative- The neighbor who is farther away- a Friend who is near you- Debtors and so on. By this system of our Creator no one should have been HOMELESS. But, those wicked preachers and rabbis changed those sacred verses in those Scriptures and said, "PAY YOUR 10% CHARITY TO THOSE CHURCHES & SYNAGOGUES" so they could get rich every day. Rejecting this very important Law of our Creator results Disasters through our life. Like lack of health, accidents, losing money, property damages and so on. Just look at the Bible belt area with so many disasters every single year. Do not let those wicked religious leaders Rape your Heart and Soul. That is why we have million HOMELESS people who are sleeping in the streets. All of these preachers and rabbis responsible for HOMELESSNESS. There are 1500 pages of computer printouts available based on pure mathematics, the exact science. How come journalists have searched and researched every single subject yet, they have not looked at these scientific facts within the past 45 years?

Tithing is not biblical, the book of Malachi was talking about crops, also these churches never tell us about the firmament, why don’t you research the firmament in Genesis 1. What these evil churches don’t want you to know about. God bless, please have an open mind and let the Bible speak for itself.

As you know so called Bible was written by people who said it was revealed to us. And through the years those wicked preachers have distorted it much more to their own benefits. Like the name Jesus is a made up and you would not find that name in the original Bible in the Aramaic scripture. Even the name of Bible is made up and fake, That is why the whole Bible belt area is getting a 1000 tornados every single year plus hurricanes, floods, and fires yet no one cares. Now there is a scientifically proven scripture based on 1500 pages of pure mathematics. As you said we must be open minded. Peace

Blame it on the previous administration with the wrong policy towards China, and ignore how they raise their tariffs for the U.S. goods shipping to them and their goods shipping here with no tariffs, how could so many mistakes happen with at least 3 Presidents with the cost of the Americans lives and money?

The China policy goes back more than 40 years, not the last 3 administrations. China isn't the problem. It is us.. We're the ones who set policy and the Chinese were more than happy to comply.
