I'm 60 and played a lot of sports when I was young. 5 knee surgeries, a broken ankle and broken wrist. I can barely get up and down stairs, running is something I can only dream of doing. I can't imagine what 4 years of college ball and then the NFL do to these guys.

@007, And Roger Goodell makes 40million dollars a year as the commissioner, the NFL ought to be ashamed of themselves. They have the financial resources to take care of Everyone who has ever played that needs help of any kind. The league grossed over 11Billion last year alone. And of course the veterans deserve the same and any other legal citizen in my opinion.

This hit me hard. I play D1 college football and I am in my last season. For most of my career, I've been able to avoid injury. I tore my ACL my freshman year and my shoulder labrum the following, both leading to surgery, but that's pretty light compared to what I've seen. There have been times where I was pretty sure I was concussed but didn't go see the trainer because I was afraid they were going to pull me out. I have no aspiration to play in the NFL because college ball has already done a number on me. I don't think I want my kids following my path. Every day more research comes out showing how damaging a career in football can be. I hope I can stay injury-free for my last season. Show less REPLY

FOOTBALL 🏈 IS A DANGEROUS sport !!!!!!!! hello !
@danyalreza80506 жыл бұрын
I do understand why some people refuse to believe it, because it is hard to accept that the sport you love so much causes so much suffering and damage. but that doesn't mean that you can simply close your eyes and pretend not to know about the problem. if a player has CTE he and his family can be helped tremendously by simply knowing that he has CTE and what it is. because then you know whats going on and why instead of going through all this misery while everyone can simply wonder why it all happens. The NFL needs to change thinks, because the next blow to the head during a game can be the fatal trigger for a player. I'm absolutely terrified thinking about how many people play football who might end up with CTE later on. I pray for each and every player that they will be spared this horrific disease.

Good point. It's the tragedy; nfl players lived the dream, anyone could be a soldier. We really should have compulsory service again in the US. Lol he’s gotta go or we’re gonna move out? Are we serious here? When the money was coming in I’m sure they weren’t complaining!! How messed up is that? This is what happens man! Playing football damages the brain! And no one cares after the game is over! Same thing happened to Aaron Hernandez CTE and the violent outburst and everyone’s so quick to judge these guys, but when they are making the NFL money and giving everyone a good show they are number one they are the star of the show!! They welcome you in with open arms! But once the effects of playing football hits these guys people are like who are you? What do you want? Something needs to be done but it won’t! As long as these guys are playing football everything is forgiven and everyone’s fine with the the bad that football has done to them and the choices they make because of it. But as soon as they are no longer able to fully play and give their all to the game the NFL has no use for them and there’s no place but jail, the streets or hospitals for these poor guys!!! God bless all those who have sacrificed their life’s to entertain the world playing football I hope something is done one day!!!

It's funny odd that CTE wasn't an issue until the 1970s, i.e. you rarely hear of playing in the '50s and '60s having brain injury issues. The '70s was when they started using astroturf aka concrete covered with a rug. I think they need to investigate this as a possible contributing factor and go back to natural turf on any or all outdoor stadiums, then get rid of indoor stadiums in warm weather cities (Atlanta, New Orleans, etc.) the next time they rebuild.

The NFL has to disclose all the dangers they are aware of to the athlete and a total concurrence of both parties must be understood before a contract is signed. An NFL Player has to plan for their health consequences and stop spending all their money living high on the hog during their playing years. Both parties are to blame..............the NFL for repressing what they know.........and the players for not engaging responsible money management and/or procuring someone who can help them manage income that exceeds many times what most people will make over a life time.
@anonymike82806 жыл бұрын
@jacopman Also, with financial management, a player will not have to play as long. The risk largely is a function of the number of plays participated in. Less plays per game, less games played is one possible step. I am tired of hearing people incognizantly demand more games, as in a college playoff. The college season should go back to ten games, plus the bowl game and one championshp game for the idiots who hang on things like that. To me the championshi[p game is a meaningless exhibition. The bowls end my season. On the other hand, the athlete want their money, now. Only the PGA sets aside a portion of winnings into a mandatory pension-investment system. Everyone else is on their own. If they get it and they pee it away, too bad. When they age in, they can get the pension depending on the sport, but it's not always a huge amount.

Play for millions that's the price. Cops play law enforcement for a living and 65 or more of them are killed per year. Their avg. salary, 35-40 thousand. Don't play football. Play baseball or basketball. I had 2 concussions in high school football. And one in a motorcycle accident among many other injuries. I can't lay flat and turn my head right or left without my eyes spinning. Why ? I don't know. Further brain exams that my doctor wants to do my insurance won't cover. At least the NFL is putting up money for concussions now. And I do believe they have a pension plan if I'm not mistaken.
