Ingenious Ozzie. Really enjoyed your metal work, especially the tabs to hold the chimney and the homemade lid.

Thanks mate. It’s pretty easy stuff really. Anyone with an angle grinder could make one

Great video Les. I have a paddock full of black wattle, enough to keep me going till I fall off the perch.
@lesgold2132 Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. The black wattle makes some good charcoal. Should be able to cook up a few steaks with your supply.

Yeh. the steaks are in the paddock, waiting.🥩

Excellent video. I'm going to make a replica of that retort burner. Do you use smaller bit on a garden? That's my idea, to load the ground with carbon
@lesgold2132 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I was going to experiment with carbon in the garden this summer. Looks like it may have some positives in relation to holding nutrients in the soil, allowing good drainage and keeping moisture available to plants

Does the inside barrel sit right on the bottom of the other barrel or do you have a spacer in there? Couldn't really see the bottom of the burn barrel.
@lesgold2132 Жыл бұрын
It sits right on the base of the outer barrel to keep oxygen out. Hot combustible gases force their way out at this junction

I’m using a bigger inner barrel. 33 gal inside a 55 gal drum. I’m thinking I did not have enough wood surrounding the 33 gal. I was left with half char half wood. Can I start over? or is this batch ruined?
@lesgold21327 ай бұрын
No problems. Just put the it back into the next batch and mix it with some new timber. You made need the comparable gases to get the heat required.

Why not build a proper wood fired oven and cut to the chase? Unless you're making biochar as a soil amendment....
@lesgold21322 ай бұрын
@@snazzyd8866 And that’s another project as well. It’s all good fun for a bit of BBQ fuel.
