Homemade catfish bait that works!

Here’s a tried and true recipe for some excellent homemade catfish bait.
The ingredients you will need are, chicken breast or hotdogs! Any of your favorite bait would work.
Chicken beast
Minced onions
Table salt
Jell-O or kool-Aid
I add as much or as little of ingredients to meet your preference. Stir and mix items together until thoroughly saturated.
This is a great way add scent To the area allowing Catfish to find bait quicker and easier.

Thank you for sharing, @ozarkmountainoutdooradventures. I'm going fishing for Blue & Channel Catfish this weekend. I'm going to use chicken chunks and hotdogs cut in 1/3, with chicken liver and garlic salt, plus Jello...Jello has Amilo Acid like animal product. (SALMONELLA) Make sure you wash your hands after handling raw chicken. Also, I might try to target for some Red Drum Fish on shrimp at the lakes here in San Antonio, TX! 🐟🎣

Good recipe man! I use a similar recipe but use chicken gizzards, flour , salt , garlic powder, a tablespoon of A1 and let it sit in the fridge overnight in a gallon size bag.

Refrigerate after each use. I made too much at the start of last summer and kept what wasn’t using in the refrigerator and was able to use it until late August. If you have a long day and your bait gets hot, I will say fresh bait tends to work better in my opinion.

You can use any flavor, I think strawberry or cherry is just what the favorite we all tend to stay with.

Try squid caught 21 off em some were small some were decent but for a good 4 hrs it was hell of a time

Question: the bait, do you let it sit over night in the fridge or what? I have a decent sized public lake near by an I don't live that far from the Tennessee River. I used to use chicken liver called Bayou Baits but the local stores don't carry it anymore.

You can let it sit over night! I usually make it up the night before. But what you don’t use can be used the next trip if kept in the fridge.

Works better if you leave the chicken out in the heat for a day to spoil. I fill cages full catfish.

I’ve Heard of people using it as well. My main ingredient is the garlic. Fish love it. Can we use not only in catfish bait but also the Doughballs for trout. Bread, Wheaties, Garlic powder

Chicken livers are a tried and true bait for sure and will catch catfish!! The chicken breast tends to stay on the hook easier and can cast further with it. (Also livers don’t last as long even when refrigerated, do not freeze when thawed they will not stay in the hook) Chicken gizzards/hearts work well also.

I watched a video of a guy that did a comparison between plain chicken and chicken laced with koolaid and garlic. He found no advantage with the laced chicken catching equal numbers with both versions.

I’ve watched similar videos and studies from Deter Melhorn fishing. He advocates similar hypothesis. All n All chicken is a great catfish bait that works. I started out using plain chicken, you can see I obviously doctor mine up now….

Sorry Jon, for not including that information. I wasn't focusing on the type of hook, line, reel, or weather contentions. This video was only about the recipe I use to make homemade bait. (#4, clear hot and muggy 84 degrees)
