Is it possible to attach the chain and sprocket to the other side of the rear wheel and run the motor that way?
@kurtscottage2 жыл бұрын
Yes but you will need to weld on a freewheel sprocket, like in my 350watt ebike video. Or remove cassette add an adapter and install two single speed freewheels.
@jackcurrin87262 жыл бұрын
@@kurtscottage Thanks for the reply, What adapter would I need to connect the 2 freewheels. Also is there a reason for two freewheels? Most single speed freewheels are pretty small, would that gear ratio not allow for the bike to reach its top speed?
@Manal2018.8 ай бұрын
Hello, I want to ask about the wires of the 36v 350w electric bike. If the wires are not thick for the battery and motor, is it possible that it will be affected? Because I made the motor wire long and the battery wire long, the wire may not be able to withstand it The wire that I installed is a wire that connects from the electricity to the television, and I apologize for the length

Oh god, this is awesome! What do you think of something like this on a smaller frame like the 350w bike you made some time ago? With rwd? I've been considering a build like this!
@kurtscottage2 жыл бұрын
Awesome 👍 Thanks. Yes this motor would work on a smaller bike rwd, I was thinking of just bolting the 500w motor onto that kids bike, I think it would make a cool little ebike.

How do you charge those acid batteries? Im curious and scared at the same time 😆 im experimenting. But im afraid i might do something wrong tbh
@kurtscottage Жыл бұрын
I have many chargers, I charge them either separately with a 1.5 amps to 2amps max 12v charger [ Noco genius ] or in pairs with a 24v lead acid AGM charger. I also have a 48v ebike lead acid charger.

It depends say if you have a 5 amp hour battery on 36 volts at 500w it will last you about 45 minutes on full throttle continuous but it's not like you would ride that long full throttle so it would usually last you a bit over an hour maybe if you go really slow it will last 1.45
@customsignalsIR Жыл бұрын
Very impressive. Unsure how long the wheel bearings would last.

Thanks! it's a 80 tooth 25H sprocket. Yes it will climb hills for me, but I think a larger sprocket would be all round better.

The physics of e motors says that you can over volt but you cannot over watt. If a motor says 24v and you want to use 36v or 48v you have to make sure that if over volting that you do not exceed the amps in watts that motor was designed to handle. For example if your motor originally was 24v, 10 amps that equals 240 watts by the watts law EQ of (V x A)=watts. Since this is true if you raise the volts to 48v you now must make sure that the amps your providing to the motor and in storage do not exceed 5 amps by the EQ (48v x 5a ) = 240 watts or again ( V x A) = watts. If you do not lower the amps when over volting a catastrophic failure will result. This is the largest problem with over volting. If you continue to use the original volts intended for the motor, in this case 24v, then amperage makes no difference and the amperage can be any amount like, let's say, 1000 amps or 10,000 amps or even 100,000 amps in storage because the original 24v motor will not draw any more amps than it needs to run a peak efficiency and only except the 10 amps no matter what from the large storage supply. However, if over volting and using 48v you must match the watts and in this case that becomes 240 watts in the example and over volting limits you to using only a 5 amp storage supply amperage to match the watts of the motor. This is the advantage of always using the intended volt rating of a DC motors because it allows you to have in storage many times the watt rating of the DC motor. Not true with over volting.

Thanks! great comment👍 helps everyone understand more on this subject. I try and keep this bike mostly running at half throttle, or apply throttle to full than back off and coast allowing the motor to cool. Everything seems fine for now, no smell of burning windings, but I don't let the motor struggle up hills at near full throttle, that's when a failure will probably happen.

Can someone explain why these motors don't have a overheat/thermal cut off breaker and why 2 or 3 selectable gear ratios aren't used with these builds?
@akeiai Жыл бұрын
they're cheaply made, and may not actually have circuitry that senses temperature, and the two or three selectable gear ratio is usually not used because there's no space, though this dude created a 7 speed build with the sprocket on the front

Hi, I just discovered your channel, I'm gonna build my first ebikes to do delivery, I just started classes at university,(right now we're on break) so I wanted to build a ebike to do that job because my classes don't allow me to get a normal job, my question is, can I use lead acid in large distances?, at not high speed obviously, sorry for the broken English
@JimTMcDaniels1 Жыл бұрын
From what I've learned, Lead acid is generally not recommended. Yet some of the cheapest scooters have them and perform fairly well but not for very long distance rides. The lead is heavy and bulky and you can only use 50% of the battery power or so, compared to Lithium. Plus lead batteries can need replacing sooner. Take care

Have you ever thought of using 2 or 3 dewalt batteries there 18v and 9ah so less weight and less space needed
@kurtscottage Жыл бұрын
Good advise! I have thought of using some of my battery packs, but all the batteries I have are only 18v, 20v, 48v 2Ah so probably not worth doing. The SLA batteries are 10Ah, I think one day I'll get my hands onto a Lithium pack.
