Very cool. I love those jacks, but a feller has to be careful using them. If they slip out of your hand they can hit you under the chin. Don't ask me how I know this. I ain't lying through my tooth neither.

You probably already figured it out about using the jack on soft ground, but if you use a wide base, like the one that you made with the screws in the video, your jack shouldn't sink. Be careful though because it might tilt. I made one out of two sheets of 1 inch plywood glued and screwed together. I ended up putting a carry strap on it made from rope. Farm jack are amazing! They make a lot of attachments for them. I drive a full size SUV, it doesn't have attachment points for a farm jack, but they make a strap that attaches to the tire rim so you can lift it from there. Once when hunting alone, it rained pretty hard while I was in the stand. As soon as I got back to my vehicle and put it into gear I sunk my Sequoia to the frame. I jacked up each wheel and put cut brush under them and managed to free myself. I carry 4 foot sections of rugged plastic treads now, just in case. But I love my farm jack! I pull T posts all the time, plus 4x4 fence posts, and even shrubs and small trees. You can use it to spread things, or clamp things, and even as a make shift winch. I used it once as a press to bend some metal into a shape I needed.

I just had the idea of sliding a cable under the log and wrapping it around the jack. Then you don't have to grind the jack.

Hidden Spring Farm, I love watching your videos about your Farm and your Animals... You and your wife have done a wonderful job building your Farm and planting your Garden and the Trees, and I love your Cats and the Sheepdogs, and enjoy seeing you care for all your "Farm Animals." I am also very impressed with your self-taught abilities and all the neat "Animal Houses" you've built for your Farm Animals. Your "Chicken Coop" is so neat. And it truly amazes me how much fun you have working your Farm, and cutting down your trees, etc. Pet all the Cats (Fozzy Bear, Maggie May, Chunk, Dexter, Tango, Mango, Bubbles and Chewy), and Molly and Olive, for me. I like the "Duckies," and Rabbits, too. My Mother was raised up on a Farm (so she told me all about how early she had to get up to milk the cows "so they could have milk for their cereal," and how she had to collect the Chicken's Eggs, too. She said she didn't like killing the chickens for food, but her father said she had to or else they wouldn't eat. I'm an "Avid Genealogist," and have learned that most of my Ancestors and Relatives were all hard working "FARMERS," so I give all "FARMERS" lots of credit for all the hard work they do to run their FARMS and take care of all their ANIMALS, and their CROP and GARDENS. Hmm I saw another guy "Surviving ringworm" built one out of tubing with a boat wench but yours makes more sense and can lift heavier logs though if he added a cheater bar or piece of pipe his would have worked better to. As in work smarter not harder was my thinking but they use your jack for lifting houses so hey I think I told him about that.

You did t need to cut the foot on the jack, just wrap a chain around The log and attach the chain to the hole located under the foot, seen as you had both there anyways.

Maybe, I guess I was just trying to get creative figuring out how to get the chain under the log itself. I've tried digging sometimes and a lot of the time I manage to get the chain under without having to use this gadget. How do you get the chain around a log when if really flat to the ground?

So…the purpose of this mod is to lift the log off the ground? Why not just tie around the log with a rope, chain, or even the log tong, then just lift/hoist the log with the jack as is?

I’m may be under thinking it but my idea here is to get a chain around the log. If the log is on the ground how can I get a chain under it? If it’s softer soil I can dig under to slide the chain under but if not, then what? Obviously if I can the tractor in place I can use the 3 pt hitch and tongs but some situations I need to drag the log to get it into position. Any tips?

@@HiddenSpringFarm In that case, I think the two prong would make sense. If you can use the prong/tong the same way for the tractor, would that work? Jacking it up with the connected chain? I’m by no means a professional engineer 😆
