Good work brother, may need a little tinkering for the initial ignition but the burn time is impressive!

Yeah...i'll work it out. I "cheated" and used a lighter to get the one lit for the burn test. It lit up instantly...so in that regard I was happy. And the ferro rod might be a matter of some technique...i bet if I fluffed that cotton out better and was better sparking the rod, it would catch better. It's a learning process for sure!!

Put cotton squares dipped in melted wax in an altoids tin. you have to break up one a little for it to catch but after it does it will burn for a long time and cotton is super easy to catch.

Yeah, that's why I added the cotton balls to these, but I think the wax I used was too thick or heavy. A thinner wax might have worked better. Did you watch the video of me making them? I think if I mess around with processing them I'll have better results. Thanks for watching!

Glad you did Not give up ...and success ! & they do last a Long time!

Yeah, i was hoping they'd spark up a bit easier...but i'll keep playing with it...I think they'll need some processing before they catch. The wind certainly didn't help. But yeah, more than 11 minuted burn time is sweet...

Watched the making of this stuff and was looking forward to the video of lighting it, glad you did one. I think this would be nice to have if you have big lighter with you and want a good starter your fire, light this with the bic and add tinder. Good burn time too with nice size flame. thx for the video.

These do work fine with a lighter....that's how i did the burn test. went up with no problem. I maybe should have added that detail now that i think of it...good point.

Thanks dude...i'll send you a couple to mess with if we get that blade deal done...

cool demo man . I 've made countless fire starters I have one called Using mesophase of wax to create them which could be adapted to yours. TFS.C.R.
@outerlimitless7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...i'll look ino that mesophase wax. I feel like the wax i used doesn't melt easy enough to let the spark do its job...
@CreativeRedundancy7 жыл бұрын
its a little bit different approach to creating it that still allows for spark based ignition to be used.

Hahaha! yes, that's why i went out to the woods to light them!!! The Evil Fire Starters!!

From what I have seen you do with making a roll I am going to try and do the same thing but just a tad different. What I am going to do is make the roll with all the ingredients and then slice it into half inch sections. Then remelt the surface and then insert a cotton ball UNFLUFFED. Then when needed fluff the exposed part of the cotton ball which will catch the spark Your thoughts?
@outerlimitless7 жыл бұрын
I think that will work. Ultimately the problem that I had was the wax seems to be too hard. I think a softer wax would have worked better, or more overall wood content. I might have gone too heavy with the wax to wood ratio. The sawdust was pretty good, but I probably should have tripled the amount. The reason why I didn't leave any exposed cotton balls was to try to produce a water resistant fire starter.

to much stuff and wax sorry but not a good idea in my book

Goddess1Princess not a good idea, or bad execution? two different things.

bad execution
@outerlimitless7 жыл бұрын
Goddess1Princess gotcha... that's a fair statement...i agree that it could have gone better, but that was my first time trying. the original purpose was to create water proof tinder...if you follow back a few vids, it's based on a product I was given... this was my take on it. anyway, I agree it needs tweaking... or more.
