Thank you Denise! Happy Mother’s Day back at ya! The new goat feeder is a huge timesaver, I’m so lucky that Mike just makes these awesome things for me❤️. It is especially heartwarming to see our kids choosing to get involved in our family farm.

Very similar design to one I built. I was going to leave a shelf like yours but cut it back to the part just under the bale so the goats could walk all the way up to it. Then I used U-nails to attach some cattle panel fencing to the inside of the slanted slats, and then built some adjustable panels with the same wire for the sides that I can move in as they eat it down. I wanted to leave a shelf like yours to catch waste but knew my goats would find a way to get up there and pee and poop in it. I covered the top and 3 sides above the slats with metal roofing. One day I need to buy a welder and build one out of metal for longevity.

I had to add some more slats. Those darn Nigerian dwarfs squeezed through and would lay on the hay. The shelf is nice for when we grain them. I am with you on getting a welder.

Can we have a supply list? I can’t tell if you are using 2x4’s or 1x6’s on some of the framing. I know you are using 1x6’s on the decking. Thank you! We are feeding round bales for the first time since that is all we could get this summer and trying to figure out the best way to feed them out without waste.

How's this working 8 months later?
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Жыл бұрын
Pretty well! Mike had to add some more boards to shrink the access gaps so the Nigerian dwarves couldn’t get into the hay. Overall it’s popular with the does and humans.

I want to start a farm can you advise me
@JillMadline Жыл бұрын
Do you have a materials list, plans, or dimensions for this available?
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Жыл бұрын
Not really I just winged it. It is under 8 foot wide which was a mistake. I should have made it 8 foot wide so the round bales drive into it easier.

Will this work for cattle?
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan8 ай бұрын
It would just need wider spaces.

Well, since I am not able to sleep, I get to be the very first commenter on here! I certainly hope this design proves to be cow/bull proof. Everything we have ever built and tried has ended up being destroyed by cows. Ugh!
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Жыл бұрын
While in theory this should work for the cattle. You are right, until you see the next video I build a bull proof mineral feeder 😁. It’s lasted a week so far without being destroyed lol
@rspranchinmontana Жыл бұрын
@@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Awesome, I can hardly wait to see it! I really like this one in the design and ease of loading hay. Super nice! I'll be thrilled if your mineral feeder holds up to the bull and all. What a help the feeders can be!
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Жыл бұрын
@@rspranchinmontana I am going to make a feeder like this for the bull but I will probably have my friend make the slats with metal. The mineral feeder cost about $30 and I think it is a success.
