If your town supplies trash cans, they might be a source of barrels. I have a friend who plants trees in them and the town is happy to give him as many rolling trash cans(w/ broken lids or cracked) as he wants. He cuts them off to about 3' and buries them. When the trees are large enough, he digs/lifts them out and sells them.

Couldn't you just cut a small handle in the plastic? I'm making a couple of these for my horses but I don't have all the metal stuff you used to make the band and handles. There must be a reason for all of that. Does the plastic get too wiggly when you go to dump it if you don't have the metal band around it?

How do you know those barrels are safe for animals to drink from, when you get them from the dump area you mentioned? Do you clean them with a solution? If so, what did you use?

The barrels have a label on them saying what was in them. I always clean them with dish soap. Great Question! Thanks for watching!!

Water doesn't come out the bolt holes from the cage ?

No I use a neoprene flat washer. Before those we used nothing they would seal on there own as soil gets deposited from the cows.
