🌿Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

This soap is beautiful I would love to make rive milk soap again. I would like to do a 42 oz recipe. Is this a 50/50 lye solution or water discount. Can you recommend a recipe using a large batch. No it gives no lather at all. If you want to change the oils you need to reformulate and calculate the recipe with a lye calculator😊

I work out of our guest room temporarily and was considering purchasing a small glass hot plate/warmer (mug one) to melt the butters, they run about 18-20 for a good one on Amazon. Have you ever tried that by chance? Still unsure but may just give it a go to make small batches. May even purchase two if it works well. Also, I usually would never refer to a video as beautiful but it's the best way I could describe yours. They are simply beautiful :) Ty

I know this is a late response, the ring is just because it didn’t fully go into “gel phase” I prevent gel phrase by putting my soap directly into the fridge. However some people do something called cpop and it speeds up gel.

It's around 8-10. I don't find it necessary to check unless there's something strange with the soap. If I have measured everything correctly it will fall in the correct range
