In the Netherlands we never have a shortage of nettles and this is an excellent pesticide against aphids and white fly. Get some nettles, place them in a bucket with water and let it rot. Add green soap, mix and once filtered you can spray it to plants affected. Green soap (like my mother used) has been hard to come by so I'm going to use chestnuts because that is what my great-grand-parents used to wash clothes .

I suggest making a batch of JWA (JADAM wetting agent) and using that, it's the most neutral kind of garden soap.

Wow, this information is gold. I've been fighting these weird spittle bugs that attacked and killed a pine bush. Then they took over my black eyed susans. And of course, those are next to a bunch of perennial herbs, that I'm worried r going to get inflected next. As soon as my black-eyed susans start popping, I'm going to try this. Thank u.

I directly asked Mr. Cho about pokeweed since we have tons of it. Here is his answer: 1. Roots are the most effective. 2. It is not necessary to add another hub. 3. Hello Ntate, thanks with your detail and simplified video teachings, personally I appreciate it. I read a little on 100 herbs, they did make mention of garlic and apricot tree. You have already answer me with Garlic gloves in this tutorial and thanks again. All I want to know on Apricot is whether I use leaves or I use raw apricots,or I can use both of them. In my area we have little of 100 herbs mentioned in the book, but Cayern powder I can buy, garlic gloves I can buy also,my big concern is on Apricots. Anyway I am planning to plant Cabbage for the first time in when our Summer come to an end,and when Autumn begins.

Ok. I love the idea of making a spray. I mentioned to you the garlic seems to deter the squirrels but it has to be constantly replenished which gets to be kind of a pain mincing- up raw garlic and getting it around all your plants and gardens. ( likewise you can go through gallons of powdered stuff). Garlic and marigolds sounds like a good mixture. Its not going to leave the gardens, pots and baskets smelling like your mixture? P.s. washing w Dr. Bronner' s peppermint in a cold, mountain creek..exhilarating.

Thank you Nate a thousand times for your informative and top quality videos on vegetable gardening. You have been inspirational for me to start my first kitchen garden. RE: What is your opinion on utilizing human waste - is it safe and reasonable to do it for a home vegetable garden. 1) Introduction/Background: The location i stay is mountainous with nearly extinct layer of leaves. I have searched the forest and under the gum/pine trees but everywhere i find barren and hard soil. I nearly no access to leaves - which you have noted as an excellent source of food for the microbes, and which is a very important ingredient in most of your recipes. I am able to collect some grass clippings. I do composed regularly kitchen scraps. I am thinking to setup the liquid fertilizers you are proposing on your channel (i am a newbie on your channel and moving quickly through all your lectures). Another problem i am facing is that animal manure are very expensive here to buy, while I do not have the conditions to raise animals. 2) Question on Human Waste: I was introduced by yourself to JADAM and had a chance to scan Youngsang Cho celebrity book "Jadam Organic Farming" and there i read that he proposes Human excreta as a very valuable source for making JADAM fertilizer (in fact more valuable than animal dung). Unfortunately, the chapter on this topic is relatively short and i have major concerns/questions on this matter. I searched internet and found that most commentators/scholars in the West are very much against this method due to nasty bacterial and long-lasting chemicals in the Septic Tank waste. I would like, kindly, your opinion/view on this topic and whether there is a reasonable and safe method for a home to process there own waste for vegetable gardening. Thank you in advance.

@@gardenlikeaviking The biggest problem was aphids and squash beetles. Jap beetles also but they were short lived. I tried the (not your recipe) Castile soap and others. they just laughed at it. i probably wasn't diligent enough with regularity. It was my first time last year growing anything but a few cherry tomatoes and peppers on the back patio. I went a bit crazy last year (seeing whats coming) too see if I could actually grow and sustain myself, family and friends. I was exhausted last fall after the growing season. I found your channel this winter and kind of realized that, while I had some great veggies last year, the plants were probably not as healthy as I thought. Ive learned so much from you about nature and soil science that Ive been blown away. I will be companion planting and applying your holistic approach this year. i probably killed my soil last year with man made fertilizers. Never again. I already have several of your JDAM recipes cooking now. hopefully i can restore it. We had a few warm days here in Colorado ( brutal winter this year} and when I went to the forests to collect some leaf mold it was the only part of the ground that wasn't frozen. Amazing! Hi. Im curious. Where did you come up with your name? Vikings were farmers and city builders (Dublin, York, Reykjavik) but never connected them with gardening. 😀. I tried putting pots of mint in my bedroom to repel mosquitoes (as per online guaranteed trick) but I think our local mozzies actually like the smell. Would boiling a solution work do you know? I am going to try it but not to spray all over my room. Maybe just stand some around? Candles definitely dont work.

I believe it will because grasshoppers never eat the garlic or the chillies and therefor it has something in it they don't like... let me know your results!

Have you made a video on the wetting agent? I have been using Quillaja Saponaria Extract and its kind of pricey, I do love it it helps a ton when watering. I maybe thinking something else so I am hoping this is the same wetting agent that helps me water. Love your videos Brother!

Hello Mr. Viking. Thank you for the videos! Have you ever tried using giant (Japanese) knotweed in this manner? It is said that an ethanol extract of this weed is useful for suppressing powder mildew and botrytis and is also reported to stimulate plant growth. Regalia by Marrone Bio-Innovations uses this method. I’m wondering if it’s also effective using “your”method? When I find this weed I intend to try. You rock!

Hello brother ... its been a long time since i want to try jms...and i like your way of making this... the last time i was out in the forrest for a walk and remembered to collect the black gold from the base of tree...i found an huge old tree but unfortunately this huge godess was dead since a while ...and that make me ask this question... does the tree has to be alive to take inocculation material.. i mean i could see the roots from bottom i could take it from the roots or from the huge hole it left behind....
