I am in the process of carving my first decoy right now. I hoping to have 1/2 a dozen gunning decoys ready to hunt over for the upcoming season. Learned a few pointers on carving from your videos, thanks.

I'm glad they were of some help. I wish I could see your decoys when they're done. It will be very satisfying when you shoot the first duck over them.

Your logo looks like Keuka Lake. My grandparents have a place in Hammondsport. Just found your channel and I'm enjoying.

Not bad all. You should see some of the beater decoys I’ve hunted off

For the eyes you can use yellow thumb tacks and use a match stick dipped in black paint, You will need to put a lead weight towards the back of the keel in order to balance the decoy and stop it from tipping over in rough water. Also if you hunt in very cold weather the decoy with the bill pointed down at the water will likely ice up and cause problems. That is what I have learned in my 60 years of hunting diving ducks.

Sorry, other than that you made some beautiful decoys. Really nice ones. Great job. We would use telephone poles to make our decoys. Also heavy is good especially in rough water. They ride much better and are more realistic looking.

Thanks. I used tools I already had, I don't have the tools of a professional carver. Good luck.

I just followed your painting sequence to paint my first decoys, two red head drakes. Just used artist colors from Michaels crafts (burnt sienna for the heads!). Waiting for the glass 8mm eyes to arrive from a Ebay seller. Your logo looks like Keuka Lake in NY. Thanks very much.
