Great discussion on bags. I agree with a lot of your observations. I've shot very few centerfire PRS/NRL style matches, and I've used a bag strapped over the scope in those events, but it was a very light thin bag (probably didn't even weigh a 1lb). I tried a heavy bag in that manner and the pendulum sway was not good for movement. The Area419 Gripchanger you saw in my video: Yes, I bought this and the Railchanger version of the Gamechanger bag over a year ago, but I hardly ever use them since they weren't technically legal in NRL22 and I don't really shoot much in the way of NRL/PRS matches. I will say than in the few cases using the Gripchanger, I honestly it has a tendency to cant (tilt) left or right. I think the Gripchanger bag could afford to be a little wider or some other mitigation for canting when on a surface. Granted, I'm not sure if the thin dimensions were meant to fit a specific match rule/restriction. I'm not a hardcore PRS/NRL shooter, so I am still on the fence regarding the Railchanger+Gamechanger. That thing adds a few more pounds to the front of the rifle and it is cumbersome to manipulate a rifle with this attached. If anything maybe a lighter fill material might be the way to go for this type of Arca rail attached, Gamechanger-style bag. What I think people need to understand is that there is no be all, end all bag. Case in point is that when I was trying the Gamechanger-style bag you sent me, I found it a little easier to use as a rear "bunny ear" bag at my rimfire range (which shoots at an upward angle at 100 yards) due to it being more malleable than my waxed canvas pint-sized Gamechanger. It's making me rethink my use of a rear bag for this specific venue. I have several bags that I acquired over the years and each has it's strengths in certain use cases and are definitely weak for others. My thoughts using your bag is that I think I like having a more malleable, cordura version of a Gamechanger that's not tightly packed for scenarios where the rear support needs to vary across a wide range of adjustment (very low to very high), where I can really 'flatten' the bag when I need to get the muzzle up and turn the bag to get it vertical and the squeeze height out of it. I have a cordura mini fortune cookie, but I think it is too tightly packed which is great as front barricade support, but not very good for rear support. Again, great discussion. I admire your ability to sew. I used to do sewing when I picked it up in middle school (we actually did quite a bit of sewing in the "home economics" course they had at my middle school), but my skills are lost. I know just enough to reattach buttons and other small repairs.

You make lots of good points. I agree there’s no one perfect bag, makes having an assortment to choose from very convenient. The rail bags I’ll still have to test, I actually think the flat version might be more versatile at the moment. I like the fact it doesn’t add too much weight to the rifle. Love the videos, love the bags I installed a 12” picatinny rail on my stock to be used as a Arcalock I have a bipod, hand stop and a barricade stop I would love to have the your black bags setups.

I'm assuming shooting/guns is a hobby and your not in the military (I know you mentioned Ottawa before). Can you do a video discussing your path to where you are today. How you got into shooting, applying for a license, Canadian gun laws, and what you have learned so far in your journey? Would be really interesting and helpful for newbs like me.

noneeee just a hobby, not military or anything like that. I’m hesitant to make a video about laws as it’s a touchy subject and they could change. Wouldn’t want to be liable for anything. I had many pellet guns back in the day that really sparked my interest in shooting.

Great video. I may try and make a couple of these. Can you tell me what thread and needle size you like for 1000D Cordura? I just bought an industrial sewing machine and am learning to use it. I do a lot of shooting, and have been shooting air rifles recently in the field. Can't find a bag I really like, so making the bag I want seems like a good option. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with your bags project...I normally like to DIY lots of my stuff too, but I guess investing in a sewing machine now to make a couple of bags will have to wait...nice video though. I think I missed during the video, but how do you sewing the metal plate to the bags? What needle thickness size do you use and what kind of strings do you use? Thanks

The steel base plate I made is slid under two nylon straps and secured in place with the screws. It’s easily removed as well in case I need to.

What do you recommend for a bag filler for a weekend plinker? I don't want anything that might attract mice (eating holes in bag.) Like rice or beans. And something that can take some possible moisture. Would tiny gravel be too heavy?

Martin Hector awesome, I use the Singer 4411. Very inexpensive machine that works wonders. I don’t dare try to see these materials on any normal duty machine anymore
