Hello my dear brother, I want to know if you have 10 grams of silver, how much copper do you add to the silver and how much does it weigh until it becomes 925 karat?

Just a heads up on that solder. Brass ammo casings are an alloy that contains lead. Check the metallurgy of any material that you use if your silver solder will be in contact with food, water or used in jewelry. Super how too for silver solder........

Good point, thanks!

Lead free silver solder rod can made if uses instead ammo casing brass some brass coupling parts what common are used household water line parts and therefore can be found hardware stores relatively cheap.

I’m pretty sure that even if a center fire primer is brass on the outside it still has a small steel anvil on the inside. Best jut to punch the primer out and throw it away.

Is it important to clean and knock off oxides? Like you would before soldering brass for example.

Just sub 👍 . i do it step by step , but my solder is strong but its a slightly brazier color than my silver. Why .. I use 999 f.s
@SoatMon3 жыл бұрын
It's going to be a little yellower due to the brass that you added.

Very ingenious. What is meant by pickling? After you cast the solder wire.
@SoatMon6 жыл бұрын
Pickling is soaking the part in a mild acid. It removes the scale formed from heating the metal.
@scala19444 жыл бұрын
Water with a few drops of acid, preferably Sulphuric acid.
@arelgr94074 жыл бұрын
highly heating 5:53 min. of the smoked ingot before casting is important. former colleague, sarcmust he never learned..

How to make solder with out silver
@algerc.54926 жыл бұрын
Nice work, some nice tips too, what melting level is this blend,,easy, medium or hard?
@SoatMon6 жыл бұрын
I don't really know the melting point. It does melt before sterling and is hard when you cut it, not nearly as soft as sterling.
@algerc.54926 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was referring to the jewelry industry standard ref for silver solders which is extra easy, soft, medium, or hard.

@SoatMon3 жыл бұрын
No steel. Sterling is a sliver alloy all the way through. Silver plate will usually be brass or copper that is plated with silver.
@jdog45345 жыл бұрын
Do you need flux to silver solder on copper? We don't use it when using that sil phos 15 brazing rod, which is only 15% silver. It's used for brazing copper pipe

i would deprime the spent brass first and not contaminate with burned fulminate of mercury
@buzzard64103 жыл бұрын
Pretty rare to find any primers that still has fulminate of mercury. They were phased out a long, long time ago. That said, I do agree. Remove primers and any other contaminates.

How can determine the easy_medium_hard solder that you just made?
@scala19444 жыл бұрын
The way the man made the solder can only be in one grade if you want to make hard , easy or extra easy you have to make your own brass which is copper and zinc the more zinc you add the lower the melting grade.
