Homemade sugar board recipe for honey bees on a budget, candy board beehive, Backyard Bee Builder,

Prob a dumb question, but this will be my first winter with bees. I assume you put the candy board directly on top of brood box, and both inner & outer covers on top of candy box? Do you add anything else above candy for insulation or to prevent moisture in the hive from condensation?

XBonzGurl good question… I would install the inner cover on top of the brood box, and then I would put on the sugar board, and then I would put on a quilt box...(check out this link for more information on that)... and then put your lid outer cover on top of your quilt box...good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqLaXqqPetChbbM

Thank you ... It just depends on how thick you make your sugar board.. about 3lb should do the trick

Hi there! Great video, thanks for th info! I forgot to add my essential oils to my boards I made last night(I'll probably just figure out how to add them) The question I do have though is, when I made my second one is, I added too much vinegar to my water, and I didn't realize. I mixed it and made my candy board with it, and it has a faint smell of vinegar. Q: Will the bees still eat it? Will it affect them at all? If I lightly spray some spearmint and lemongrass essential oil on it, I assume they'll still eat it?? What are your thoughts? Thanks so much!

less is more... too much oils can cause confusion in the hive with too many smells going on .. they need to be able to smell the queens pheromones among other things to communicate... try to not over power them... good luck
