Ordered my hornady sonic cleaner thanks for this excellent video. I give you one in return. I use one tea spoon of coconut oil and rub it in my hand and use my hands to mix about 40 cases of 308. You don't need to buy any more case lube. This works like hot knife on butter. The 308 cases we used it to full length resize were very good and the difference was one thousands of an inch.

This works very well ! I think you would be safer using Citric Acid rather than the Vinegar, it would be less aggressive and clean just as well, I see the primer pockets were cleaned very well using this solution, many thanks for posting.

Do you need to neutralize citric acid?
@453421abcdefg123452 жыл бұрын
@@donaldsteele5238 I have never had a corrosion problem when using Citrus Acid crystals, I only add a teaspoon full and it always works very well, I do always dry the cases off after tumbling, but even those that have had droplets dry on them are unaffected by acid action.

Good video. I often work with small brass parts and this should be useful. Although my ultrasonic cleaner is just a miniature one it should be the same principle

No Do not use salt even a lttle on any metal is bad. Ask any watch maker Brass or Copper Zink is over time corrsive and metal has grains. Metal grains means there is places where salt can be traped. When a Copper Zink part is damaged with age then that Copper Zink is distroyed Use anything but salt no matter how little salt with Copper Zink is bad

As someone else noted, I found out that citric acid (one soup spoon) and dish polishing solution for dishmashine works very well. You can buy citric acid in 1 kilo in stores with industrial chemical solutions very cheaply (avoid to buy it in groceries). Brass looks like new.

Yes, citric acid works also...not so much odor ;-)

Good video! But this seems like quite a process. I have two dry media Hornady tumblers. Throw in some polish and it’s done in 2 hours. Spray it with one shot and I’m ready to reload.

Good idea with a dehydrator at the end… I have several of those and I’ve never thought about using it like that I always just put my brass in the oven on 150°F and let it dry my brass but the dehydrator idea is genius thank you very much. I will start using it and giving it a try.

Good video. So far I don't use ultrasonic cleaner (yet), so I do clean manually and I use a homemade solution based on 1l of White Vinegar, 4l of hot water, 1 tablespoon of liquid soap and 1 tablespoon of salt... everything in a bucket with the dirty cases and after few minutes it was already nice. Only primer pockets weren't clean enough, maybe I should have leave them longer in the solution? I don't know yet... I was scared the vinegar would be too aggressive for the brass or something like that. Maybe an ultrasonic cleaner would do a better job... I'm still on the fence for now. But still, thank you for your video, it surely helps :)

I've been looking at sonic cleaners. I take it the one you are using is made for the European market? What is the brand/model? Thanks
@wiederladerTv7 жыл бұрын
Most of the devices you can buy from the big reloading companies are made in the same factory (china). This one is from this factory as well but not under the brand of a reloading company and therefore a little bit cheaper.

As usual I enjoyed your video but now I wonder, what's the advantage of an ultrasonic cleaner versus the good ol tumbler...
@stimproid8 жыл бұрын
Cleaner, quieter,faster?
@ericdepreter8 жыл бұрын
Quieter ? To be honest yes of course. Faster, I plug in the tumbler and continue my activities, it doesnt require my presence. The max duration for the small ultrasonic I have is 480 secs ... so it does require my presence .... may be I should buy a bigger one, I'll consider. Cleaner, in my case the tumbler gives a better result, may be because I tend to forget I switched it on :)

vinegar is very aggressive at removing zinc, even at very low concentrations. i would not use vinegar for the same reason using ammonia is bad. it weakens the brass. for pistol brass probably OK since pressures are very low. but i would not use on rifle brass. look at what commercial cleaners use -- phosphoric acid. same stuff in coca-cola. it works!
@wiederladerTv8 жыл бұрын
I think if you time the process and do not heat the solution it relative safe for the brass but I will try phosphoric acid next time also ;-)

Very nicely done. I have tried ultrasonic cleaning in the past, but I did not use a commercial cleaning product. I simply used water and a little "Dawn Dish Washing Liquid Soap" and warm water. It did not work too well for me. I switched to wet tumbling with stainless steel pins. This process has worked well for me.
