My grandmother made everything from scratch. My mother hated cooking and baking ( she was the oldest and there were 8 kids in her family.) My father taught me gardening and baking and our ethnic cuisine. I love my kitchen time because I'm connected to those generations of women who did this.

That’s amazing. I totally feel that too. I didn’t get to grow up around my grandparents, but I wish I could have learned from them. My mom was an excellent homemaker and taught me a lot, but especially the love for homemaking 😊

I live on a country where homestead life isn't a thing and I watch lots of homesteading women here. I notice how a lot wear similar clothes to Thier pioneer counterparts. The apron the skirts Tue little boots. I absolutely LOVE it so feminine so welcoming so practical I think you all loo stunningly womanly. I'm a momma of grown kids and my old village home now has a big garden .... Guess who's sewing herself some skirts and aprons xxx

Oh, I absolutely love that!! I didn’t always dress this way, but I decided last year that I wanted to challenge myself to only wear dresses, except when I have to do rugged farm work! I have found it to be so comfortable, feminine, and womanly! As a child I loved to wear dresses, and I hated to wear jeans. I’m finding that to still be true now! I have sewn many of my skirts, and even some dresses. It’s very rewarding! ❤️

Cheese curds are amazing, especially fresh. My family makes what we call a Turkey dinner (or chicken) poutine. Basically roast Turkey/chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce with curds and gravy served over fries. It’s so good.

So nice, Suzanne. I've never had cheese curds, but it's awesome to see part of the process and the finished result. I can only imagine how delicious they are. Maybe sometime you can share with us how you prepare them in dishes. It's so great to live a peaceful life working toward self-sufficiency. I have that to a certain degree, and I wouldn't change a thing. Have a great week, thank you for the lovely video. I always feel like I've had a visit with you ❤.

Thanks Roberta! The cheese curds were ok that night, but they were better the next day. They needed time to sit. My husband told me that the cheese curds in Quebec are never refrigerated. They need to be eaten fresh, and if they go in the fridge, they loose their squeaky-ness. I’m so glad I can play around without actually owning a dairy cow! Have a great day!! ❤️

It’s always easier after it rains (pulling weeds). We’ve had some heavy rain over the past week, and I’m trying to get all the biggest weeds out in a hurry, before the ground dries up. Then it’s much harder!! We have some areas of clay as well. But luckily not all of it. Have a great day! ❤️

Yes, poutine is sooo good! So cool that you’ve been up this way. Revelstoke was beautiful. The only downside was that a lot of the restaurants and stores were closed. I asked someone why. It’s because it’s the off season. They only open during tourist seasons. We still had a fabulous trip!

Ich bin auf deinen Kanal gestoßen, weil du auf dem Kanal "The modern day cottage" kommentiert hast.

Thank you! ❤️ I got 2 books from the library. I like them both, but for different reasons. The first book is called Mastering Basic Cheesemaking by Gianaclis Caldwell. This book is step by step, learning the basic, easy cheeses first, then trying harder cheeses to make (the aged ones!). It is set up kind of like a masterclass. If I had to choose between the 2 books, I think I would buy this one first, because it is the most beginner friendly for learning the fundamentals. Book 2 is called Home Cheese Making, by Ricki Carrol. The book is more exciting, and more of a feast for the eyes! It has 100 cheese recipes. Everything under the sun. I love this book too, but in the first book, she takes you step by step. So, do this first, then try this next ect… I haven’t seen any other books yet. I have another one on order from the library. Once I have seen them all, I will decide on which one I’d like to purchase! For now, borrowing is fine for me. There are also a lot of videos on KZbin!

Thank you for providing such detailed information. We appreciate it and will definitely check our local library for the books you mentioned. I am excited to learn more. I have rennet in the refrigerator to try making some cheese but got sidetracked. Your video was a great reminder to try it out and learn a new skill, which will not only save us money but also be fun. Thank you again for such an inspirational video.
