Homer to Kodiak island in a 2023 Raider 28' Offshore. We see whales, dolphins, and awesome scenery.

On September 5, 2022, we took a 2023 Raider from Homer to Kodiak and back, logging over 300 miles. We observed whales, dolphins, and other marine life on the trip. We had pretty good seas and nice weather for the trip. The purpose of the trip was to test the capabilities of my new Raider and see how it performed out in the open waters. It passed with flying colors and we hope to make another trip soon.

thats awesume!! I wish I had the money to get a boat.....maybe someday, c'mon lottery! I think id of hung out and/or fished around kodiak fer a few days after. that long ride. I wonder how many ppl w boat under like 35/40 feet have made that trip. I have heard of sailing it.

I really like my Raider, however I haven't much experience on a Hewescraft or weldboat, so I can't really say how it compares. I have taken friends along fishing that say they like my Raider better than a Hewescraft. I would buy a Raider again, I know that.

There and back on one tank of gas? And may I ask about how much it cost in gas for the trip?

No, we had to refuel in Kodiak, before we head back to Homer there is a short clip up us pumping fuel. I don't remember exactly how much fuel it took, I think it burned about 120 gallons on the way there and then, because we took a shorter route back to Homer (on the east side of Kodiak instead of the west) it took about 80 gallons to get back.

I lived in Kodiak in the 70's and worked on a 85 ft crab boat I remember the challenge going to the other side of the island near raspberry island and the strong currents. Our boat only did about 9 knots so we had to time it just right.

I'm in Discovery Bay right now, waiting for a weather window to get to Kodiak. Did some bear hunting, me and my wife both have spring bear tags. I don't like the Shelikof Straight, I prefer going around the east side of the islands.

I’ve got a 2020 290 offshore with twin 300 Suzukis it’s got 300 gallons of fuel and it’s amazing boat yesterday was the best day on a ocean I’ve had it was 70 sunny and the sea was like glass it was amazing we hit 40 mph at about 3/4 throttle it was awesome

Very nice, I managed to get 52 out of mine once, it was on glassy sea, but full throttle and I had to work for it. I think Raider makes an excellent boat. I wish my boat would hold 300 gallons my tank is only a 160. Are you in Alaska?

@@MattSnader I am in Alaska about 2 hours from homer my boat stays in the harbor raider makes fantastic boats they stopped making the 290 offshore in 2020 but it great about 300 hours on our pair of Suzuki 300s and that boats got some serious get up and go nice video
