As an James Todd Smith historian, I found it adorable that the student sacrificed the money he'd saved to buy the 1989 release tape of LL's "Walking with a Panther" to buy the class another plant. This episode was 80s cute with a hint of teaching awareness, mindfulness, and compassion for others. We need shows like this NOW because those kinds of life skills and social skills are missing in modern TV.

Boy in the 90’s they would go to comedy clubs and just pick dudes to write sitcoms for. But at least you did see different kinds of black folk, especially black men in positive situations. But this was also the era that gave me a distaste for mainstream sitcoms. Every show felt the need to give a moral lesson on top of cheesy comedy.
