I highly recommend looking into a book by Generations Curriculum called Worldviews in Conflict a study of western philosophy, literature, and culture by Kevin Swanson before teaching your children about Shakespeare and other Classical Writers. I had no idea the true darkness that some of these writers had until looking into this. We no longer will be studying Shakespeare and some others in the younger years. As a Christian family we will be looking at them in high school through a different lens.

I am reading Apostate by Kevin Swanson right now and it is also a deep dive into the ‘great’ minds that have shaped the ideologies and thinking of today. Very eye opening. I will be more careful as well with what material I put before my children.

We had the same problem with our book of centuries. It’s not really something I can schedule, I’m just telling my kids to keep it out on the table during all readings so they can put people and events in every day. 😅

For the Genevieve Foster books, I assigned a single section per day. The sections are short and we got through all of it.

Yesss I wish someone would have told me that last summer, lol! Now we know! So this next year with Lincoln's World it will be daily because they are so short!

I think we are doing GWW twice a week through the whole year so we can just do a story at a time. I definitely think it’s a hefty read for year four!

The Abigail Adams book isn't really just about her. Its a very good book and ties alot of things together. She corresponded alot with her husband and other important figures during that time. Alot of our historical knowledge comes from letters she wrote or others wrote to her, especially her husband. It is a rather difficult long book though. I read this one to my children and they enjoyed most of it.

@@BrandilineMelt I agree! It's really one of the only books she didn't get into it maybe it was just too long for her at her level :( the other biographies for year 4 are much shorter. I think she did enjoy what she got through!

With the big leap we made to Y4 last year I thought I would hold off on Latin one year 😆 it was a good choice! We're ready now! If I personally knew Latin I would have had more confidence but we will learn together!
