Going full in with Moving Beyond the page for LA and science looks like a blast!!! I haven’t used them but now I’m interested. Just when I think I have somewhat of a game plan for the following year 😅😅.

We did the full package of Moving Beyond the Page for kindergarten and 1st grade then switched to other stuff for 2nd grade but for 3rd grade I got some MBTP units for science and social studies. We’re excited! The 8-10 year looks great!

Yay! This is so exciting! I had a feeling you were going to go all in. I'm 90% certain that we will be getting the 9-11 package for my upcoming 5th grader. I will choose something different for my 2nd grader though. He needs something more gentle.

We def need a change with our math for next school year. I'll have a 4th and 9th grader. Idk why I'm nervous but I think we will just do it! Hearing you've liked it enough to do it again has me convinced. We've been using spectrum for 2 years. We don't hate it but don't love it.

Level 8to10 (and 10to12) were our favorites! We used every level from 4to5 through 10to12. Not in order, not with 1 kid, but in a round about way we used them all between my 3 kiddos. My oldest used it for his main curriculum for k, 4th 5th and 6th. I am so glad so see it finaalllllllly getting attention on social media. We didn't always do every unit because they are so full. Science was always my son's favorite. I hope you love this level, it is so so good❤ we are the same as far as interest and attention span. By the time we were finishing the 3wk unit we were ready to move on and dive in to something new.

Great video! I’m a new homeschool mom (finishing first year) and MBTP was the first curricula that really spoke to me. I’m a curriculum junkie and have watched literally hundreds of videos/ reviews and I keep coming back to it! My questions are: do you think I’d be successful in jumping into the age 8-10 level without using it in the past (does it spiral)? And when I first started looking into it and asking in forums online so many people said it was just too much busy work (and many said they thought it was boring). I love your enthusiasm for it and you are by far the person reviewing it the most online. Can you speak a little more to that? Thanks!!!
@gatheredandgrounded8 ай бұрын
Hello! I am not sure your kids age levels, I would recommend taking the placement test on the MBTP site before jumping in. It does build on concepts previously taught. Or just trying out 1 or 2 units from the level to make sure. As far as people saying its boring or busy work, it could be one unit specfically, each year has 24 units and they aren't all going to be perfect. It also depends how your child uses the curriculum, this isn't just an open and go, black and white curriculum. The activities are always changing and evoking thought and creativity. There are times where out of the 3 lesson activities, 1 seems like busy work or pointless, so we will skip it. But the majority of the activities we love and enjoy completing them.

I'm curious what you like more about moving beyond the page compared to bookshark. I'm looking at both!
@gatheredandgrounded8 ай бұрын
I felt like Bookshark had too many books at once trying to go through and not enough activities in the units.
@kristensantos118 ай бұрын
They are different for sure. I would say moving beyond the page is more activity heavy. Bookshark does have a more organized approach, but they do have a lot more readers.
@SmithsInTheMaking8 ай бұрын
We used MBTP for many many years, then in middle school decided to finally try Bookshark. We liked it, but we don't really like studying 1 topic focusing on history all year. And the lack of variety of learning approaches and no activities in Bookshark was a disappointment after MBTP. Bookshark is a lot of books, many felt outdated to us, we didn't really care for the format of EVERYTHING being based around history and having to do a read aloud and an independent student reader about a time period. My kids are usually reading their own book and we have a family audiobook/read aloud, so we are usually doing that format anyway, but having so so many books structured around the history felt confining to us. We used bookshark G after mbtp and honestly skipped most of the books, then about half of H and this year are doing F...and skipped 85% of the books and were so bored and frustrated with the spine for F. We started reincorporating MBTP units in as family unit studies where they fit for our topics. We don't do all the activities in MBTP, some feel redundant and like too much. So mbtp isn't perfect either, but it definitely provides a good variety of activities and options. Bookshark really had none of that so we just found ourselves rather bored.

Thank you for all of the input! We will have a 1st, 3rd, and 5th grader (with two younger siblings running around). I'm wanting something the 3rd and 5th can do together that is literature based but still have some fun activities. I think I found the answer 😊 We are doing classical conversations and the memory work (is a little dry to me). I need something that adds variety

May I ask an additional question in regards with comparing Bookshark with MBTP but their science programmes only. What would the differences be/which would be the winner?

I have been so interested in this curriculum for my 10 year old son. We use too many other things we love to go through with it all the way seems to be my main thing. But maybe I will try what you guys did in the past of using a unit here and there to see how that goes first. Do you have one that your kids absolutely loved to recommend for us?
@gatheredandgrounded8 ай бұрын
We have done so many at this point and loved most of them. It really depends on a topic your son may be interested in, or a book he connects with. In my MBTP playlist, I have reviewed a lot of the individual units we have done.

This looks such a fab curriculum, I’m tempted to try this. One big question I have, I’ve just seen the parent guide is in the student book, and looking at the sample pages online this includes the answers. Do you photocopy each page your child uses or do they write in and cut up the pages when cutting is involved. How do you navigate or find having the answers in the book? Thanks
@gatheredandgrounded8 ай бұрын
So we have done both, where I copy the pages for them, or purchase the online version to just print out the student pages or just let them write directly in the units. The printed units are printed with blank backsides if an activity has cutting involved. The point of this curriculum isn't just to get the answer right, its about the child formulating their own thoughts in alot of the activities, so them copying answers from the teachers guide doesn't really make sense. You could always rip out the teacher portion if that is an issue.
@jessicajones6118 ай бұрын
@@gatheredandgrounded thank you, my 11 year old would copy 😕
