How long does a typical day take on Abeka Academy Level 1? Particularly the Bible, Arithmetic, and History/Science . I am considering teaching my daughter Language Arts using The Good and The Beautiful curriculum and purchasing the Bible, Arithmetic, Science and History bundle through Abeka Academy. I also love a 4 day school week! Congrats on the 300 subscribers!

Elizabeth 02 It really depends on how well my daughter focuses for that day. She normally finishes with 5 hours. Bible is 30 mins Arithmetic is 40 mins unless there is a test History/Science is 20 mins And thank you SO MUCH!!! 💜

Thank you. New Subscriber! I am a first time homeschooling mom of one daughter grade 5 but I am looking to purchase grade 4 Abeka History. Do I need to purchase the parent kit? What are your thoughts of the history program? I purchased Master Books and although it is a wonderful read I more am looking for a more structured curriculum. We are also combining Erica Arndt's Road Trip across America as a unit study.

Hi Abby, welcome to our homeschool family! I am only familiar with the 1st, 2nd, and 6th grade Abeka history, but if you are looking for more of a traditional way of teaching (learning) history, than Abeka is a great fit. I think Abeka is a wonderful curriculum. With Abekas history they usually have geography added into the history curriculum. It looks like they have a History/Geography Child Kit that is sold under the Single-Subject Book kits. That kit includes: -The History of Our United States -The History of Our United States Quiz/Test book -The History of Our United States Geography Maps/Reviews Book -My States Notebook Then they sell a History/Geography Parent Kit The contents are: -History Curriculum Lesson Plans -The History of Our U.S Answer Key -The History of Our U.S Quiz/Test Key -The History of Our U.S Geography Maps/Review Key -Geography Teaching Maps Book They also sell the History as individual items. As well as teaching aid items. So, it really just depends on how you plan on teaching. I saw that you were doing the Road trip Across America unit study. So, you may just want to purchase the individual history books. I wish I had better advice, but because I haven’t used their curriculum for 4th grade it’s hard to know exactly what you should purchase. But, I help this was helpful. 😉 Myself and my daughter wanted to do something different this year, so we went with Notgrass Star-Spangled Story. It is a more relaxed curriculum and I’ve been adding in our own unit studies.

This is extremely helpful. How would you organize it for a 2nd grader with a co-op on Friday? I noticed you did things in a particular order depending on the day you were making up. Should I just do a day ahead on whatever subject I'm making up? Maybe this is a dumb question but I'm such a planner and I am anxious on how to fit it all in. I'm not doing the videos and I am teaching him and it's my first year. Thanks for your help

Hi Angela! This is a great question. If you are having a co-op on Friday I would just spread the work out through the following week. It will basically be review. You don’t want to do it the same week, because he may not have been taught what’s on his worksheet yet. Does that make sense? Also, if you are parent led you can decide if the work for friday is even something he would have to do. If he is excelling in a subject, say math, and his worksheet for Friday is all review, I wouldn’t worry to much about it. You can skip it. But if it’s something he’s struggling on, I wouldn’t skip it. That’s my opinion though. I think the only test for Friday is spelling. If I am remembering correctly. Lol. You’ll notice once you start, you’ll start getting the hang of everything you can adjust to what works for you guys. Just don’t stress yourself out over it.

How is this working for you Angela? I’m in the same boat as you. I’m struggling to figure it out. Liz this video is very helpful. Thank you for posting. I find myself doubling up on a day which is fine most weeks but sometimes it’s just too much so I really need to figure this out.

@@fullofblessings4898 I loved Abeka but this wasn't working for us so we switched to the Good and Beautiful for LA, Math and Science and we do Notgrass for History, We LOVE it and it is 120 lessons so we can do our co-op without stressing about getting all the work done. I do still have a love for Abeka but it wasn't working in our schedule

Hello Liz, Do you believe that with parent led the day goes by faster?
@simplyhomeschool184 жыл бұрын
Hi Bright Stars Homeschool. So, I had only used video led until this year. For my daughter we are doing the Bible and the Health Parent Led and for my niece we are doing Arithmetic and Health Parent led. And I have to say, yes it goes faster. We have just had to adjust to, school time, IS SCHOOL TIME. We can’t do any of our household chores. It is all about teaching. So if you can make the time to teach, it’s worth it. I am honestly loving it, as well as my sis and the kiddos. 👍

Simply Homeschool Yes, I remember you mentioned you would be doing some parent led this school year. Therefore, I’d thought I asked you because I chose parent led for my 2nd grader except for math ( I’m terrible at explaining it) 😫 and because that gives me sometime to teach my older daughter. I feel my daughter has a better understanding when I teach her I was just concerned with time! I also have a 3 year old that constantly needs me through the day but I will be putting my all into this and creating a schedule. I appreciate you answering my concern because this question has been on my mind. I love your videos and I wish you a great school year. God bless!

Funny you said that about math. I am the same way. It was my sisters idea to teach my niece math. I had no part in that decision. But..... I find myself teaching her on some days. Lol. It’s not as bad as I thought. And my niece always asks me to teach. Lol. So how can I say no. 🤓 My son just turned 4 so I get the whole having to try to keep him busy. It’s tough but I manage. You’ll find a rhythm. When I start doing my DITL videos, I will include things we do to keep my son busy. Maybe I can give some ideas. 😉 Have a wonderful school year as well. 💛

@@simplyhomeschool18 I'm guessing you can pick certain classes to be parent led? Like I would love to teach Bible myself but have my daughter use videos for the other lessons.. this is possible? Thanks!
@simplyhomeschool183 жыл бұрын
Hi mleslife. Yes, you can choose single subject lessons through Abeka. Their catalog is so much easier to look through than their website. You can go to Abeka.com and request that a catalog be mailed to you for free. ☺️

Hi Cici. If you do the unaccredited you will have more flexibility on planning out your days. They do have the lessons planned out for you, but you can adjust them to better fit your family dynamic.
