I will be going on my 5th year homeschooling, and I have incorporated unit studies alot over the years for science/social studies. Our first year homeschooling we did an Oceans unit from GR and an Asia unit. We enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed the Asia unit a lot and learned a ton myself. I think it is a fun way to capture their attention, and foster a love of learning.

That is awesome! Unit studies are such an easy way to make homeschooling a little more fun. I'm glad you liked GR!

I have used your unit planner twice this year and it was so helpful! It helped me to adapt a history curriculum and make it more interactive and also create an original unit study for Greenland. Thank you for this.video.

This makes so much more sense in my brain than other methods that are 5-10 minutes of every subject 😅

That would be exhausting! And the constant changing of books would stress me out!

Hey Amanda! Question...for the paid subscription mentioned, are they just unit study reviews of ones youve tried? Or are the videos more of an explanation of how you deliver the lessons in the unit studies to the kids and exactly what your kids age range content is looking like? TIA

So I talk about (and link) the unit study that I used, as well as all read alouds, novel studies, hands-on activities and big projects that we completed during the unit study as well as the entry points for both my kids and if and when I customize it for them as well as how.

Do you pull in social studies “worksheets” with the science units or social studies with the science? I think that what you were saying is that you do not you rotate the focus of the units? Also what kind of activities or papers do you do with your unit studies or how do you document that learning? This is our first year homeschooling.

Great questions! I don't do a ton of documenting because it's not required in Ontario. I keep a few lists of what we've covered and basically go on a pass/fail system. If they know it, we move on. If not, we repeat it until they do. I pick a subject for the month (science) and that's it. I'm not pulling anything extra. I often buy a unit from a few different sources that have the worksheets or activities and we do those. Some people do a full unit study approach where they pick a topic and weave that into every subject. I just like to make it easier on myself and just teach 3 subjects at a time.
