Today I show you what life is like homeschooling our 7 year old daughter with Autism. John also had his chiropractor appoinment today where we got some news about his back and future treatment.

I'm a teacher and autism mama. You are doing great! My oldest is on the spectrum and youngest is not. Both of them love the Happy Numbers site. They have prek and up. I get a lot of worksheets for them on Edhelper as well and right now it is free. Lots of free worksheets and activities online. You are doing great with Ella. She is adorable and doing so great. 25 minutes of focus is amazing!

I had major back issues right and left from 18 to 21 I had two surgeries that changed my life...unfortunately chiropractic couldn't help mine but does help me now tremendously with remaining flexible. If he ever has to have surgery to correct the problem a laminectomy would change his life. You go to sleep with pain and wake up pain free!

My son couldn't sit still for school - he would be hanging off the chair upside down - somehow he still heard everything and knew the answers! Amazing autistic kids! Ella is doing so good! You are a very patient mommy! I like how you suggest a break when she's getting frustrated.

That was an awesome redirect!! “Ah, you can just ask for a break”. It reminded Ella that her words have power and gives the control of self regulation into Ella’s hands. That increases her sense of safety and trust both in her mamma (or therapist or teacher or whoever) and in herself! One of the reasons I love watching this channel (and it was the first channel of autism families I found when I started looking, funnily enough) was what a good job of learning, adapting and teaching that Lauren does. And Lauren’s mom reminds me of mine in a lot of ways.

My gosh, Ella is so smart! She really seems to do so well with her schooling at home. My little has been a bit rebellious about doing hers, and it doesn't seem to help that the ADHD is strong with this one haha. I did get her an abacus from Amazon though and that seemed to make math more interesting! And the book Ella got looks like an awesome find! My daughter is so petrified about bugs where we live that she refuses to go outside right now :( Knowledge is power though, so I may look into that book to see if it helps her! We had a two hour meltdown today because we have a few carpenter ants getting in somehow, so that was super fun. I also looooove that Ella can let you know when she needs a break, we're still struggling on that one. Thanks again for always sharing! My daughter loves seeing Ella and asking about her

I have always loved thunder storms. When I was a little girl I used to sit by my opened window and be on the phone talking to my friends. My mom used to yell at me to close the window and get off the phone cause she was afraid I'd somehow get struck by the lightning 😂

Omg my mom too!! But when I was younger than Ella and there would be a storm ⛈ my mom would sit with me and my baby brother and we would count how close the storm was. So it’d be lightening and then we would count the seconds (with Mississippi’s) until we heard the thunder. When they came so close together that you couldn’t even get through 1 Mississippi the storm had reached us and we would cheer. It was always just a little sad as the Mississippi’s got longer and longer as the storm swept away. When I saw that Mamma and Ella were getting distracted by the lightening, and they were doing math time I was like what a perfect math exercise. And taking the distraction and making it into the lesson, without even noticing, cuz it’s fun.

lol, Ella and the storm! Very adorable. I have the same reaction with Thunder/Lightning! I grew up in Jacksonville, FL... Remember many summers lying in my bedroom with windows open as the sounds rattled through my room. I now Live in WA state and we have some doozy storms here! LOVE THEM!

Hey Lauren, I am a sped teacher and have students who do not write well. My OT told me to use golf pencils! I found some on amazon with erasers and they made a huge difference.

Here’s a tip something I learned from our ABA therapist and what they do at the center my daughter goes to. Something I’ve alway overlooked and something my daughter can’t communicate to me if she’s uncomfortable. But making sure they have a table and chair that is appropriate to their size. Feet dangling can be very uncomfortable. Even using a stool or something under their feet at a big table. Having her feet flat on the floor or the ability to put her feet down on the floor has made a big difference. It has made all the difference getting my daughter to sit up and attend to the task. Something we’ve always struggled with. I homeschool her too and we always just had our dining table. But you guys rock and I just thought of this watching your vid! ❤️☺️
