Thank you! I googled it myself and tried to make sense of the posts and wiring diagrams and found your video and fixed it in under 2 minutes!

Thanks for the video! I paused the video and used the middle diagram you have at time index 8:03. So far it is the only configuration I have been able to get to work with the Shelly 1L with my 2-way switches based on how my home is wired. Have you noticed that when the Shelly 1L is "off" there is still a small (

Hi, thanks for the video, you have really helped me out with these switches. Can you provide some information on how to use with a 2 Gang switch that controls 2 separate lights. In my case the downstairs light is a two gang but upstairs is a single gang. I want to add a 2 Gang upstairs and connect the second switch to second Shelly that is used as a virtual switch to toggle the downstairs light. Could set this up as a scenario on your test board?

Time to investigate my wiring... Where I need this is for my hall and landing. The hall has two switches and the landing three. Although one is downstairs on a double switch plate with the hall. Both the hall and landing have two decorative lights each with three GU9's. And as the halogen lights expire, I am replacing them with LED's. So while I don't need the bypass today, I will eventually right? Would it cause an issue if I used the bypass anyway?
@HomeSight
@HomeSight 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roy. Should only need a bypass when under 20w. Any of the old halogens should push above that! There’s no issue with adding it into the circuit anyway, but will add extra load and therefore cost! I’ve seen your messages about the switches with diagram so I’ll come back to you separately on that. Thanks

I have 2 light fittings controlled by 3 switches. Would I use your diagram with the black wire going into SW2 or Don't I need to bother with the Common. Also does it matter which switch I choose to install the shelly 1L. There is no Neutral.

Thansks Simon for the tutorial. It's a much needed help for us who are based in UK. Questions I have, hopefully you have time to answer this. 1st - I have similar setup to this, but have got 2 lights connected. I just need to use 1 bypass on one of them, correct? (Total of both lights are only 16W). 2nd - can I use the same method for 3 way? (3 light switches controlling same set of lights). Many thanks.

Hi there, I have just wired up a Shelly Relay Pro 4pm. I was wondering if the manual switches work regardless? For me, when I turn off the light / line using the Shelly app (the relay), I need to turn the manual switch on and off again for it to work. Have I was wondering if I am doing something wrong? Help.

@@HomeSight I went and had a look at your site, very clear and concise too. I would be very interested in knowing which tool you used to make the wiring diagrams, I'm looking to create something similar for the changes to my home circuits to put in an automation manual for the home.

Great Video, really useful, i have a 2-way 4 gang light switch i was hoping to use Shelly 2.5s with, do you know if i can use this method with the 2.5s or will i have to try and squeeze 4 1Ls in there? Thanks

Hi, assuming you have a neutral in there you could use a couple of 2.5s yeah no problem.

Can someone explain something to me. So for shelly to have light on it must have live coming to SW. But if live is comming, and I turn light off using app, and then click one of switches - no live is coming to SW, will light turn on? Basically, does shelly track 'state' meaning even with no live comming to SW it will light up?

Hi. Thank you for the informative video. I've recently purchased broadlink TC3 light switches. They have no neutral and no common. Can I use these with a Shelly 1L on existing 2 way switch wiring? If so, how as with no common I'm unsure of what the wiring diagram should look like. Thanks in advance
@HomeSight
@HomeSight 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, you won’t be able to use with the TC3. It just requires a standard switch. The TC3 would take the place of the dimmer as I understand it.

Yeah, just one is needed. It just needs enough load in the circuit to power itself.

Great video and easy to follow. Unfortunately in both of my switches I only have single wires going into L1 and L2 on BOTH switches. Could I simply pick one switch and take the existing L1 wire and plug into Shelly L, the existing L2 wire and plug into Shelly 0, and then take a new wire from Shelly SW1 into L1 on the switch and a new wire from Shelly Sx into L2?

Hi I would like to use retractive momentary switches for my shelly. Some guides have said the wiring is the same as a standard 2-way switch and others say momentary switches change the wiring. Can you help with this at all?
@HomeSight
@HomeSight 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I can. Yes they work in just the same way, the only difference is that you select the “momentary” button type in the Shelly settings. The wording from the Shelly is as follows: Momentary - Set Shelly device to be "Momentary" switch. Push-for "ON" or Push-for "OFF". Hope that helps

This was super useful. After a little bit of trial and error I was able to get two way switches working... Almost. I used the first method you showed using the SW1 and SX. My issue is that when both switches are in the on position and if that puts the light on, the Shelly turns the bulb on and off rapidly. Not sure if this is a wiring issue or something I need to change in the Shelly settings? It's not a normal flicker, as I can hear the Shelly turning on and off behind the switch. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you might need a Shelly bypass as the load isn't sufficient?

Hey I loved the video thanks!! Quick question - I'm looking to create a permanently live socket from my porch light circuit ( I know this is not good practice, but its my only option). The light is a single switch, so there is no permanent live. Currently I'm planning on wiring it so its permanently live at the switch to allow for constant power for the socket. I will replace the current light with a sensor light. My question - is there anyway I can use a Shelly 1L in this circuit to keep the light switched and also provide a permanent live for the socket? Thanks in advance :) Paul.

Hmm, I think I would just put a zigbee bulb in there if I’m honest? You could use the 1L though, just wire it at the rose and remove the switch, connecting the live and switched live into a connector block.

@@HomeSight If I use a 1L could I keep the switch on the wall to turn the light on / off, while connecting the socket before the bypass in order to keep the socket permanently live? Thanks for any feedback !

Umm… I’m not sure I full understand, but it doesn’t sound good! You shouldn’t have your lighting and your sockets on the same circuit

Great vid Simon, thanks! Good to see Home Auto based on UK wiring. Would a Shelly 1L need to be protected by a 3A fuse/RCD?
@HomeSight
@HomeSight 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Barry! Yes, i thought a while ago we needed some UK "skin in the game"! As it forms part of your lighting ring, a 6A would normally be used, unless you're planning on fusing separately?
@barrydonaldson
@barrydonaldson 3 жыл бұрын
@@HomeSight thanks for relying! However, would the 6a fuse offer any protection to a 4.1a device or would it just let the smoke out?
@HomeSight
@HomeSight 3 жыл бұрын
The fuse (circuit breaker) isn’t really there to protect the Shelly or any other device. It’s there to protect the circuit if a fault is caused by the Shelly (or any other device). If the Shelly blows and caused an electrical short, then the circuit would trip, equally if it was taking more current than anticipated, I.e more than the rated current, it would also trip as this would be classed as a fault condition.
