We have a lot of natural springs that run through Texas. Central Texas area has a lot. I recommend as Texas native to look west of Austin without going into Austin. The topography out there is so beautiful! I’d follow the 183 hwy, it runs parallel to 35 can get you to SA, Austin and pretty close to Dallas/ft worth area. Good luck! Great video!

That hard limestone rock soil is not good for farming. East Texas is the best part of the state for homesteading

I originally looked in Texas Hill country but the price was three times where we ended up. San Jacinto County, 2 counties north of Houston, there are actually hills and we get about 58 inches of rain. Something to consider if you can stand very rural with access to big cities within an hour (Woodlands/Conroe/Huntsville). It has gone up but the prices are still lower than Hill country, rich loamy sands not the limestone, easy to get well water and all the pines you can deal with. I never thought I would end up with 28 acres but love it. Four miles south of Lake Livingstone area. Smack dab between Huntsville and Livingston, Tx.

We really enjoyed that region! We went through there after seeing Victoria and visited Lake Livingston as well to check out the local recreation. Thank you for sharing the tips and feedback. As someone who moved to south tx from deep etx and just moved back after 15 years i definitely recommend east tx the south is dry and just not the same
