I grew up across the street from a family owned dairy farm. I’ve wanted a Jersey since I was a child and saw some at our huge state fair. I was looking for small acreage when my old friend showed up and we married. Within a year I was chronically ill. That was over thirty years ago, so no way to keep a cow. But I still love ‘em!

What a lovely man! It's apparent that he loves those cows. They are adorable. If I'm ever in need of that quantity of milk, and have adequate land, I'm convinced that the darling mini Jersey is the best choice. I'm so glad I got to see this. Thank you!

I am on the verge of being a dairy cow owner. I've milked goats by hand, but never had any experience with a milking machine and never owned a cow. After watching this video, I feel as if I am ready to slide right into it. This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen, aside from being a good vid for owners / would be owners of the mini Jersey.. This is a great video for anyone considering to own a dairy cow. Thanks!

Thanks sincerely for this video. It took me back to the 1960s/70s when we had Shorthorn Cattle. Wish I could go back to that time in my life. We had only one cow to bloat. A friend of my dad's came and stuck her. She bounced right back and delivered a healthy calf a week or so later. It seemed like a miracle to me!

You are so well rounded and educated. Everytime i watch your vlogs, i learn so much. I grew up a city girl, started homesteading in my 30's. I have forgotten about ham salad, though i like a little onion in mine. My chikdren took a lot of egg salad sandwiches, and meatloaf sandwiches made with either ground beef or ground turkey. Later, i found i could make a ground pork meatloaf flavored with barbeque sauce. I have never made hot pockets, but I will now. My large family is grown and living their best lives, I run a small 3 acre homestead with my 43 year old autistic son. We have made a sweet life with intention and simplicity. As always, God is good!

I love cows!! My aunt had a milking dairy but Belle was the house-cow and was gentle and easy to hand-milk, even by a little niece.. She gave the richest milk you ever saw and the summer-butter Grandma churned was better than any I've ever tasted. Belle was a Jersey. The rest were breachy old Holsteins. I have Grandma's old churn and three acres and a dream of a having a milk-cow someday..

Cynthia Weathers I milk my in buffaloes in the same way when they are few days old. But when buffalo get bigger they squeeze out milk much faster than I can, so I let them drink after milking. However I have bottle-fed orphan buffalo calves and calves rejected by their mothers but I don't need to massage them as buffaloes don't lick or massage their babies during breastfeeding.

There is many reasons people who have more than one cow don’t do that.Firs, hygiene standards,we don’t want saliva, dust, dirt, hair get in milk.we want to control how much each baby gets, doing like you’re dad and uncle did, don’t guarantee how much baby gets, probably human or machine milks faster than baby drinks and baby won’t get enought and then you can end with malnourished baby...also when it’s not just own homestead and one cow,you need to make profits,to buy hay, food, minerals, pay vets and generally take best care of them.if you won’t make profits cows will end suffering the first.if we won’t do what we do,breed won’t be needed and will perish.so farmers do what they do with best intentions.Nothing worst than seeing animal suffer and not knowing, not beeing able to help, not having enought money for vets and treatments.Take it from me who grew up with hundreds of cows and spent whole childhood feeding baby cows with bottles while having other hand suckled up till elbow buy other baby 😂 Cows are intelligent, gentle, loving animals,no normal person wanna harm them, especially farmer for who these cows are literally way of life and feeders. But as I sed it’s not realistic to keep babies with mums if you have more than one cow.You literally can’t sell milk if it has bacteria from babies saliva. If you have one in own homestead for own use,it’s own decision how and what to do..on other side,as with humans, cows also not all have same amount of milk, quality babies can be weaker drink less and if you don’t milk, cow won’t produce as much milk, and then baby can perish..so yeah, there are more reasons than one to milk and give baby controlled quantity of milk even if you have just one cow.

Jersey are the best milk cows in my opinion! Sure Holstein are the A typical milk cow but the temperament of a jersey is impressive. Their milk production is surprising. One cow can feed a family. If you have a cow and a dozen chickens you can live a long time. You have eggs, milk, cheese and butter. That's enough to live if one has a fine garden!! I had to edit....why do you think a homestead family had a milk cow and chickens! Chickens for meat can make all the meat a small family needs. But milk and butter keeps people alive in the lean months.

How could you not love that face. I've never had a closer look at any one specific cow (or cow breed for that matter) I'm not fortunate to have been born into farming sadly, but these cows are just beautiful. Their gorgeous eyes. I do love the smell of cows, even their poop lmao. It's just such a natural smell. May also remind me of my childhood in the small german town I grew up in there was a farm my mom used to take me to to get our milk fresh. I can't actually remember but subconsciously the smell must trigger happy feelings in me. Farm smells in general are just the best. Love it
