Kind of reminds me of the tale of the Ant and the grasshopper. The Ant stored food, worked hard, got ready for the winter and warned the grasshopper to do the same, but the grasshopper laughed and said later. When the winter came and the grasshopper was freezing and starving he went to the ant begging for food and shelter. Unfortunately, we have had it so good here in the United States that there are a whole lot of grasshoppers out there

Yes. We've been too spoiled for too long with the best of the milk and honey. And it's across ALL age ranges, too. I've known way too many born in the 30s, 20s, or even earlier, who are/were quite comfortable being so spoiled.

@@katie7748 Preach it. I'm sooooo done with people blaming it all on the young generation "o young people are so spoiled, they don't want to work bla bla bla" Mean while I know so many spoiled baby boomers and what not,bléh. Lot of older people like to project, there's a lot of issues with people in (Western) societies this days ( and with this day I mean the last couple of decades) and it's cross generational.... Let's all just stop blaming one or another generation. Kind regards!

I have to share a funny story with you. For Christmas I shipped my brother some items from Wal-Mart and subsequently forgot to remove his address from my account. In January I inadvertently sent him 20 pounds of rice and 16 pounds of pinto beans. He called me incredulous and I explained my error. Long story short, he bought food grade storage buckets and now prepares. Once he had some food on his doorstep he somehow had ears to hear all the reasons I might place an order like that. I gave him some things to look into, and now he's begun his journey of preparedness. While I never intended to send him this "gift", I now consider it a divine appointment, and I'm happy for the shipping mishap!

The BEST prep I bought this year was an entire large tote filled with good seeds from a resale store. It was donated at the end of the season from a local nursery, and I paid $10 for it. Probably at least 200 packets of 2023 seeds. I really scored!

What is the date on those seeds. Most seeds are only good for 3 years, and they go worse and worse thereafter. Never buy without reading (in fine print at the top of the back of the pack. Sometimes what seems too good to be true usually is.

In the beginning, I warned my Mother, fiance, and close friends to stock up on their food. They laughed & joked about it. I was tormented and called a crazy person. Also called a greedy hoarder. Now that it is 1 year later, they see the light. Not one of them apologized. 6 month ago, my Mother got into my place and stole half of my food. She said I did not need it. I had to start all over again. I was preping for both of us. However. When she stole from me, she became on her own.

I told the Prepping Preacher (RIP) during a live once that I can't get my dad to listen... so I store food at his house because he has more room. Gotcha, Dad! Oh, and could you hang on to this camp stove for me? Merry Christmas! Here's an afghan I knitted for you! Sure, I can mend that coat. Any chores you need my boys for? The Preacher laughed. Gets the job done,

Prepping helped my family when 3 out 5 of our vehicles went down back to back. Then the washer and the vacuum went out on us. SMH. Got the cars fixed one at a time. Got the vacuum and then a washer/dryer set. Only bought milk and bread that entire period. Yes, it cost a small fortune to restock, but we didn't have to choose between eating or repairing and/or replacing stuff. Preps have helped us through frequent power outages. The last power outage, we didn't miss a beat. I only wishI had the money for a whole house generator (we don't buy on credit, if we can't own it outright we just keep stepping). But that's okay, there's always a work around.

I've talked until I'm blue in the face too. My pantry has helped me soooo many times I cannot count. I've helped others and tried to show them also and it falls on deaf ears. I garden, dry, dehydrate, freeze, can etc. I admit I am afraid of pressure canning and have no experience in it. I am researching option but found two places nearby who run a cannery and you can take your jars and produce there and they help you and teach you....soooo guess where I am headed this year?! lol Who knew?! They've been so nice! :) This year I think we all need to be as prepared as we can for anything. We appreciate you! :) Our nation has forgotten the days of old when it was normal for people to be prepared, it was a way of life. We are spoiled now and no one knows how to do anything.

Amen. Thank you for your channel. Your conversation today reminded me of the childhood story about the little red hen. Nobody wanted to work, but everybody wanted to eat. "If you don't work, you don't eat." Joseph in the Bible prepared for several years before the famine came. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be ready so you don't have to get ready. Keep up the good work. My husband and I watch you and Mr. Homestead Heart regularly. 😊❤❤

Well, I caved and my oldest daughter and myself chipped in and purchased some basics for my son to get through if he is careful for 3 months including some chicken, beef, beans, pasta meals breakfasts and lunch is on him. My neighbor's prayer group asked would I share my food storage and I said "NO" but I would share a meal. Sharing my food is finite and what would that serve? They said, "Oh, but you will take care of your family" and I said yes. But really, like you said, its on them at this point as I have been doing this since I was a young girl. My mom was a Natzi war surviver and she always had enough food to live on for months as just standard living from day to day. My sister is the same, she is not into food storage per say but you could live out of her pantry for 3 months easily. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I do share your channel sincerely from a serious prepper for the last 14 YEARS! Learning to first can from my Utah days as a young mom living there as a newly wed (we now live in Central Florida). Red reminds me of all my LDS neighbors who got me started in canning while living in Utah. Love her too.

I really enjoyed this video Mrs. Heart. You gave a lot of great information and inspiration. I'll turn 70 years old this July and I've been gardening and canning myself and with my 2 sisters for almost 50 years. I also helped my Grandmother to prepare her food for canning when growing up too. So as long as I can remember I was in the garden and kitchen. I don't know what drives me to still do this, I really don't have to anymore, but, I choose to. I am so thrilled with this homesteading thing happening all over the country. Keep up your talking to as many people as you can. There will be a need in the future, I'm afraid, that it will be a necessity. God bless you and the work you are doing.

I have canned for years. My mama always said if it could be canned I would can it. LOL. If I see fruits on sale, I buy in bulk and can it. Meats, can them. People give me deer and bear and I can them. I plan to have a bucket garden this year God willing because I don’t have a place for a garden really and the fire ants will eat up my potatoes. I will also be buying small plastic pools for some of my plants. So many say the same to me about coming to my house if things get bad. I tell them they can do the same thing I do and if they don’t…sorry for them. Family or not, I have worked for years preparing for whatever may come. My daughters used to say I was hoarding until the TP shortage. Now they don’t say anything. I never struggled. Please keep doing what you guys do and I will keep watching. May God bless and keep you and Mr. H. ❤

Try pure borax on the fire ants it may take 3-4 applications but it works. I use an empty spice shaker . The borax for washing powder you can just break up the clumps and put in shaker just sprinkle a layer over hill there day's later do it again. There are more eggs laid .

Thank you! Yes! I commented on another video about my own neighbors who have become and expect to stay dependent on me in emergencies. I have been trying to show many of them, but they don't want to do things because they want ME to do it. When it comes down to it, I'm only going to be able to help my family. I'm going to feel guilty because that's my nature, but I guess I have done what I could do.

What saddens me is that family won’t help, but will expect you to help them. Many are saying they can’t say no to their family, which is what they are counting on. How heart breaking for the one trying to prepare. I have told mine that they might not be able to make it to me. My daughter has a little in her pantry, which is more than she had before. Still worrying about her!

I just want to say thank you to you for showing me how to use a 5 gallon bucket to store food in several years ago. You helped me to figure out how to get started. Can you imagine what Noah went threw trying to warn people to prepare and they would not listen?

I have been saying this also. In the end we all know what happen. God close the door and only he could open it.

It was several years ago, so I am not sure which one it was. I think she was storing beans. But, she also said you can store rice, oatmeal and the likes as long as the bucket is good for food storage. It was simple, get a bucket, dump the food in, add some bay leaves in it to keep bugs out and that was about it. Get the gamma lids if you can. I buy the buckets and then later as my stock grew I bought the gamma lids because at first I could not find them. So, some of mine have that lid and some don't. But, it hasn't effected my food either way. Now I am starting to switch to glass containers as I use up our food and replace it. I can use the buckets for so many other things too. But, when you buy in bulk, having a large container to put it in is great. @@ElevateDreamers

Thanks Mrs. H for reminding me of the importance of preserving food and being prepared. It's not as if I didn't learn from my Mother, Grandmother and all the Aunts. 2020 really put the "you better " in my life. I haven't stopped doing something to be ready for whatever since then. I just do gentle reminders to others and pray that they listen. Blessings to you and Mr. H 🙏🏽

Minus 24 windchill tonight. So glad for a woodstove. Furnace would struggle. Water dripping and faucets outside are double covered. The snow is slippery now. Been tripping over chunks. One more week then we'll hit 30 degrees. Can't wait. I'm piled up. Just doing what I have to outside refiling quail bowls a few times a day and mail. Chicken and winter squash tonight from the garden. First gardens over 30 years were turned over with a shovel and it was two large areas. Then filled a pickup with compost and spread it. It worked but can't do all that again. On my 2nd tiller and have raised beds.

Mrs H, thank you for teaching me so much. I am 69 and just started canning in July. I always did water bath my tomatoes but I wanted to can meat, and vegetables. I also learned to grow potatoes this past season from watching you and Mr. H. God Bless you both. This is my second year buying seeds from your seed shop. ❤

Your honesty is well welcomed. I have stocked and canned and continue to do so for myself, a young widow, and our 4 children. I spread the word of prepping to my co workers. They laugh and say they will just come to my house. Lol It will be a hard lesson for some. I just boxed up books to use the book shelves as storage space. No excuses to not have at least rice and beans put away . Thank you sweetie. God bless.

Thanks Sis! I needed to hear this one. It's not just the pantry that they say no to. But, yes is yes, and no is no, no matter what the category. I stopped talking about the panty to most people. When they shut you off with I'm to busy for that. I'm done! There is one big thing we should remember, some people are watching, that you don't even know about! I was out watering my containers in the front, and a car stopped in the middle of the road, she rolled down her window and yelled out..HEY, I wanted to tell you that I drive by here every day and your little garden is so beautiful. She said it's encouraging me and the children to see it growing, and to say thank you. So, our light isn't JUST for family, friends or neighbors. It might be for that one lady and her children that simply passes by, everyday.

I have told my adult children, family members, etc. Some laugh and say 'well I know where to come if it hits the fan". They seem to be planning to leach off of those who are preparing. Others take it with a grain of salt!

I use to help my grandmother can , they had very large farmland, and sold to all the locals. I started canning on my own 8 years ago. I love it! ❤️

100% agree. I stopped wasting time on people with no interest in learning anything. But would probably show up in a crisis and expect me to do it all , while they lay around like it's a resort .
