Homestead Horsemanship

Жыл бұрын

A new client horse has quite a bit of trauma and emotional damage from a previous trainer. Follow along as I show you a few habits I use in training her, to establish a relationship of trust, friendship, love and respect.
Follow along with our family as we share our life events while living on our 168 acre homestead, farm and stables!
We are all about raising and training our horses, the Missouri Foxtrotter. Our goal is to bring awareness to this breed and showcase just how wonderful they are! We also raise and train our working border collie dogs. And don’t forget the homesteads sheep, goats and mini cattle!!! We also go to occasional auctions and recently have gotten into regenerative farming/agriculture. We are all about learning how to improve our fields/soil.
Phew! That’s a lot! But we love it! Make sure to subscribe to our channel to follow along!

JR, I just love the way you train!!Wow! The Lord has really given you wisdom! I've always had a Tennessee Walker. Lost him tragically to coggins when I left him in the care of the stable owner, when I went off to school. He put him out w the cows and didnt protect him w fly spray and just left him unattended. He was in his twenties when I to school. I didn't know anything about coggins back then! It was called swamp fever when I was young. I'm 63 now. Then Rhuematoid set in and I had to have 7 hip replacements in 22 Mos. Therefore the end of my riding. 💔😪 But, Jesus has assured me, I will be healed and ride again! Oh, how I have waited soo long for that day...I love watching you! It really has sparked that passion I used to have w horses! I love them! All animals. Anyway, thank you, for your gentle but firm approach and just, the thinking you have, in every move you make! It's just refreshing to see! I think you're great! Love to family and of course to Our babe, Oliver! He looks incredible! Would love to have him! God has Blessed you w some beautiful Equines!! Have a wonderful Resurrection Day! ❤😘

As I've stated before. I have no knowledge about horses, period. But so far you are showing a gentle, loving, God focused way of doing what you do with your horses. I'd love to maybe learn to ride, but as you get to be my age (67 in June) you begin to forget these things. Love watching yours and another or 2 with horses. Good luck with Pearl. Look forward to your next video.

I like how you work with her. You say we are given dominion...but you really treat them with respect and partnership. I like how you complete every positive training maneuvre with positive reinforecement. The most recent memories are what they might recall first? "Fear is the mind killer." ("Dune" by Frank Herbert.) Fear is the grit in the bearings of any endeavor, I think. I can play a piece of music on my guitar perfectly, but when I try to record it, it's all over the place. I think the fear of playing badly makes me play badly.

Good look at your training method. I learned to train from an amazing women and had good success following her example. I've never had a horse I've trained buck. Of course, that probably stems partly because I didn't take on horses others had mistreated. I wasn't brave enough to take on someone else's problem and pretty much started only youngsters that hadn't been riden before. I love your prayer for yourself and the horse. If I were still training, I'd definitely add that as part of the process. You demonstrate great horsemanship in every way. 😊 THANKS!

Wow JR..just wow..what on earth did they do to that poor horse to make her so reactive to the slightest thing..they put chains on her legs to correct a trot ?.. I've said this before ..I'm no horse person but I am an animal lover and have trained dogs..obviously NOT like yourself and horses but you reward once they do something good and keep doing that in stages not push them further..I feel for her so much..yes as you explained she might be a bit highly strung from her breeding line but her previous 'training ' exacerbated all her predisposition to be ornery and frightened..I'm learning so much about horses from just watching you..didn't know about all the one side being used at the same time but showed us perfectly on little Rain..you show them the way and you can identify from her head and foot movements when she is comfortable with them and at that point ease off and it clicks in her brain.. easy when you explain it like that..just repetitive but in small doses not to overload her..and JR..she didn't buck did she..👍..I'm going to love seeing this horse relax and start to actually enjoy what she is doing. .brilliant video for any newbies like me but for people who may have these issues with their own horse..and the KZbin chanel should hopefully increase the people coming to you for horse training..which is clearly your first love..really enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next one..will you possibly be able to explain what 'gaited' horse means?.. 🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐎👏👍👏👍🇺🇸

I've been riding and learning about horses for some 28 years now but know nothing about fox trotters and their gaits apart from what I see on screen. But horse is a horse, same applies. Loved it all; the pray bit, the faith bit, the no treat bit, the pressure - release/reward bit, the stroke/scratch reward bit, the energy projection bit, all perfect and as it should be. So good to see a trainer who understands how horse's mind works. Well done!

Wow! So interesting! Thank you for such a detailed video. I don't have a horse, but I've found from watching another trainer with similar methods that I can apply these principles to other animals, too! I'm so happy to see you doing exactly what God intended: teaching her to do your will with kindness and understanding. Some people don't understand that dominion is not a license to be cruel. It was great to see you using the railroad track as a training tool. When you don't have a fancy stable and top-of-the-line equipment, you get to be creative! 👍😊 It breaks my heart to know that other Foxtrotter trainers use chains to get the gaits. At least your breed doesn't allow showing in stacks and chains. The Big Lick is one of the worst ideas ever devised by horsemen.

What is the Big Lick ?
@karenduncan6004
@karenduncan6004 Жыл бұрын
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 I know it as a horrible style of showing Tennessee Walking Horses, still legal in TN. They use "stacks," which add height to the hoof, and loops of heavy chain to exaggerate the natural high action of the front legs. In training, corrosive substances may be put under the chains to cause pain and make the horse jerk it's feet higher to try to escape the hurt. This is "soring." It is illegal. There are inspectors at Big Lick shows to check for signs of soring. When the damage to the horse's feet gets too bad to be hidden from the inspectors, the horse often ends up in the slaughter pipeline. You really have to see the Big Lick to believe it. Search for Big Lick on the Horse Plus Humane Society channel. They are among the many campaigning to make the whole thing illegal, and often protest at shows.

How on earth is that still legal to do..how utterly cruel..god that must damage their legs badly..I've heard of the Big Lick through Fletcher Farms of Amarillo who are rescuing big Clydesdale horses and the humane society who go to autions and buy all the really poor horses and try and get them better or if they are too damaged do the last kind thing they can do for them..it saves them from the awful slaughter auctions and trip south..they must dose them up with pain relief at these auctions to just get some of them to move..at their last rescue a few weeks ago there was a beautiful white horse and one of her legs was broken !! They euthanized her there once they bought her because the pain she'd have been in for the journey back to the humane society base would have been horrific..it breaks my heart to see these beautiful animals treated so badly..and the Amish who are supposed to be god fearing people..they got one of their horses that was around 22 yrs old and still being used to work they could tell ny the recent sores on thr horse and she was BLIND..i will look up The Big Lick..no wonder this horse that JR has at the moment..Pearl is so damaged if thats how they've been treating her..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐎👏👍😭😭

What a wonderful way you have with horses, if only more people were like you! Such an interesting video, you can see she is nervous but will gain confidence with you. Sooo pretty.

I think the brushing/grooming helps the bonding process. She sure is pretty. Expressive eyes.

I wanted to cry when u mentioned the other trainer used chains to get her to do what was expected and his easy fix.Disgraceful and glad the owners got rid of him.I do not know what people are thinking when using bad methods that not only ruins the trust but hurt the horse mentally and promotes fear in them.l believe that with give and take with a reward as u showed in the video.I am so happy to be able to use some of what i can use on my horse and glad to learn more thank you.😊
