I appreciate that you calmly explained to us, the weight thing. So many people are just not educated in common sense. She's a beauty though. I love seeing her and all your other horses. I grew up with Shire horses. We just used them to pull wagons, from the apple orchard. And kids during fall festables. Lady, was like Beauty, she heated to stand still. My bff always said that she had ADD. But I worked with her and got her out of it. Lol, I really miss her. She was the last horse left, died last year. Kinda makes my heart sing to see happy horses again. Thank you for your hard work, and sharing your journey with us. And for the education, it's something so many people need.

I can't believe so many people commented on the weight limts when riding Classy. A true follower would know and understand that you are smart and experienced, and that the overall health and proper care of all those placed in your care, like your family, the land, and the animals, is top priority for you. Your tone of voice has just a slight note of frustration and annoyance when (defending) explaining the weight limits for a short distance vs long distance riding. You did such a great job of explaining the difference and you tried so hard not to show your true annoyance until you mentioned the "soap box" and I burst out laughing. JR, you cracked me up!!!! Hang in there!! ❤❤😂😂❤❤❤

Jr is basically doing the equine equivalent to weight training. If a young person trains lifting barbells they will increase their strength. Once the strength is there then the endurance can be worked on. But he also knows overdoing it an causing an injury could ruin an athlete's career or basic quality of life forever. The care of a farmer for his animals is definitely there.

I wasn't surprised... did you notice how she was moving her ears constantly the whole time JR was speaking... Beauty was Listening! She may not understand the words (or she may very well know some of the words), but I think it's JR's leadership... he is their pack leader and they all respect that and thrive under that type of emotional security. What a wonderful moment between animal and human. Hugs from an old gal in Canada.
@BetsyAmos2 күн бұрын
@MsJackster88 I still think Luna needs a chance to do some type of very light work, maybe on grass vs gravel. ( I know she has bad hooves) so I think it needs to be pretend work or exceedingly lite pulling of a small log ( possibly a stick, lol). I still maintain she may be a horse that is very WORK oriented or business-like. Possibly the way to her heart, is to let her WORK and praise her for that. It is ALL she knows. That might be her only sense of value. There are retriever dogs, who ONLY want to do what they were bred for.

Weight 20% rule....I raced my 1/2 quarter 1/2 arab gelding (looked more like a quarter horse) with western tack against full arabs in a competitive horse race (25 miles through country) at 280lbs (me and all tack) and placed 1st against them 4 different times that season. Of course, I started conditioning myself before the following season and was with tack at 200. So JR, you are absolutely right. Conditioning your horse makes all the difference. You know what you're doing, and you know your horse. As did I. I didn't see Classy dragging her feet, tripping up, or buckling over at all. Keep on keeping on. GOD BLESS YOU ALL ❤

@billiejogresham9357 Vet checked before during and after every race, and vet checked by my local vet prior to that. Even with my full arabian mare we raced 25 miles on a Saturday placed 1st, then raced the next day another 25 miles and received 1st place and best condition over all riders, including the endurance riders. A total of around 40 horses. Plus my gelding lived to be 29 years old.

I agree with JR on the weight issue. My own mare is 23 now, I have had her all her life. I am a bit over 20 percent. Her joints have never been an issue, the last time she was lame was because she got kicked by another horse. We don't do huge distances (I'm in my 70s), but we do still ride. And she definitely gets in shape faster than I do.

It's proportional, it isn't about weight. Although his MFT are able to carry him fine, we are used to seeing tall people have or use larer items. JR is sort of the size of some basketball players. They come ((usually) with really large feet and proportionally large shoes. They often have to have clothes made for them. One of the funniest sights ever, was watching Tommy Burleson Center for NCSU drive around the campus in an MG, BUT the front seat had been REMOVED and he STILL had crawl in & out of it like a spider. 😂
