I cannot even express how glad I am that you made this video! Some of my first and very favorite youtubers are now continuously posting these "live in fear, not in faith" videos, and it just makes me extremely sad. I have stopped watching them. I refuse to even call myself a homesteader these days because it gets me accused of being a prepper and I don't like what that implies. Do I prepare? yes, but not in that sense of the word. I grow and preserve my own meat and vegetables because it's what I love to do, and I've been doing it for pretty much 40 years for my family. I'm not a prepper. I'm not a homesteader. I am a Proverbs 31 woman...a keeper of my home. God bless you, God keep you, and prayers for all for an abundant, content, and joyful, faith filled life.

Totally agree!! I read a book years ago called Country Living and it goes into how God wants us out of the major cities and in country homes that resemble heaven. Using the example of Abraham, Enoch, Jesus and of course Eden the book shows that God’s blessing is out and amoungst nature. It seems that the loudest people promoting “exiting the cities” are fear mongering. I think we are meant to be in the country solely for character development as our Character will be the only thing, by God’s Grace, that we take to heaven with us. The term homesteader, like you mentioned, is sadly synonymous with prepper these days. I stopped watching doug & stacy years ago for their/his fear spreading. Even when living out in the country, which I do, it does not keep me, or anyone, from danger so we must not think that solar panels, pantries, canning or rain catchments systems will save us. As important and wise as they are, our salvation is not found in them.

I got vilified on the Doug and Stacey comments once just for quite innocent comment about not being afraid. That’s when I thought nope ain’t coming here no more. Im for positive not scare mongering, you only get one life,care for it and love it!

I keep up with all the crazy and fearful things going on in this country and the world to know the signs of the times, but i do not live in fear. I live by faith because I love the Lord. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
@sophia_megan9 ай бұрын
the fact that you homestead because its the sort of life you want to live and not because of a general disdain for society is what makes your channel so fun to watch. "scared people are easy to control" is such an important message, especially when a lot of the prepper mindset comes across as judgmental.
@searose61929 ай бұрын
I agree with your general point, but for many of us, doing what we can to ensure our family can ride out bumpy times is what makes us less fearful and less likely to be desperate enough to fall prey to control. I guess it depends on the person.
@Iluvchknz8 ай бұрын
@@searose6192but would you share with your neighbor? If you are preparing out of fear for self preservation you will always be afraid. I preserve, grow and have resources. I however also give it freely to family and friends. My success is their success.
@searose61928 ай бұрын
@@Iluvchknz Of course I will share it with those near to me who don’t threaten our well-being, why wouldn’t I? You need the most people at your back that you can get….. That doesn’t really relate to fear being a motivator for proper prepatory action, which in turn decreases the fear…because you are prepared.

I absolutely love y’all! And you are so right. Homesteading isn’t an escape from hardship. Fear isn’t a reason to homestead, or to become more self-sufficient. For us (and I’m sure y’all) as Christians, the more we work toward self-sufficiency, the more we’re reminded of the provision God has given to us from the creation of the world. The ability to put forth GOOD work, with what He’s given us, is an act of worship for us. Of course we’re still in the beginning steps of making these changes. Haha. Y’all are an encouragement to us, and where we CAN be in the future.

This is how I started my squash I ate last night. You talk about fear but one of the reasons I love your videos is because of trial and error and sharing what did and did not work. Thank you for this incredibly helpful and timely video. I found myself slipping into fear again recently. Honestly, I was then starting to become a "perfectionist bully" to myself and even those around me. I don't enjoy homesteading when I'm motivated by fear and even comparison to other homesteaders. I just get so hard on myself. Them sadly, hard on my kids and husband. Recently, I was able to share one of my snap pea seedlings with my friend. It felt so good to be in community and share. That's how my very small scale farmer mother raised me. To be very generous with the bounty you are growing. She was so generous, she had many people bring grown flowers out of the cuttings she'd given to others at her funeral. We did not even need a florist! God bless you all!! Truly, thank you! 💖

Hey guys!! I just found your channel a few days ago, and I can truly say I have enjoyed it so very much. To honestly be able to watch a normal family, homesteading the true and honest way. Learning as you go, and not being afraid of failure. You just get up dust off and try again. I am in the process of going back and watching your older videos. I am not a true homesteaders, but do raise a garden every year. We are truly honestly wanting to find some property to move on to start a true homestead. I want chickens, pigs and a milk cow. There is no time like the present to start with the state of this world is not getting any better. And I worry about my family especially my grand children I don’t want them to ever go hungry. My moon is 82 and she helps me in the garden we have right now. I want to expand it this year to have more growing space. Till we can get moved to a new property. Living in a trailer park is not the ides place to raise a great garden.

Taking one little snippet of a news article and portraying it as though "they are coming for you" has really disgusted me. Such a good reminder. It can be difficult to find the balance between trying to stay updated without starting to feel like the world is collapsing around us. I grow food for my family because I love this life. Focusing on the problems going on in the world robs me of my peace and starts to make me feel like I need to do more than I can manage.

We did a mini root cellar for our carrots and potatoes last fall and they are still going strong so I'm really excited to have a bigger one that's better set up! Watching this again after some months- and I am loving it again. I Live in a small farming community in drylands Brazil, and we have actually seen our farmers stop producing food for sale because it´s not worth it any more to plant for sale- and this is a region where no chemicals are used, so costs are relatively low, but labor is not..(They just plant for themeir families...) So we are more and more motivated to produce our own food- and besides, it is delicious! This is one of the main pleasures today for us. And... I am so glad Cody no longer has to go to work! PS- all the land and the knowhow is still here in the region, so the food potential is still there....

I understood your position regarding fear. My point of view is slightly different. I understand the challenges of the world and stay abreast of them. Not because of fear, but for leading indicators of what is coming. The sooner I can adjust, the better. With that being said, I don't do homesteading out of fear. Homesteading is my life. I could no longer live differently. And with that, we all must try to be as self-sufficient as much as possible because it is best for us, our families, and our environment. It really is a journey. Realistically, though, we cannot be truely self-sufficient. I do agree whole heartedly that we need others. Nobody can be truely self-sufficient and we all need help at some point. And you are correct that humans have evolved that way. The problem is that society is going in reverse on that issue. I couldn't even tell you the names of most of my neighbors. I barely get a glance when I wave at them. Some scowl at me because they know I am not a Trump fan. (I'm essentially non-partisan.) Oddly, these people rarely go outside. One neighbor laughed at me because of all the things I do. I didn't get angry; I felt sorrow for them. They are truly blind to life. There have been a few people that came to my home and they were mesmerized. I have created my own little world. No, I haven't created a paradise. Not even close and it nevers looks tidy. However, I can walk around my property, eating my way through it, while enjoying flowers, birds, bees, plants, and aromas. A few people "got it". There are very few other homesteaders in our area. I've tried connecting with them, but there appears to be a fear factor stopping them. I don't let it bother me because I have my homestead and life just keeps moving along. I treasure the opportunity to be outside in nature, working with it to feed us and to give me comfort. It is sometimes grueling work, but in the end it is always worth it. The alternative is not acceptable. I understand why you are removing the raspberries. Too bad you cannot barter with other homesteaders so surpluses can be swapped for items we don't have. My grandmother was half Haudenosaunee native American. She didn't say she was going shopping; she always said she was going trading. The thing is, we cannot grow or raise everything ourselves. Eventually we figure out how to do some things really good, while others learn how to grow or do other things really well. Trading surpluses gives us variety in our diets and lives and we learn to support each other. There is not a single household in my area where it is possible to trade surpluses. Again, people are imprisoned in their boxes. I could trade venison, chicken, wine, beer, liqueur, cordials, soap, fruit, berries, and corn for pork, lamb, cream, cheese, and beef. In antequity, farmers did trade goods and services. It helped them to survive and created a community. We need more communities. That will help to ease fear and to bring us back together. I see that you homeschool. That's good. I once was opposed to it. However, after being a substitute teacher for short time, I now support it. School systems are much different than they were in my generation. Your children will learn much more at home. With that being said, somehow they need a connection to society so they can interact with other people. All the best in life and for your journey home.

About fruit leather: invest in a Vitamix (or equivalent). Blitz your berries with apples (high pectin) and place in a dehydrator. Depending on your temp (lower temp = more time), you can consider that as almost raw. No added sugar needed. High power blender will fix your "seeds" problem. (or strain...)

I only found your videos a few months because I was watching lots of youtube stuff about horse training and permaculture and growing your own food. I was really impressed by you both, you’re young and full of enthusiasm which is lovely see. Myself and my husband when he’s home are trying to get a piece of our land ready to plant up, we’re building a dead hedge to keep the neighbouring farmers sheep out first, we live in North Wales and the sheep here have this burning desire to escape their fields then eat everything in their path as they go to the mountains. So I’m watching and learning so I can put it in to practise soon. Keep up the good work. X

So true. That's why the Amish are great farmers and self sufficient. They stick together with great community. Homesteading can get a bit lonely sometimes. Keep in touch with your like minded friends.

I LOVED this video! Thank you for your common sense, down to earth approach! Taking a deep breath and just enjoying the process of whatever path we’ve chosen to take is the best bet! Personally, I think the best plan is to coordinate with friends in your community and each producing what we are gifted with…and our land blesses us with…in abundance…and trading with each other!

Thanks for another great video. We can't control the insanity that's going on out in the world, but we can create our own peaceful world. Gardening keeps me grounded and focused on the things that are important to me and what's important in my life.

Really nice to hear this message. I've come across so much fear-mongering in the homesteading community, and I've been trying to avoid that as much as possible. Nice to know this channel is safe from that.

This was such a comforting message for me. I've been wanting to homestead for a few years now and life has finally lined up to make it possible. With my first steps just around the corner your advice at the end is perfect ❤ I'm gonna start by moving the RV onto my land, buying 3 chicks and planting a few things to see how they do. As I meet success or failure, I know I'm gonna be ok and learn from it for the next year 😊

Thank you for this video. Fear can lead to all the things you talked about. Our country needs to stay away for those who cause us fear and do what we all know is right. Then, we’ll all be fine. Together. So much more of this is needed by so many more people. Thank you again

I love all your content! You give great ideas and insight on what you do and why you do it. It inspires me to step away from distractions, go outside and start doing something in the garden, which was small but I got it in this year. I have been making plans for next year's growing food for my family, and you have given me ideas on what I can do and improve on for next year.

Love watching you two grow....I agree ....being self sustained is a positive thought process. Learn as you go. Share the knowledge and try! Fear will stop the process of growing...do what you can when you can. I also preserve and grow my own food have for over 40 years and will continue till I cant. God bless you all!

Beautiful words. Exactly what the world needs to hear right now. I actually started watching your channel because of a book I am writing,with no intention of homesteading myself! but within 3 months my husband and I have cleared a space on our acre lot and begun building raised beds. It will take some time but we are excited for the journey.

Great message, and one that is SO needed right now! I come to my land and my garden for nurturance, and it's so good for that. Fear has no place on a homestead, as animals and humans are all affected by it. Thank you for a beautiful message.💕

You asked us to tell you what we thought if todays video, here it is. Well done. The timing of the content was perfect, hapiness report and very sad news of ill informed and unfortunate people trying to go off grid without adequate preparation...this was a brilliant response to such incredibly sad news. Injected in your message is both hope and grace in our dreams and shortcomings. This was by far my favorite video of yours, not just because of the messages, but also the production. Music was on point, segments were well seamed together, im gushing. But i really liked it and i hope you do more like it. And im enjoying the longer content too. 😉

Cody❤Michelle, this video is the reason why you are so loved! Nothing is easy in this world. There must be a plan to make your dream come true. There will be good days and bad days. The most important thing is to "learn" from your mistakes and enhance what went well. I live in the country. I have built a smaller version of a homestead. I have seen many videos of homesteading. I learned from many. Your videos are the closest to my lifestyle minus the livestocks. There are farmers and homesteaders who live within one hour from where I live. I am sure they are grateful for me giving them business; I am more grateful because I buy from them and keep them in business. It is not about the cost, rather the nutritional value of the goods.

I love your honest assessment. Some channels make it sound like a perfect bubble protected from the outside world…I grew up on a farm and we raised almost all our own food and it was tons of work but also rewarding… never really felt disconnected from the world m, though. Love your content!!!
