I cannot even express how glad I am that you made this video! Some of my first and very favorite youtubers are now continuously posting these "live in fear, not in faith" videos, and it just makes me extremely sad. I have stopped watching them. I refuse to even call myself a homesteader these days because it gets me accused of being a prepper and I don't like what that implies. Do I prepare? yes, but not in that sense of the word. I grow and preserve my own meat and vegetables because it's what I love to do, and I've been doing it for pretty much 40 years for my family. I'm not a prepper. I'm not a homesteader. I am a Proverbs 31 woman...a keeper of my home. God bless you, God keep you, and prayers for all for an abundant, content, and joyful, faith filled life.

Totally agree!! I read a book years ago called Country Living and it goes into how God wants us out of the major cities and in country homes that resemble heaven. Using the example of Abraham, Enoch, Jesus and of course Eden the book shows that God’s blessing is out and amoungst nature. It seems that the loudest people promoting “exiting the cities” are fear mongering. I think we are meant to be in the country solely for character development as our Character will be the only thing, by God’s Grace, that we take to heaven with us. The term homesteader, like you mentioned, is sadly synonymous with prepper these days. I stopped watching doug & stacy years ago for their/his fear spreading. Even when living out in the country, which I do, it does not keep me, or anyone, from danger so we must not think that solar panels, pantries, canning or rain catchments systems will save us. As important and wise as they are, our salvation is not found in them.

I keep up with all the crazy and fearful things going on in this country and the world to know the signs of the times, but i do not live in fear. I live by faith because I love the Lord. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

the fact that you homestead because its the sort of life you want to live and not because of a general disdain for society is what makes your channel so fun to watch. "scared people are easy to control" is such an important message, especially when a lot of the prepper mindset comes across as judgmental.

I agree with your general point, but for many of us, doing what we can to ensure our family can ride out bumpy times is what makes us less fearful and less likely to be desperate enough to fall prey to control. I guess it depends on the person.

@@searose6192but would you share with your neighbor? If you are preparing out of fear for self preservation you will always be afraid. I preserve, grow and have resources. I however also give it freely to family and friends. My success is their success.

@@Iluvchknz Of course I will share it with those near to me who don’t threaten our well-being, why wouldn’t I? You need the most people at your back that you can get….. That doesn’t really relate to fear being a motivator for proper prepatory action, which in turn decreases the fear…because you are prepared.

You got that right! Ive been spending many many hours putting up corner posts for a garden fence, and its expensive! Why does fencing material have to be so stupidly expensive! About half done with the corner posts after a week and hopefully i won't have to buy more stuff to get the fence done. But its gotta get done or the deer will eat everything.

I absolutely love y’all! And you are so right. Homesteading isn’t an escape from hardship. Fear isn’t a reason to homestead, or to become more self-sufficient. For us (and I’m sure y’all) as Christians, the more we work toward self-sufficiency, the more we’re reminded of the provision God has given to us from the creation of the world. The ability to put forth GOOD work, with what He’s given us, is an act of worship for us. Of course we’re still in the beginning steps of making these changes. Haha. Y’all are an encouragement to us, and where we CAN be in the future.

I'm so glad you did this video, it's funny last night I cut up a few delicata squash for our dinner and it occurred to me how many people complain about the cost of organic food, yet if they were to buy 1 delicata squash they would have 100 plus seeds they could use to grow their own! This is how I started my squash I ate last night. You talk about fear but one of the reasons I love your videos is because of trial and error and sharing what did and did not work. I think your brave to share it all. You are one of my favorite youtube channels.

Such a good reminder. It can be difficult to find the balance between trying to stay updated without starting to feel like the world is collapsing around us. Thank you for this incredibly helpful and timely video. I found myself slipping into fear again recently. Honestly, I was then starting to become a "perfectionist bully" to myself and even those around me. I don't enjoy homesteading when I'm motivated by fear and even comparison to other homesteaders. I just get so hard on myself. Them sadly, hard on my kids and husband. Recently, I was able to share one of my snap pea seedlings with my friend. It felt so good to be in community and share. That's how my very small scale farmer mother raised me. To be very generous with the bounty you are growing. She was so generous, she had many people bring grown flowers out of the cuttings she'd given to others at her funeral. We did not even need a florist! God bless you all!! Truly, thank you! 💖

Hey guys!! I just found your channel a few days ago, and I can truly say I have enjoyed it so very much. To honestly be able to watch a normal family, homesteading the true and honest way. Learning as you go, and not being afraid of failure. You just get up dust off and try again. I am in the process of going back and watching your older videos. I am not a true homesteaders, but do raise a garden every year. We are truly honestly wanting to find some property to move on to start a true homestead. I want chickens, pigs and a milk cow. There is no time like the present to start with the state of this world is not getting any better. And I worry about my family especially my grand children I don’t want them to ever go hungry. My moon is 82 and she helps me in the garden we have right now. I want to expand it this year to have more growing space. Till we can get moved to a new property. Living in a trailer park is not the ides place to raise a great garden.

I only found your videos a few months because I was watching lots of youtube stuff about horse training and permaculture and growing your own food. I was really impressed by you both, you’re young and full of enthusiasm which is lovely see. Myself and my husband when he’s home are trying to get a piece of our land ready to plant up, we’re building a dead hedge to keep the neighbouring farmers sheep out first, we live in North Wales and the sheep here have this burning desire to escape their fields then eat everything in their path as they go to the mountains. So I’m watching and learning so I can put it in to practise soon. Keep up the good work. X

Homesteading won't make anyone immune to chaos, but done right, it will slow down our vulnerability. What we need to achieve a higher level of resilience in the face of chaos is an overall population level of typical homesteader self-sufficiency. A whole nation that isn't worried where their next year's supply of food, water, and electricity is coming from because every household has got that sorted on their own land ... that's a nation that is very hard to make panic. Panicking people who don't know how to sustain themselves except by taking from others are the real threat in times of chaos. Anything we can do to armour our neighbours against panic, we should - and when "neighbour" is anyone who could reach our home in a couple of days' driving with a good stash of fuel cans, that starts to mean our whole nation. Homesteading is step one. Teaching everyone else how to grow their own food and harvest their own electricity and water is step two. Thank you for being part of step two.

I understood your position regarding fear. My point of view is slightly different. I understand the challenges of the world and stay abreast of them. Not because of fear, but for leading indicators of what is coming. The sooner I can adjust, the better. With that being said, I don't do homesteading out of fear. Homesteading is my life. I could no longer live differently. And with that, we all must try to be as self-sufficient as much as possible because it is best for us, our families, and our environment. It really is a journey. Realistically, though, we cannot be truely self-sufficient. I do agree whole heartedly that we need others. Nobody can be truely self-sufficient and we all need help at some point. And you are correct that humans have evolved that way. The problem is that society is going in reverse on that issue. I couldn't even tell you the names of most of my neighbors. I barely get a glance when I wave at them. Some scowl at me because they know I am not a Trump fan. (I'm essentially non-partisan.) Oddly, these people rarely go outside. One neighbor laughed at me because of all the things I do. I didn't get angry; I felt sorrow for them. They are truly blind to life. There have been a few people that came to my home and they were mesmerized. I have created my own little world. No, I haven't created a paradise. Not even close and it nevers looks tidy. However, I can walk around my property, eating my way through it, while enjoying flowers, birds, bees, plants, and aromas. A few people "got it". There are very few other homesteaders in our area. I've tried connecting with them, but there appears to be a fear factor stopping them. I don't let it bother me because I have my homestead and life just keeps moving along. I treasure the opportunity to be outside in nature, working with it to feed us and to give me comfort. It is sometimes grueling work, but in the end it is always worth it. The alternative is not acceptable. I understand why you are removing the raspberries. Too bad you cannot barter with other homesteaders so surpluses can be swapped for items we don't have. My grandmother was half Haudenosaunee native American. She didn't say she was going shopping; she always said she was going trading. The thing is, we cannot grow or raise everything ourselves. Eventually we figure out how to do some things really good, while others learn how to grow or do other things really well. Trading surpluses gives us variety in our diets and lives and we learn to support each other. There is not a single household in my area where it is possible to trade surpluses. Again, people are imprisoned in their boxes. I could trade venison, chicken, wine, beer, liqueur, cordials, soap, fruit, berries, and corn for pork, lamb, cream, cheese, and beef. In antequity, farmers did trade goods and services. It helped them to survive and created a community. We need more communities. That will help to ease fear and to bring us back together. I see that you homeschool. That's good. I once was opposed to it. However, after being a substitute teacher for short time, I now support it. School systems are much different than they were in my generation. Your children will learn much more at home. With that being said, somehow they need a connection to society so they can interact with other people. All the best in life and for your journey home.

I love your honest assessment. Some channels make it sound like a perfect bubble protected from the outside world…I grew up on a farm and we raised almost all our own food and it was tons of work but also rewarding… never really felt disconnected from the world m, though. Love your content!!!

I really love how much I learn from you both. I used to watch several other homesteaders that I was learning from that turned their channel into fear and world events and hurry up and prep and hoard food and don't help friends and family if the world falls around them and they didn't prep. I've found myself being really angry and upset so I've started pulling back from certain topics and unsubscring to focus on eating healthier and learning as much as a I can to be more self sufficient. We just put 200 lbs of beef in the freezer, I've got soup bones to process and a ton of suet to make tallow I've got plenty to keep me busy!I've been canning a ton, and cooking from scratch with almost everything. We are so lucky to know other farmers and we help each other. We provide the hay and we get meat and veggies from trades of hay and my husband being a mechanic. I have the same thing happening to my butternut so this is a great idea of roasting them in the oven and letting them in the freezer. Added to my to-do list for the coming week. We have a 4 old who rides the tractor to make hay and she helps me cook. I hope these skills help her someday. Hard work, eating better, being a self sufficient as you can. Thank you both for being real. God bless.

What you're saying about fear is so relevant. I watched a lot of those videos in 2020 trying to find out what the heck was going on. I also needed to deal with some deep, generational fears about scarcity. It surfaced with all of the empty shelves in March of 2020. I followed a long time dream to learn canning and start a large garden in my back yard. As time passed and I started seeing and hearing patterns in the videos that were leading to fear, I began to detach from consuming that information. It took time. I feel many of those vloggers have learned psychological marketing. It's made them a lot of money, for sure. I have a hard time resenting them for it because that's what we are free to do in America. I do find it distasteful and feel much sadness seeing some people I love in pain because of their fear. I do my best to be gentle with them, as you did in this video. It's important to know some facts but when I watch something and start to recognize that fear and anxiety, I shut it off and go out to the garden. It's good that we, as a society, begin to be more self-sustaining in food production, preparation and learning skills that will help us in life, as well as disaster. History repeats itself. It's feast or famine throughout the centuries. Building a community of resilience is wise. Thank you for sharing what you learn, wins and losses, it's all beneficial; but sharing a word about how fear controls us and to be wise to the use of it is pure love wisdom you're giving us. Blessings now and always.

I have been enjoying your videos and decided to comment today. I am glad you shared the message today about all the fear being spread everywhere. Very good advice, enjoy the life. It seems everything has to be fast and complicated anymore. Living slower is much more satisfying. Seems kind of ironic saying slow down in the spring, but I think you understand what I am trying to say. Thank You

Idea. Take your raspberries and strawberries and place in bowl. Put 1" of water in pressure cooker, place stand in to keep bowl off bottom. Pressure cook for 30 minutes for test. If pressure cooker softens bones why wouldn't it soften raspberry seeds? Let us know if you try it and the results. Butch in Idaho.

I am so proud of you two! Please don't take that in a condescending way, I mean it in the most admirable sense. You are both so young but so wise. Fear can be deliberating and there are those who pray on that and it actually makes me fear for them! If we can all just step back and look at our lives without these outside influences, I think we'd all be better off. Thank you for speaking up. We are ALL in this together and we can ALL help each other to be healthier people: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. On a side note, if I didn't live more than 2 hours away, I'd volunteer to pick all the extra raspberries. Of course, I'd eat most of what I picked 🤭😘.
