Thank you , what Casimir is doing is amazing. I see old homesteads all the time with old trees. Wish I would have thought about doing this before my grandparents homestead was sold and the old cherry tree was destroyed Be safe !

Josh & Casimir, thanks so MUCH for this! I have my first 40 loads of wood chips on my land (the first of what will be a lot more) that've been composting from 1 and 1/2 to 2 years this early May. I'm on a flat part of central Delaware (Zone 7B) and have been taking temp measurements of the piles with a probe, recording wind & rain, etc for 3 years and am ready to start a permaculture Eden with nuts, fruit, vine & shrub foods and raised planter boxes for annual veggies. Fingers crossed, sending up prayers and hoping for the best. Be well, guys! - S.

Great information! I have tried a "postage stamp" orchard twice with no luck. But I would love for him to come back or for you to talk about how to maintain your trees when it comes to pests. I also really enjoyed your video on pruning. Everyone around here gets real nervous when I go after the trees. But they always look so much better and are much healthier!

Good information., this man seems pretty knowledgeable! It is great to have food that is somewhat easier than a vegetable garden. However, there is a lot more work to keeping a home orchard than just planting the tree and then walking out and picking fruit! Pruning, thinning and spraying for bugs and diseases(depending on your location and how buggy you want your fruit to be) are pretty big chores, especially when you have several different types of fruit. They must be handled differently.

I espalier apples & cherry trees. So I can reach them. Paul from Back to Eden has old Apple trees he pruned out the center so it would grow out - amazing the fruit it produces

My property came with wild cherries choke and pin. Have a lot of service berries with long lives roots. We have 15 kinds of wild berries. I am in the central U.P. so I like mm 111 and m 26. I like the more vigorous root stocks. I like ugly heirloom triploid apples. Pollinator trees was a big concern.

I would love to hear more of Casimir's wisdom. I planted a small diverse orchard a few years ago (various species of apples, pears, peaches, cherries, walnuts, etc) and we're JUST starting to get some fruit yield from them. We're having some issues with deer eating the new buds though, and Japanese beetles destroying our cherry trees and I'd like to know what he does to deal with those types of issues. I'd also like to hear from Casimir about his thoughts on planting grapes, nut trees, and paw paws. We live in zone 8 (central New Hampshire) so our growing season is a little shorter and certain things (like figs) don't do well here.

I have figs, bing cherries, apples, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries & blueberries. I want pomegranate & pear trees. Really wish I could grow lemon trees. Could if I brought them indoors

I'm turning my underground pool into 'My Amazing GreenPlayHouse' ...surrounded with cob walls with colored windows made from glass dinner plates, water fountain in the 3 deep section, a slide to the bottom where I want fruit trees in the 9ft deep so the tree will be at eye level when walking around the pool ...a water filtration using charcoal and rocks for some micro greens...some hammocks and fireplace ...maybe even some fish for my kitties dinner! ...that's my vision! ;D I've got pawpaw trees, a Mulberry tree, wild strawberries and all kinds of mushrooms popping up and taking root naturally on my property ~my *Down to Earth Palazoo* ;D Anywho, thanks again...you all inspire me! Since we are on the topic of perennial fruits. What does your guest know about "Growing Degree Days"? my research is showing that the growth and production of trees depends, not on how cold your winter gets but, on how much heat your growing season gets. Of course, there is a minimum temperature a tree can withstand.

Question- Have you heard of driving a long nail into a trunk of a tree that has stopped producing? My mothers plum tree produced all my chilhood yearly, and then after about 10 years it just stopped and never had fruit or flowers again. Its a healthy tree, just not producing

Could you install a temporary hoop house to plant trees in zone 5 in the fall then take the hoop house down mid spring? By hoop house I mean like the one you crafted out of cattle panel. My thinking is that you can get a six month jump on things while still protecting the young trees during that first winter by creating a faux climate. I get that you may have to harden the trees during the hoop house dismantling period.

Awesome info! Would love more. Have been concerned about planting fruit trees because of all the spraying involved with pest control. Are there really any organic controls that actually work? This will be my first year of no herbicides and don't want to instead be spraying pesticides😏

We're in zone 5b, in arid front range of southern Colorado. When would be the best month to get bare root apple trees planted? Do we wait until there is no snow on the ground, last frost date etc?

What about planting design & situation? Exposures ... I have an acre I want to make an orchard. He did say tuck in the gooseberries... do another vid with tips on placement, companion tree ? Is there such a thing like w veg ? Are there herbs that are beneficial to grow with the trees ? Plus - I have honey bee hives on that acre: Cas mentioned planting for 90 day blueberry harvesting- Are there trees that can accommodate ( with the flowers ) my bees progressively ? Sorry. I might be wrong but, I think Josh's point was that normal precautions, such as you would take with the flu, should be taken to protect vulnerable elderly and immune compromised individuals. The violence, hoarding and fear mongering is unwarranted. Be careful not fearful. Stay safe, you and yours.

just an fyi; flu death rate in 2019 was .09 of the people who were infected died. In Italy right now people over 80 are at 14%. world wide 3.4% have died. If you have not cancelled your and your wife's travel plans please do so. I am a commercial insurance adjuster and have talked to businesses in CA and the situation is not good. I personally rescheduled my trip to Florida.

Tracy you say flu death rate in 2019 was .09 of people infected. Then you say of the people over 80, 14% are dying. You are not comparing apples with apples and this is why Josh says to get the facts right first. To do a proper comparison you need to find out how many over 80's got the flu in 2019 and then find out how many of them died to see what the % is. Only then can you tell people to put off their holiday or advise them accordingly.
