Me too, you don't have to be a mason to do this method..... just heavy labour.

You two (& wiener dogs) are making good headway, well done. Typically, I screw short screws into the the sides of the form boards to locate the vertical rebar locations. Bend a short 90 leg on the ends to hook under one of the horizontal rebar and after the concrete has been screed off, drop in the verticals in and rotate them 90 degrees.

Hi Ian an julie . This new foundation and block wall on the house side is starting to look good slowly get back into the wall building. I liked the drone shot from down the field and looking back at house workshop /garage and all your plot gives a real view of everything where its all going . The shots from the drone of the panoramic area of the valley was nice as it shows a lot of where you live its really nice country side

I noticed you using a framing square and I was wondering if you have ever tried the old… 3-4-5 or 6-8-10 triangle with the tape measure. Very handy for layout. Or my personal favourite. I like to use the trigonometry function of my construction master calculator…
@HomesteadingUncontained7 ай бұрын
We use the 3 - 4 -5 for layout but this was a small 90º for the corner blocks which only return 1 metre. I do like Pythagorus 📐

Respirator for friction cutting cement stone products - the dust causes silicosis - essentially lung cancer the same way that asbestos fibres does. My old man died from Oesophageal (throat) cancer & it’s not at all a nice way to die, take it from me. With your mortar, when you’re mixing it, add a capful of dish washing liquid to each mix. It aerates the mortar which makes tapping the blocks down to string level very easy, compared to no aeration. Also, sit each block in a bucket of water before you lay it onto the mortar bed, so that it’s saturated. If you lay the blocks dry, they soak the water out of the mortar making it hard & harder to tap the blocks down to string level. Hope that helps. 👍👍👍🇦🇺

Cheers for the advice - I know I need to breathing protection, I was trying to hold my breath 😬 - good tips not he mortar - I will do this for the next stage as it is not as deep a bed (I might even have to trim a couple of blocks)

Hi Ian & Julie just a question why don’t you put the cement mixer over the hole that you’re going to mix? Cementing? Save you having to do all that you’re still partner in but we buckets sand gravel and much more handy for us
@HomesteadingUncontained7 ай бұрын
The sand and gravel is in the trailer which we can't get down the slope so it is easier to move the mixed concrete. I wish I could get it down there. 😀
@whathasxgottodowithit3919.7 ай бұрын
Good job, when will it start to warm up? like 20-21. Like any Block System it is a little slow setting up. however it moves along quite well when you get going.
@HomesteadingUncontained7 ай бұрын
It should be warming up now, but we have a cold spell then it will be wet in April - yes, the blocks will fly up now.

It will be fine. You not putting a lot of load on it right now. Typically it will take up to 30 days to get fully cured to get maximum strength.
