Same here in Hungary, I was away for 2 weeks, takes me 2 days to clean up. It's scorching here, I can work outside from 6 ~ 10 am and 6 ~ 9 pm when it gets dark, during the day it's just too hot to be outside.

Welcome back! It's a very ambitious schedule but will provide a lot of good content to watch. We built an oak-frame post and beam home in 1990. After the frame was erected, we enclosed it completely with stress-skin-panels, what you called SIPs, side walls and roof. Our house is basically an 'ice chest' with windows and doors, but so easy to heat in upstate New York You should be very happy with them.

That is what we are aiming for - a coolbox house with good ventilation

Thank you both for keeping me entertained in my retirement. You did mention that you have discarded the idea of containers and were lookin g for idea/suggestion of Companies who specialise houses you are looking for. I remember three or four years ago watching on You Tube, somebody reviewing a company in Germany, Called "HUF HAUS". The house he reviewed was magnificent. It is planned with the owners, made in the factory, loaded on to low loaders in pieces, arrives on site, with a crew who erects it 3 or four days. I would imagine its madly expensive??? Just an Idea!!!
@HomesteadingUncontained2 ай бұрын
Thank you - we are looking at SIPs panels now for the house which is basically designed and built in the factory and then shipped to site - it is the frame only but fully insulated and the structure is up in a week. Similar to Hauf house but not to that finished spec.

I just see a comment below in the air conditioner. Plenty of of low power ones about for camper vans. But I see on KZbin videos on how to improve air circulation and creating draft etc to cool buildings down. And as u are insulating well and hopeful external sitters on the windows the house will be easy to keep cool. That is crazy growth for a few weeks. One thing I would advise is doing ur digging in the summer months and doing foundation as well if u can. With what meter all the soil just turns into muck. And when the larger machine is there dig the drains u talked about with it. So much faster and u can do the levels to ensure good run of with a laser level during the digging. Makes the job easier.

Ian that hill /high ground faces south if you keep your eye out & try & find a old freezer room of a truck. You don't need the freezer unit. We have found down here in New Zealand that to improve & extend our growing period we will have to bury Polly panel 2 meters into the ground to stop heat leach into the surrounding soil. The freezer room would be cheep efficient & using digital lighting you could run it all winter. House plans There has been a few lives lost down here when polystyrene & it's derivatives catch's fire , soya based seems to be the buzzz word BUT DO THE FIRE TEST how quick does it burn, how bad is the smoke etc Being a X hello sailor I'm sure this problem came up years ago so Yes I'm telling you how to suck eggs Kiwi Rod

Welcome back it is great to have my Monday morning coffee break back watching you both. It is good to see Julie back to health. Do the dogs travel with you and how do they cope? I suggest you both watch a short video on a channel called Easy Business on you Tube. The video came out about 10 days ago and is titled landscape business machines. See if you recognise the bloke at 6.50. Following and liking from Australia.

That is a good start on your white board. You left one needed item off your list. You will need to get a much larger white board installed. A second thought is you might want to buy the shipping containers now so you have a place to start storing house parts. later you can move them to the permanent locations. In my builds I am annoyed that I come across bargain materials or unpredictable lead times but am not ready to install so I dont buy.
@HomesteadingUncontained3 ай бұрын
haha, we are ticking them off now.

Hi . The problem with the bank that you said would be more difficult with a strimmer . What you need is get a couple of pigs they will get rid of the vines and any small saplings and totally clean out the are . The other animals you could get are goats and sheep as they graze the grass right down and one big shipping container could be split 50/50 for shelter for goats sheep but any areas that real clearinb out get a ouple of pigs all you need is put round an electric fence for stock just put in cohpleof solar panels to battery storage mount a sun tracker on a scaffolding pole . Once your bank is clear then put garden geo down cover with thick bark no need to cut and wee pigs can be nice bacon and chops loints ect. With you away for 5 weeks you see some sun an heat plus rain and mother nature does the rest .
@HomesteadingUncontained4 ай бұрын
That is the plan - but until we get on site more permanently we can't have livestock - well we could but it would not be fair on them. No goats I am afraid but pigs and sheep are on the plan.

Looks like you had a fun but exhausting trip. Very pretty place to be in though. I'm still not able to get anything done here as summer is still in full force in Texas. Maybe after tomorrows 108* we will start tapering off the temps but we won't even see 100* highs for over a week. And lows that barely hit 80* as the sun is coming up. I really envy anyone that lives in a nicer climate than ours. Not enough air conditioning in the shop. I want to be comfortable and enjoy working on stuff. I'm not suffering in the heat anymore unless I'm getting paid for it. Hopefully by the time we get back from vacation in early october it will start cooling down and I can get some progress done but it gets to the point where you get so beat down by the weather you can't find the motivation to start up again. I'll give you a tip on the hand cleaning.... I grab the better halfs partially empty makeup remover wipes. If they can take that make up off with whatever stuff is in that it'll take grease and oil off your hands and face. Jealous of the white board... I wish my hand writing was half that good.. As for the minisplit... Send me an email at my YT channel name. I have been working on a long video on what to choose and why etc. Lots of things to consider that most don't think of. Good choice on having the sips done. Here in the US they are git or miss and many of them don't go together well and require lots of rework to make them fit.

I think I have found the perfect mini split with a pre charged DIY pipe set - hoping to get it in soon.

@@HomesteadingUncontained Good choice. I was going to do some looking to see what was available in France but didn't get around to it. There are versions that have direct solar panel input to the unit and can run partially or fully off solar with nothing but panels no other boxes needed. I have the HVAC tools so for me the quick connects are handy but not worth the extra cost. We are headed back to Greece the end of next month and hopefully I can get out to the tool stores and supply stores as I like to see what's available in other countries.
