Good evening Tessie, I like what you said, that it doesn't matter how old you are on getting out of debt. I'm 63 years old, been through cancer and heal through the power of Jesus Christ. Feel so good that I decided to take a 2nd job to pay off my debt. And Lord willing looking to down size and possibly not have a mortgage.

I think this is one of your best videos yet. My belief is that a key to spending less is to just pay attention to all of the little things that drain away our wealth. If we do that well, most of the bigger things will take care of themselves.

I suggest paying off the card with the highest interest rate, first. Use cotton towels and china plates instead of buying paper towels and paper plates. The only debt we have is our mortgage. I pay my credit cards off every month. "I get a high from saving money like I used to get a high from spending money." I love it! 👍👍👍 Great video, Tessie. God bless. 💜✝

Agree. If you carry credit card debt tackle the one with the highest interest rate first and on down the line. I also pay my cards off every month because I refuse to waste money on finance charges. Paper plates, napkins and towels are for emergencies and special occasions. I’m definitely someone whose happiness comes from saving money rather than spending it!

They say to pay the card with the lowest balance first because you can accomplish this faster (then cut ut up/cancel it) then move on to the next one.
@witchofthewildwoods3496
@witchofthewildwoods3496 2 жыл бұрын
That strategy (paying off the lowest balance first) helps psychologically but every point counts if there’s a disparity among interest rates. Often credit cards carry a higher monthly finance charge than the minimum payment required, and that fee gets compounded so the balance gets increasingly higher even if the card is no longer being used. It feels criminal.

I am receiving Social Security, which just turned over from Disability, and nothing else. I have a car loan because I could not afford to pay cash when the car died. It's heartbreaking to see all of the things going on around at home and around the world. I still donate what I am able. I give money to money each month to St. Jude's and I just donated to Freedom Bakeries for starving children in Yemen. Not looking for accolades ... I know not everyone can do this, but the Lord directs us to do what we can. 🙏💜🙏

Hi Owen. It really was a great video, and a good reminder to those who have slipped a little. I'm way over budget in buying preps but feel like I need to get them now, with prices, insanely, going up. This week, I received a second solar panel and a Mr. Heater Buddy, in case Florida gets a surprise snow storm, like Texas did last year. A 2-pack of propane has gone from $5 to almost $10.😲 Glad I already had a bunch. Not sure how many I have but feel I need more as some are for our Coleman stove. Have a very nice evening, my friend. God bless. 🤗💗

I've been filling my gas tank up and only drive too pick up my check and pay my bills in one trip only. And walking too the store with little groceries cart. I've been using all my all clothes for cleaning clothes and cut the microfiber clothes into 2 swifter dust and mop heads witch costs $1.09 verses $8.00. Plus I buy $.25 t-shirts for cleaning clothes and paper towels replacement. And I have plastic meal basket and bought a 500 count box of dry wax paper sheets too lining them and my camping plates for times not wash anything. And sew shopping bags out unused shirts.

Such wisdom. Iblook back on the hard times and i thank God for his goodness and being there to help guide and direct. I had family and friends that would pray and support and give godly advice. I would not want to go be in those places again either but i would not trade alll the wisdom and understanding tht God taught me theough those trials. Whether they had been because i had made poor decisions or just because of things that came my way. I love my life now. We make half of what we did when i was working. We do not spend at all what we used to but... We have more. We have more time for each other, for are children and especially God. We fauthfully are going to church where we weren't always before. What is of value and importance to us is greater then things. I have been where you are talking and you know what i continue now to be frugal and yes pick up things people are throwing out refurbish, use. There is nothing wrong in it. Some of the nicest things i have were free. God takes care of us no matter what. Its are we willing to except. God bless you Tessie. It was good to see you Saturday!

We are debt free & super frugal. I am in my 3rd year of no-buy/low-buy. I would LOVE to quit my very stressful job and pursue other things, but as the sole income earner in a low-income household, it is just is not possible. Currently I only spend on utilities, groceries, insurance, car insurance & fuel and property tax. We thrift for our clothing needs. Even our furniture & car are second hand. We do not eat out or buy take away or "to go" coffee, we have no TV, no subscriptions, no memberships. I don't buy home decor or candles or any of the rest of that. We don't spend on entertainment or tech. We don't spend on beauty (no salons, nails, makeup, etc). Clothing is thrifted only when needed. We are already cut to the bone..... We grow our own veggies (4 month growing season). We eat super simple & basic. Sadly, groceries are very expressive here (my biggest single expense). We have only 1 grocery store in our rural area. I have watched so many videos like yours, but they don't go far enough. I have been doing all these things for many years. I need next level advice. I'm not sure where to go from here.....

Tessie, very good topic and lots of good information. I have never been a shopper - hated malls, but did buy things. I do what you do on Amazon. I put things on a list that interest me (maybe from a yt video) and wait. If I still want it in a few days or even weeks, then I get it. Advertising is to make us WANT things that we do not NEED. It is okay to get some wants, but our culture is out of control when we spend thousands on a babies first birthday which they will not remember (before the age of 3 not) I grew up in a family that was okay financially. But, we never asked our parents for anything. They provided for our needs and it was their job to help us become responsible and healthy adults - but not to teach us to get everything we saw on tv (which I didn't have until about 4th grade) or to throw a fit if we couldn't have something. In my more prosperous community, my age group was expected to do chores and to work in the summers to help pay for college. So, in that day, parents who had more money actually worked at teaching their children that things are not just free. They are earned.

Anytime one wants to make positive change one needs to be prepared for the naysayers. Doesn't matter if it's getting out of debt, stopping an unhealthy habit like smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling. Or becoming vegetarian or vegan/plant based and cutting out animal products. When striving to get out of debt, if you have had a habit of going out to eat, going shopping, vacations, even holiday gift giving, and you change your ways, some people may be upset. But it is NOT about you. It may be because they realize they need to change but are scared to do so. BUT...if family and friends know this is important to you they will do all they can to be supportive!! .And the naysayers will be looking to see how you do. Do you make needed change look like punishment or do you approach it like a fun adventure? Tessie makes change a fun adventure. Something you want to try..

We saved for the things we wanted. We really had a lot of things to look forward to. As an adult, I discovered credit cards and that was horrible. Listening to family members who knew nothing about handling money. Learned some tough lessons about paying them off. My struggle is wanting to buy junk food and fast food too. I have made a conscious decision to stop eating at fast food restaurants. I need to pray for strength each day but I get through it one day at a time.

This is a much needed and appreciated video. I retired from work with some debt, so half of my pension goes to repayment of that debt. However, I've found myself going through a revolving door with my credit card. I pay it off and end up maxing it out again. This time I'm determined to pay it off and not use it except for a real emergency. I cook almost everyday and hardly ever eat out and I don't need any more clothing so you have just empowered and encouraged me in unimaginable ways. Thanks and blessings!

Lots of good advice in this video, Tessie. Hope no one has to go through what you went through, but glad you succeeded! And sounds like your whole family is actually enjoying the frugal way of making things. I know I have enjoyed reusing old wax from candles to make new candles or tarts and using a dehydrator and making soaps, and other lessons you've taught. Great lessons no matter what your income.

I agree with everything you're saying Tessie. I started out as a young married woman in 1960, very, very limited income. Over the years, and moving on from a bipolar alcoholic husband who left me with four babies under 6 years old, it was difficult. There were times when we made decent money (2nd husband) . At one time we had a 3300 square foot five bedroom four bathroom house. I about killed myself trying to keep it clean. Now I'm an 81-year-old widow living in a house under 900 square feet. Less is better. If you are trying to accumulate material goods to fill a hole in your soul, it will never get filled. I live on less than $1,200 a month and still manage to save something, enough to pay cash for a car when my old one died. It feels really good.

You are speaking my language! I LOVE not paying that huge mortgage we used to have! Like you we downsized to a small home that is paid for, we sold our large home and everything that was in it. I donated a LOT to thrift stores. We are dept free and it is a high for us. In fact, we try to out do each other on who can be the best cheapskate and find the best bargains when we buy something. I do most of my shopping at thrift stores! I love our worry free life and the low maintenance of a smaller home.

Bare bones, paring down, walking the steps. That means cooperation with all family members. Not only pinches but at times feels like someone pulled a tooth and no painkiller. And yes tears, depression happens. Doing what you have to do. Add in trade offs? You have a bigger Christmas tree, trade off with a friend or family member who needs a larger tree and you want smaller? Trade offs make easy simple decorations with what you have or trade off with someone you know and trade for supplies or materials to make something you love. Pick up leaves Google how to press or keep there colors, pine cones too. Pick up a book from library on how to make other things be too. Stop listening to commercials who want your money, buy, buy, buy? Scrap lumber or wood scraps ask if there getting rid of any or give away a piece or two. Trees removed, sometimes they'll give you some stumps, etc most don't want pine too soft to burn, ends up shredded. Especially holidays decorations. Buying lawn decorations that cost you more, plus electric, etc. Time to change those ideas. Your right a lot of people are strapped for cash, everyone can make changes.

I last my husband in December of 2020 to a heart attack. I have lost his 6 figure income and now am down to less than 600 dollars per month. I am learning how to can and how to make soap and learning everything I possibly can learn. Next year I will be putting in a garden and praying that God blessing it. I have thought about going dumpster diving for stuff but I will need to take my daughter with me because I am physically disabled and have major problems walking. I am still willing to try and it looks like such fun online. There is a huge high from creating stuff. My daughter just got married and I was able to make the cake she wanted and the flowers she wanted for her wedding for so much less it was pennies compared to the cost of having them made! I have so enjoyed learning different things. Ps I found the strainer/sauce maker like yours at a auction for 5 dollars! I was so proud to get it! Thanks to you I knew what it was and how to use it!

We did pretty much similar. I pulled my credit report and paid the smallest ones first, crossing them off one by one. Then the bigger ones took about 6 months. Never going back again! I have 1 credit card that I pay off every month with a small balance. No more car payments here, we pay cash for a used car now.

My husband and I were in debt once. I never even told my husband how bad. Since he worked so hard every day I COULD NOT tell him no. He grew up poor and I wanted him to have everything he desired. BIG mistake. We finally got everything paid off pretty much the same way you did paying the smallest up to the largest. We don’t owe much on our mobile home now. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. My husband still insists on spending $80 a month on smokeless tobacco. I really wish he would kick the habit. Thanks to you Tessie I can see other places I can make up that $80 hopefully!

Great advice Tessie sis!!! 🌞 A lot of people are struggling, now days. It's definitely a disgrace in this country that regular Unemployment benefits, Disability, and Social Security benefits are so low. You receive half, if that, of your regular pay! Medicare doesn't pay for Rx or excess medical bills. I have to pay for these insurances out of pocket. The government takes $148 a month out of my benefits for Medicare. Sad Stare of affairs in our country. 😪🤬😪

@@debbieframpton3857 There is a vast difference in the amount of money people receive each month. Not everyone receives the same. It depends on the wages you earned in your lifetime and if you had a spouse for more than 10 years, etc. I am a Navy veteran. I worked all of my adult life until I was forced to retire due to disability. The money I receive is from the lowest income bracket. I also have to pay for supplemental health insurance to pay what Medicare does not pay for. Between prescriptions and other necessities it doesn't leave me very much. I don't have a paid-for home and I am living with my 89 year-old mother who I care for. I am glad that you are doing well. Please remember that we are not all the same.

I feel it's a crying shame that our government is willing to take tax money the people have worked all their lives to put in and give it to people who are not even legal citizens above the legal citizens. There is far more concerned with the illegal people squatting in our country than there was for the senior citizens in this bill that was passed
