I made a discovery recently on my reverb bus Joe!! I follow your mantra of a high pass EQ to cut out the mud of course but then I experimented with the low pass as well! My reverb is smoother now! It is less harsh in the highs! I'm digging it!
@DerekPowerАй бұрын
It’s most likely a version of what can be called the “Abbey Road reverb trick” where you do a low-cut/high-pass at about 600Hz and a high-cut/low-pass at about 1kHz. This way the “good bits” of a signal get the reverb whereas the other ones don’t as they can create their own issues (mud on the low side and harshness on the high side, as you rightly observed). Cheers =]

Mr.Gilder, I truly enjoy at of your information, but one thing ( might just be my mood today ), but I wonder if you would consider using some type of mouse pointer that was either larger or some bright color, I kinda feel like a cat chasing a Lazer light.

Muse! They are definitely one of the first bands I think of when I think of distorted vocals. The second one would probably be The Strokes. Great Matt Bellamy impression, btw.

What’s the best reverb settings in your monitor for singing quality? I found I sing way better with reverb in my monitor rather than without, while recording the dry vocals directly, of course. I think it’s the same reason people like singing in the shower. It has a good small room reverb, and the water's white noise also helps overcoming the lack of vocal loudness. With reverb you can hear your self well, and also sing in unison and/or harmony with your owns voice from a few milliseconds ago. …and it sound it sound better for yourself. The shower’s white noise isn’t that much of a big deal while singing with music, but it could help the timid put on he spot singing cappella.

How often do you combine a reverb with the delay?
@HomeStudioCornerАй бұрын
Occasionally. That was actually a bonus #5 tip for this video, but I cut it out...went too long 😂 1/4-note delay INTO a reverb can be lovely.

What vocal effects is the Ratt singer, Stephen Pearcy, using? It's difficult to understand what he's using.

Specifically the song Round And Round. Sounds like his main vocal has alot going on..harmonies etc.

Do you use slap delays on Choruses if yes what do you do to make the chorus section slap delay different from a hook and verse area
@HomeStudioCornerАй бұрын
Yes I use it on choruses. No I don’t change it
@chango276Ай бұрын
You appear to have put your EQ after the reverb in your chain is that right? Because I’ve also seen it before the reverb? I’m confused help !
@HomeStudioCornerАй бұрын
Yep. I want to EQ the reverb. Reverbs can produce a lot of low end, even if you EQ the sound before. Big picture though I don’t think it matters too much. But I’d rather be 100% sure the reverb doesn’t add any muddy-ness. To be 100% sure, I EQ the reverb.

Hi pass in the lows and EQ dip in the low mids. If that doesn't solve it, you could also try multiband compression with a band specifically on the lows and low mids. I would focus on 250 Hz and lower.
