I went to Montauk one time. Back in 2012, weeks before Hurricane Sandy, there were 3 storms in the Atlantic. I was sitting in front of my computer at midnight looking at wave predictions and wind directions. By 2 am I made the decision. I'm going to Montauk. It was a 6 hour drive, and I saw the sun coming up behind the light house. Absolutely beautiful. I walked down to the rocks and watched 2 women ride monster waves on the point. I waited an hour for the wind to come around a little more west, and then I made my way out there. I caught a few bombs, the biggest east coast waves I ever surfed. Thank you, Montauk. Please don't change.

Great video. Back in the 1970's and 80's this was our surf spot. My friends were lifeguards from Jones Beach and Robert Moses State Park and others like myself. Sleeping in our cars or tents at Ditch Plains and cheapest accommodations we could find. Surf was kick ass. This helped start me on an incredible life journey centered around surfing. Now I'm 75 years old, retired and living Beachfront in Puerto Rico with possibly the best right-hander on the island outside my backdoor, and oh yeah I still feel the stoke.

I went out there to catch hurricane surf several years ago. Cool place. Very low key vibe. I slept in my jeep for a few nights and saw the most amazing night skies. The people may not be impressed by money but you certainly need a lot of it to live there.

Montauk would be the only place I would consider moving if I had to go back to the east coast. Seems like great people and some great surfing!

I’ve lived there year round. Beautiful place. In the 80’s, New York Times came out and did an article on the surfers of Ditch Plains, that was the beginning of the end for what was a “Drinking town with a fishing problem”. After that, the ‘hipsters’ slowly increased, the posers and wannabe’s ambled in…the slow death of what was a chill beach town became a M.Night Shyamalan horror movie that has no ending. Only a very few now understand the meaning of the bumper sticker ‘ Is my board done yet?’ R.I.P. Montauk

Montauk It's a place for rich people! Made so that poor people can't get close. Just look for a daily rate in the simplest place and you'll see how absurdly expensive this place is. It's a village for rich and very fortunate people.

Good video but everyone interviewed was white. If you include Montauk residents/full-time workers who are undocumented immigrants, it's got a lot of people of color. It is one of the most unequal places on earth -- the gap between rich and poor is probably the biggest in the world. Montauk is a village in the town of East Hampton, NY. So is Sag Harbor, where I lived from age 0 -- 16 and 24 -- 25.

It is a video about the surfers of Montauk... so unless the undocumented immigrants are surfers.. im not sure they would fit the bill for a surf doc interview...

@@KeeganSchultz-l1k You didn't understand the comment above. What he meant was that the short film doesn't match the reality of the place.

Thanks for the woke take. Move to N Korea or Cuba if you want to feel equal to everyone else. Let me know how that works out for you…
