Was just wondering if there's a chance at all that the young man knew what the princess' choice would be, regardless of if it was the tiger or the lady. The text says he knew her well enough to know she would break the game and take the decision for herself, but can we assume he knew her enough to know which decision would she take?

Thank you so much for the Summary of this nice story.I think the princess showed him the door behind which there is a tiger,because she is a princess and from her childhood she can own whatever she loves.The only thing that she cannot is this beloved man. So,in this case,she would not permit the lady to own her man. The idea of having her man die as a victim of true love is better than sacrificing her love to another woman. Women are jealous and selfish. It is easy for her to forget him rather to see him marry the lady.

She made her decision without hesitancy after pondering it for days. Maybe during those days, she planned to commit suicide after directing him to the tiger so they could be together in the afterlife. You made a Romeo and Juliet reference, and in the play, Juliet commits suicide after finding Romeo to be dead.

I wonder if the king deliberately chose the lady who was attracted to the princess's lover ...Coz he might have anticipated that his daughter will definitely try to find the secret of the doors and the identity of the lady. So by choosing that specific lady the king is ensuring that the princess should not have any iota of doubt even if she decides to help her lover.... I am pretty sure that the princess must have led her lover to the tigers door considering the enduring character sketch of the princess which the author has given.

Your theory would also increase the idea that this "judgement" is, in reality, a punishment that the King is bestowing towards his daughter. He would've not only be choosing one of the fairest ladies in the kingdom, but also someone his daughter personally hates. It also relates to the analisys where the princess is more of a object to him than an actual person.

I think she would have given the signal to the tiger's door because she can't even think of her lover being married to this lady... Even thinking about them being together is so horrible for the Princess..

The Tiger. The princess is like her father. She will chose selfishly. Most times in these stories they don't usually do the right thing. It would be nice.

By chosing the lady there is a chance the lady dies young and there are all kinds of ways some one can die. Don't be so narrow minded if it were the lady those 2 live a long life together. No mention of kings son. Princess has a chance of running the nation and chosing whom she marries. Slight chance but hey the story is all about chance.

Tiger: She is her father’s daughter. Even if hidden, the insane chromosome is in her. I’m she picked the lady, she’d never have happiness. She would be tormented. Picking the tiger would please her father. The sorrow caused by the death would haunt the lady… bring slight happiness to the daughter. The tiger pick awakens the insanity that was dormant in the daughter.
