@@alisonmccain Yea.. I bet you don't see a problem with that. If we're needed something that causes us extreme stress due to a deadline to "learn" stuff, then I don't think there's a nice future for schools. The truth is that homework is just a way for teachers to not do their work and lend you their problems, what one should really do is make their class the most enjoyable as possible, as even simply listening with interest will make you remember stuff. Hell, in that case, you'd probably wouldn't even be able to get it out of your head, unlike homework and exams that you're always craving to stop making yourself stuff that was made boring due to incompetent teachers.

It actually makes perfect sense giving homework as a punishment for misbehaving. If you don't do your work at work, you either get fired or you end up doing it at home to make up for not doing it at work. Perfect correspondence.

@@isaiahjohnson7427 I get that. However, those who are interested will work diligently in class anyway and therefore won't have the punishment of homework and even if they do, they won't view it as a punishment since they enjoy it. For those that already don't enjoy it, it will feel as a punishment to them no matter how or when they do it. And likewise those who have jobs they enjoy will be seen undergoing great difficulty and strain for their passion and those whose jobs are mostly boring or uninteresting will view their work as one long set of punishments anyway.

That, and/or it's just practice that has no grade to it besides a few completion points. I've had Math teachers make homework Participation points (Like only 1% to 5% of total grade in the end so it's not really much) so even if you got it wrong, as long as you tried you got a 100% on it, and would start the class going over the homework to see if we understand the work or not. And not doing it didn't hurt you, it was just a "Oh okay" and move on from it. Definitely some the best teachers I learned from

The school system (dependant on where you are in the world) was set up to make you ready for factory/office work. Being up early, telling you when you can eat, making sure you knew your place. It's insane. Now with how some bosses expect you to answer emails even at home, it's like this mentality. They want you to pick up that work so you won't think twice about answering your boss's demands at home.

It starts with learning important basics like math and your native language or another important language in ur country Those r useful But eventually you learned so much stuff you didn’t need like I just had science class and I don’t wanna work in science so why r we getting so detailed over atoms and stuff We should be able to choose our classes for the year more earlier And those classes that won’t necessarily help us in our future shouldn’t impact our grade much We can just learn the basics than choose stuff that’s actually useful

@Fanatic Anti-Materialist Once you get into the higher grades homework becomes bigger and free time becomes smaller, my mother told me to do an extra class to get highschool credit, I told her I didn’t want to do it and she made me do it anyways at this point I have 13 classes now I have to keep up with. It’s terrible and I only get a few hours of free time because right as I get home I have to do homework, I wake up at 5:30 and come home at 3:30 at this point it makes me tired and brings down my grade rather than up. Needless to say I’m only in 8th grade right now and I’m struggling my friends are wondering where I am and it’s getting annoying that I never have time with them either

School is honestly more about grades than actually learning. I had no life outside of school and it really affected me mentally and made me contemplate things like suicide at just 14. I go to a very competitive school district but I feel like they go too far sometimes.

look, teachers should really just give students practice questions with no deadline, but encourage te students to do it. So, if you wanna do it, do it, and ask the teacher to correct it. You don't wanna do it, then don't. If it must, it'll backfire later, perhaps for some exam or something. Experience is the best teacher, after all. If, due to not doing the "homework" you got low grades in an exam, then it's soley your fault, and you'll most likely learn your mistake. it also puts way less pressure on students.

Here's my take, one day if you want to go to university, you will be competing against international students, who are doing more homework than us. I don't think the western students of the world should have so much homework they have no lives, such as the lifestyle my Chinese neighbor described he had in his childhood, BUT we should still be pushing today's youth. We are not going to be on top of stem if our students are not prepared for hard work and discipline.

I've always had trouble with doing homework when not physically at school. My dad described the mental change from work to relaxing at home as being separate domains. Basically physically at work hes able to focus on just work, but he can't do that at home. I'm almost the extreme version of this. I work great when physically at the school (even if class is over and I'm just in the school library), but at home its impossible for me to focus at all no matter how hard I try, or how much I genuinely want to do the work. Its why I've had to take a temporary leave of absence from my college when everything went to online cuss of covid. When it first hit and online became a thing I failed my class for the first time in all the two years i was there, and i knew it wasn't just a matter of getting used to it. I have family that doesn't understand that at all and just say i didn't try hard enough, but I did try. I tried until I was in tears and stressed out of my mind because I kept failing the assignments and myself. My brain just isn't wired like that and never has been, its why I didn't even do most of my homework in HS, its because I couldn't. To me homework has always been nothing but pure punishment. I want to go back in time to stop its inventor.

I disagree. We can change the world if we believe that we can. There's a lot of us who survived hell in school, if everyone of us do a little bit for the future, it'll be better. I went to a small catolic school in my hometown where the headmaster was very pasionate of good education - he dreamed of something like "summerhill" (check this serie out on yt, is about the British school which is based on the rules created by students, without exams and notes etc) but he couldn't do such revolution because of the system of education in our country (he wanted us, students, to choose only subjects we needed for our dream job but the sistem requaired 7h per Day studying so anyway we were overwhelmed) but did small changes seeking for small holes in this sistem (introduced tutoring f. e.) But the country didnt support him so he couldn't afford for example pay for profesional training for his teachers (but tried so) Anyway I went through hard time in school, mostly because of abusers and the number of subjects. The headmaster was my tutor and did great job being my tutor, I had nobody at that time and had terrible home life but he was always there to listen to me, to help. Thanks to him I think that I can also change something... Maybe I can't change the whole world but I can change someone's world :) Nature and art are good! First care about yourself, heal your body and mind then you'll get strenght to beat this world! A lot of love for ya, be proud that you survived until toda, you did a great job! 😊

And in my country, schools starts at 6:30am or 7am, and ends around 4:30pm or 5:00pm, sometime 6pm of you have extra curricular activities like if your an athlete or a dancer or academic representative.

I don't get how ppl are stressed out and can't handle it. All u have to do is pay attention. Then when u get home, u immediately get to the homework and do the chores u have. That's what i do all the time but ppl say it's stressful and i don't see how.

@@prexy_Pasta i mean, you don't only have one assignment, each subjects give assignment, sometimes the assignment can be two-three things in one subject and one includes building stuffs like in Science, building solar system, so what if you don't have the materials for it, will you be able to do it in one sitting? In college it involved research, and you don't just research, you have to have multiple related studies and construct a conclusion based on those studies, you can't just copy paste it coz it's plagiarism. Some needs interviews like literally you need to talk to people who had experienced with certain topic you have, in order to get the most unbiased response, you can do that using internet but it's tedious and you can't just do that in one day or one sitting.

There was a stretch in senior year- I literally had zero free time. Between working a part time job, several ap classes (my biggest regret- taking ap lit in order to skip college course on english, Always had pointless reading + homework there/ didnt even pass that ap exam 😂), playing tennis in spring. Idk how I did it especially given I was fairly depressed deep inside (but I knew how to push it down/ aside on the tennis court) but I was in phenomenal shape/ not too messed up emotionally yet lol. But especially for middle school and elementary, felt like torture, and long since having grown up-- I know it clearly is 😂

Do you do extracurriculars like sports? Because if not then you only have yourself to blame, when you get back home at 3 it should last until 5pm max if you’re teachers really decided to unload a ton of work on you. If you’re really focused homework should only take like an hour to an hour and a half after school. At that point you have like 5 whole hours to yourself and since school starts at around 8 for most people. You also get more then enough time for sleep. It’s just an issue you have with time management, I do track and band and I enter school at 7:00 am and leave school at 5:30 pm and homework for me only lasts until 7 which gives me a good amount of time for myself and enough time for adequate sleep. People who complain about little sleep from school just have shitty time management or just procrastinate a ton on their work. Both of which, are your own fault.
